It is obvious to see how much impact Jett has had on racing already. Look no further than the Ranch this week and already you can see numerous racers varying in age, slowing down a little and hoping over the breaking bumps. Times are a changing, just like James before Jett. The sport continues to evolve, and I am interested to see where it leads from technique, to how racers dissect the track
*Braking bumps.
(Sorry, had to do it! 😁)
Why do so many guys act like this is a new thing? This is something my dad has taught, shown and worked with me on since I got on 60’s in the late 90’s.
That’s not to take away from Jett at all, this is just nothing new.
I noticed the same thing yesterday. Even if it's not always efficient for everybody.
You must be a fairly young guy? I've been involved with MX since the late 70s, and guys, locals and pro's, have been doing this (some better than others) since I've been around. Interesting that you mention James (Stewart) as he was probably one of the best at it!

Good correction but are they "hoping" over those braking bumps or "hopping" over those breaking bumps??? Sorry, I had to
Lot of feet on the pegs going through corners too.
I also notice that a lot of riders can't thank Jesus. 😃
I’m in my 20s and know this has been around long before Jett was even born. Tomac used to do a lot of the same hopping and skipping on the Geico Honda before he obliterated his shoulders. That famous clip of him hopping uphill into a rutted corner at Glen Helen makes me want to smoke a cigarette every time I watch it
braking bumps are the only fucking thing i jump these days
Musquin was pretty good at this as well...
My favorite trend is the little 50 and 65 kids getting hyped up on the line doing the same stuff as Sexton and the other pros hyping themselves up, its awesome haha.
Bailey and JMB did it before it was cool.
Jett actually invented Motocross
A lot of that depends on track development, I use to practice right after the pro's at the local nationals, High Point, Steel City, Kenworthy's , Budds Creek. Let me tell you the braking bumps on Friday was huge, on amature day with over 1800 riders doing 2 3 classes each, was not even half that of Friday practice. But as others have said been going on for ever even in little guys.
I’ve also noticed a trend of guys going fast through the corners this year.
//end thread//
Gary Bailey was teaching this at his school in the 80's FWIW. I'm sure he wasn't the first.
Thank you! Fkn A.. I've been saying that since JT was on his knees for Jett 2 years ago...
I remember when braking bumps were where people braked
Pit Row
Going to be honest here, I can't believe I did that haha. For the other responses, it isn't that it is a "new" thing by any means. It is more just about the observation of how amateurs adjust accordingly.
Yeah, I missed that one. Good eye! I guess one could hope to miss the braking bumps, or really try and actually hop.
(Sorry OP! Had to.)
This is a copycat sport...When RC was a bulldog and muscled the bike through bumps and was winning, everyone tried to be a bulldog...when James came around and was floating over everything, and scrubbing...everyone started trying to float over everything and scrub...When RV was steering with the rear tire all the time, sitting a lot...everyone tried to steer with the rear tire and sat a lot...now we've got Jett winning, and standing up through corners, low revs, bouncing around the track...and now everyone is trying to do that to go fast now.
Nothing new...
And when the "next guy" comes a long and starts winning doing something entirely different, you'll see riders across the world trying to emulate that riding style...
Pourcel comes to mind
Marty Tripes was doing all of this in the early 70's. Everything old is new again.😂
Can’t? I’m confused
The latest advanced technique is to bunny hop the braking bumps in a higher gear . Clutch & blip the throttle. And land in the turn ruts. I practiced that once in a while for yrs. If there real nasty ones . Why hit any of them ?
Are they all standing up most of the time too?
You have to have noticed how riders will say " I can't thank so and so enough " BUT they forget to say enough and end up saying that they can't thank them instead of thanking them.
I think RV started doing it , and others jumped onto saying it that way and not maybe realizing that RV was not using the phrase correctly.
Are you being sarcastic and I'm just missing it? If so , Oh well.
A few people have never seen JMB, Marv or Ken ride before. Jett has changed a few things, especially unlocking the hips and riding light on the bike. The announcers talked about the crafty Frenchman and how he hopped around the track years ago.
Both were smoove with a "v."
I mean, who doesn’t love a smooth “V”?
