If you are referring to Coombs, he doesn't come around any longer because he got absolutely shit on by the vital mob during the TV fiasco for the nationals. Even though he apologized, I'm sure many here still haven't forgiven him.  Must be hard being perfect behind those keyboards.

He used to come here and was quite nice to everyone.  Same with Matthes. This place ain't worth their time.

My point was that the end result may have made him look worse, but that wasn't the goal of the spot, Steve is friends with the guy. He didn't have him on on to make him look bad. It was a spot to give a cheater a chance to explain himself. This is an AMA track owner who cheated. This isn't some random parent. This guy should have his AMA promoter license suspended for a year or two and not given a chance to defend himself. Did Steve have any of the other parents from the podium on to get their thoughts? No just the guy who cheated.

You guys can gargle the pulp balls all you want. I've said it over and over, I like Steve and I like his content. I just don't like having a guy that's a known cheater on to defend himself.

Part of being a media organization is allowing people the opportunity to tell their side. How many lawyers do you see getting interviewed and advocating on behalf of their defendants - happens all the time. He also afforded the same opportunity to Myrtle. That being said (and I say this as a professional who works in a PR related field), Eddie completely flubbed that opportunity. All he actually had to do was apologize, say he won’t do it again and actually stick by it moving forward. If he didn’t want to do that, he should have just declined and this thread would be three pages shorter. The first rule when you’re in a hole - stop digging! But I can’t really blame that on the platform.

TLD project today - the first thing is DB saying "kudos to Eddie for going on the show" and they laugh about how they didn't think the kid was going to win, that he feels bad for the entire story, the kid is actually going to be a car racer not a dirt bike rider" (as if that matters...)

This is my point about them trying to give the platform for him to somehow make this situation better even though it made it worse.

I'm usually all cool with our moto media. But god this week is amateur hour.

The rules are pretty clear on getting caught cheating on the bike.  First offense is a DQ.  Second offense is 1 year suspension.  Before I was in this position I was an AMA Congressperson.  I introduced proposals on several occasions (6-10 years ago) to make it a 1 year suspension on first offense.  It never got enough votes to be passed out of the Motocross Committee.  We have our annual meeting of the Motocross Commission in October.  It is on the agenda to discuss stiffening the penalties for cheating.

Also, just about every person we have caught cheating justified it by saying everyone else does.  One would have to be naive to think there is no cheating going on, but I can say this for certain.  The kid who ended up winning the Shaft class at Loretta's was on a legal bike!  Tim McAdams and Tad Dewalt tore that thing down to the frame.  It was the most exhaustive PW50 tear down I have ever seen and every part was fine.

At the end of the day the process worked.  The kid who was illegal was DQed, and the kid who won passed the most thorough PW50 teardown I have ever seen, validating his win.

I have been officiating races for 25 years and now 6 years at the AMA.   After doing hundreds of teardowns, I would say 8 out of 10 bikes protested are found to be legal.

Available any time for questions, here or via e-mail.  Any press who want to discuss, email me your number and I will call you.

This is a reasonable and respectable reply but if its true then how does a "stock" pw that makes barely pushing 2 hp holeshot a proven cheater bike with a 60 kit that pushes nearly 6 hp?  and screw the holeshot even, how would that bike even compete around a track multiple laps?  the reality is the system is flawed and the proof is in front of all of your faces live on youtube, the inspections aren't catching everything.  like ive mentioned previously, ive watched inspections glaze over parts on various occasions.  you dont know what to look for unless you are one of the top 5 pw builders.

There was a recent video going around on Instagram where a parent bragged about the dumbasses who protested their kid and how they won the protest/inspection.  Posted a video of the opened up bike being inspected to brag and had to delete it because everyone started calling them out for the aftermarket flywheel. You can tear down a bike all you want.  These are HIGHLY modded scooter engines.  Get a competing team engine builder in there under the inspection tent to watch the official and see what is actually found.  Hell they probably wont say anything because their bikes have it too.

The party who protests has the right to witness the teardown or have his representative witness it.  The protesting party chose the builder of more than 50% of the bikes on the gate to be his representative.  As to how a legal bike holeshotted a 60 kit bike, the kid on the legal bike was 41 pounds, the kid on the 60 kit bike was around 70 pounds.

In some teardowns the protesting party does not protest the right things.  In the one at Lorettas they protested everything.  I am very confident nothing of any consequence got by Toolie Joseph and Tad

whats your best deegan story?

You guys are not going to like this one but when the bike was claimed at Lorettas, of course Star was not happy about it but 100% complied with what we asked for.  Everyone had all of these stories of Brian yelling at the kid in a room with Cotter, that never happened.  I was there for the 2 minutes Brian was in the room with the kid.  Brian asked him why he was doing it and the kid replied he wanted to make a Youtube video.  Brian asked the kid if he was sure he wanted to do it and the kid said yes.  Thats not the good part.

Brian and I walked out of the trailer and he said to he, "I dont give a shit about the bike, they will just send us another one.  The claim was in B class but Haiden was 1-1 in Schoolboy 2 with one moto to go on that same bike.  Brian said, if it makes it easier on you guys we will pull out of Schoolboy 2, the title is not that important, we have bigger fish to fry.  I said no way, we will impound the bike and let Toolie (former factory Suzuki mechanic) supervise preping it for SB2 and give it to the kid after the moto.

I have never had a single issue with Brian though I heard he was a handfull at the teardown in the 50 days.

Like i said these builders are friends so im not even sure they would call each other out.  I would hope so but who knows as its never happened.  Ive been on a 3 way call with 2 known builders before who were sharing bike ideas since they were both doing mods to the same bike i owned.  discussing how an official would never see this and that because they have no idea.

You say hypothetical but one bike is supposedly stock. 2 hp and the other has been proven to have a big bore.  6hp if that was the only cheat he had (which im sure it wasnt so maybe even pushing 7hp - over 3x total speed increase).   There is a video of a pw moto this year where the supposedly stock 2 hp bike gets about a 10 bike length jump on 2nd place.  and 41 other bikes to boot.  That sounds like a real world scenario that should be explained.

im not saying the inspection system is wrong for any class outside of shaft drive.  the pw class is out of your realm and should be fixed with a better solution.

A fully built within the Limited class rules PW50 motor is about 2.7 hp.  A fully built 60 kit mod motor is just shy of 5hp.  For you to say that a built PW50 motor is pushing 7 horsepower is not even close to being accurate.  You don't more than double the horsepower of a motor by adding 20% displacement.  And what the heck is 3X speed increase. It is a single speed powertrain.  To get a 3X speed increase you would need to increase RPMs by a factor of 3.  Even more so on the illegal 60 kit bike because it had a QT gear which produces about 20% LESS top speed.

It's kinda ironic what's perceived as cheating/unfair - in what world does a 70 pound rider have any chance against a 40 pound rider on such a low power bike?

If this class is seen as important enough to cheat for, maybe some kind of ballast is needed to make it fairer? Or was the 70 pounder sandbagging?

If a manufacturer makes a model of a motorcycle they must submit the specs to the AMA, have 10 identical models for inspection upon request, and have an additional 65 models in the country by April 15th of the current model year.  The intent is to not allow custom made 1-offs.  75 units required prevents 1 offs.  Limited class rules are intended to give people a place to race where the amount of money spent on the bike for mods is eliminated.  I would say the FE models which are homologated skirt close to violating the Limited class rules but stay just on the side of legal.  One way to look at it is if KTM only made the FE model, would it be legal, and the answer is yes.

There are 2 other classes available at Lorettas for the 70 pound kid that age to ride.  No one forces a kid to choose the class with less than 3 hp motors.

I have dynoed a bike pushing almost 7 (6.8).  So you are wrong.  Wicked motorsports dynoed a modded bike without a 60 kit at 5.7hp.  So saying 6-7 with a 60 kit is impossible is just flat out wrong and honestly shows how little officials know here.  you can find it on their IG yourself

2.7hp (which is certainly a huge reach for a legal stocker build but sure we'll take it) x2 = 5.4.  Which is almost double the horsepower of the 5hp number you are stating.

many bikes go to LL and have been caught with a QT gear.  That is a totally different mod so not sure how that applies to this scenario but yes they happen all the time too.

When I said 3× speed increase, I meant the real effect on track, not just hp but the torque jump too. Stock is ~2 hp, a built 60 kit is 6+ with way more torque like it’s 3× faster.

Again, no one explaining how a stock bike with half the horsepower gaps a mod down a straight and the rest of the track. Just conveniently glossing over this.  Maybe the 5yr old watching Jett  and taking notes, no clutch, no holeshot device, no gears.  im sure all the other 41 fastest riders in the nation just chopping the throttle too much.

Bigger picture….as a parent, I’d be a little concerned if my kid was one of the youngest in the class and 30lbs heavier than other competitors.

Dude has wanted to be a somebody in the sport for over a decade now and he’s trying to say he’s not a crazy 50 dad after cheating his kid’s way into LL at the first instance possible. Grinning

Ok we get it, you’re crazy about PWs. You said your peace now leave Mr Burkeen alone

Pulp giving this guy a platform is pretty weak. I am not even going to listen to this week's show. Loser shit.

Nah, I can just skip a week because the content is lame. Pretty simple.

Hi Eddie!

Why would Eddie ask if his own kid was sandbagging? Or do you have trouble reading?

I just didn’t think it was possible for two people to be so dumb that they thought a child’s weight justified cheating

It’s cool you “called in” to Vital and made yourself available.

I’d say correcting a post about AMA revenue streams, while skipping over the post about a cheating AMA promoter holding a race soon, gives off a vibe that is creeping into the ballpark of the vibe Eddie gave after calling in to Pulp.

Accountability, or lack thereof, starts at the top (or at the core from a feminine perspective).

I’m in love with this current timeline we are on where all the bs lurking in the shadows, in the moto industry and beyond, is coming to light.

Here is the rule in the 2025 ama rulebook.  Bottom of page 21:

Violations of the limited class rules as determined by the protest process or by the referee of the event will result in disqualification from the event. A second violation of the limited class rules will result in a disqualification from the event and a suspension from AMA competition for one year (12 months from the beginning of the suspension). Changes that are cosmetic in nature are allowed so long as there is no performance advantage.

There is not a different set of rules for promoters.  We followed it exactly as written.

As far as the comment that this is why DC doesnt come here anymore, sometimes I think, "why bother".  The question itself is a fair one, the personal attack saying I am the same as a father who cheated and spent 30 minutes trying to justify it is what makes it hard for me to justify the time.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify. Rules are rules. Sounds like an opportunity for improvement. The first part would have been a great response to the original post about Eddie hosting a race.

“Gives off a vibe that is creeping into the ballpark…” is much much different, to me, than “personal attack saying I am the same…”. I can only share my experience. How you interpret that is up to you. I wouldn’t bother either if that’s the reality I lived in.

Accountability?

I figured he was boycotting due to EKS brand ads.

Anyways, ✌️

Your post stated:

You say hypothetical but one bike is supposedly stock. 2 hp and the other has been proven to have a big bore.  6hp if that was the only cheat he had (which im sure it wasnt so maybe even pushing 7hp - over 3x total speed increase).
