"For the love of money is the root of all evil"
1 Timothy 6:10
Talking about money:
The infatuation and argumentation with money on here is really crazy sometimes. Like the more money you have the better you are in all regards. I just don't get it. I know we are living in the craziest capitalist times but I still believe money does not make you a better person than anyone else or should give you more rights [i know that is wishful thinking]. Sadly that is really used quite a lot here as an argument. "[...] makes more money than you so just shut up" or "the cheque still cashed" or "why would XX care he is making bank". Quite pathetic and very one dimensional.
Anyway rant over.
From what I know about Japanese culture, the respect part is most important.
I lived in Japan for 3 months while doing online college courses in 2018. Every single person was very nice and respectful. Cities and streets were spotless. I've never felt so welcomed somewhere. They really changed after WW2. Lovely people.

His dad raised in fine young man. I met Jo briefly and he was respectful and well-mannered, even humble.
Met Haiden once, too. Not so much.
Too often -
In America, you get the justice you can afford...
not the justice you deserve.

Japan was like this before WW2 as well. Cutting off their oil supply is what radicalized them. Fell in love with Japan when I visited, and am already planning to go back. Everyone I met was very respectful of the people around them. Even a lot of their rebellious subcultures are like this. If you bump into someone in Toyko, and they realize you're American, they'll even apologize in English.
Agreed to all previous comments, but is Jo's mother not in the picture? I thought both of his parents were there last night and have been a major part of his development as a young man.
I am so happy for Jo, his family and team, etc.
I'd like to see him gather a few more championships in '26.
Jo is very Japanese but has a little American flavor sprinkled in now. Yes, I do think his parents did a great job with him, but a lot of the things he’s being praised for here are a result of the culture he was brought up in.
Japan is an awesome country with tons of really great people and a very cool culture. Probably the only country outside of the US that I would really feel good about living in.
Yeah, ride a subway in Tokyo. You'll never see such a choreographed crowd movement anywhere else in the world, and it's all voluntary.
I’m an artist by trade and the Japanese ability to prioritize a craft and the sum over an individual effort is one of the coolest things happening in any society right now. Stoicism is interesting as an American from the outside but wow have they built something special as a culture.
Jo being able to easily understand Deegans position, even though it put him in danger directly, was so wild to witness. If Jo were irate any of us would’ve thought that was warranted but he played it cool like he always does and kept his head down focused on winning. Outstanding human
Well said. We could all learn something here.
Time in memorial mayn.
Jo is a truly a class act.
I wrote the post thinking about if he were my son how proud I would be.
Good job mom too!
Got it!
Pit Row
Fixed it. Thanks.
I like that Jo has finally said "I keep it simple" with a little grin. I practice to go faster, I have a plan, I race then go home to enjoy coffee. As a Japanese, he's being asked to express thoughts that may seem pointless or something like that.
Side note, Jo better hide his sister. I saw a young couple checking her out at the same time. The dude can't be busted side eying if his woman is busy doing it to. LOL
“To Jo Shimoda’s Mum and Dad”
One thing I see with Jo, I also see in Shohei Ohtani. They seem like kids playing their sport and having fun. They also seem very respectful which I think says lots about the Japanese culture.
Great night for Jo and his family.
She was there.
Jo, class act!
Deegan can learn a lot from Jo.
His dad and mom did a fantastic job! Also, Japanese culture is very proper and that’s a piece, too. Great job!
Jo will be a national treasure in Japan by the end of his career, especially with Honda.
This is why I think Honda should go all in with Jo. Would it matter if he was continually the 3rd highest Honda finisher? Assuming Jett & Hunter stick around for a few years yet
I’ve yet to see any mention of the impact of 38’s decision on the rest of the team. Mechanics, drivers, administration, etc., etc. Not only did he make a buffoon of himself, he also took a hot slippery steamer all over his team.
WW2 didn’t create Japanese culture. Good people can live under an imperialist regime.
