So let’s start a BS rumor and see if it gets picked up.

I heard Hunter was going to Ducati for $13m a year, 4 years!

Something like that ^^

I’d actually be surprised if he did. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” definitely apply’s here. Honda know’s they have the Golden Goose. The one two punch these brothers deliver is a beautiful thing.

When has Honda kept two highly paid top riders? I heard on a pod somewhere they were speculating if he stays or not. If Jett got the money I’ve heard being thrown around (15M) it’s hard to see Honda paying Hunter something in the same ball park. I’m sure he wants to stay and I’m sure Honda would love to keep him but if another team offers him 10M, does he stay with Honda?

Or are these spread out over 3-5 years?

I was saying I can’t see Honda being able to pay Hunter to stay after paying Jett. Hunter is arguably one of the best right now and can command a decent salary. Hypothetically would he stay if he got a decent offer somewhere else.

As for Jett, I’ve heard 15M over 5 years.

I know I've heard the boys get a decent win bonus.  Something like $100k for 450 and half that for the quarter liters.  That's a really nice cherry on top for someone winning almost every race.

Seems hard to believe there's that much money in our little sport.  I remember Roger telling me he was happy the riders were making good money but admitted he was a little jealous about the peanuts he made in his day.

Speaking of Roger...when should we hear something about our Nations team?  Hopefully it's not delayed again.

Supposedly being announced at ironman but sexton, tomac, Deegan have all more or less confirmed they are in. Jcoop said he hasn't heard anything, so seems like it's done deal as long as sexton doesn't get landed on in an smx race or someone blows an Achilles.

I think Hunter would have to leave to get a big money offer. Why would Honda pay big bucks? They already have the guy doing all the winning.

Think about it from the aspect of the other manufacturers that aren’t Honda.  You gonna pay someone big bucks who’s brother is also a badass when sometimes it might take a risky pass to get a win against blood?  I don’t see Hunter putting Jett in the dirt no matter what color bike he’s on.  If I’m Green, or Blue, or Orange, or other shades of Red…I want a guy who I know will do nearly anything for a win.  I’m not saying ride like a scumbag, but I want a guy who doesn’t have to sit next to a top competitor at Thanksgiving who may been over a berm or two during the season.   It’s a tough situation for any other brand to pay him top dollar but Honda.  They’ve got a good thing going, why mess that up?

HRC won't let them be on different teams.  The 2 best, on their team, that train together daily, develop race bikes together, both offer incredible race craft to their development parts, get along well, share the same riding coach (who also is HRC alumni), and also just happen to have the same Father ( who also appears to be a pretty down to earth fella it seems, with a strong work ethic, and a level head on his shoulders...), Nope.  HRC has a once in a generation package on their hands......  Hunter isn't changing colors.  Why would he anyway?  If he has a bike problem, it is too easy to ask the one who can beat him for his input.  Loving brothers never leave the other in the dark, nor in the cold.  I sure as fuck wouldn't my older brother.......  I could easily see Jett taking a cut to secure his own family blood.   He has already started racing is better with his brother being there beside him......  That is a tight family.  A beautiful thing, just like my own.  We just are not near as fast.......

Yeah, I could totally see Jett taking less money to keep Hunter on the team if it came to that. They work way too well together to split up.

If I was Mr Honda I would do 100m 5 year deal for the entire Team Lawrence

Agreed.  I doubt Jett takes a big fat contract that leaves nothing for Hunter.

$25M each for Hunter & Jett, and $50M to lock Tate down as a Honda man for 5 years sounds about right.

Sexton is the next best right now.

That's why I put "or close to it" in my post. If you go off points, Hunter is next and actually tied Jett for 1st in the SMX final points last year.

Jett has said he’ll retire shortly after Hunter does because they have so much fun at the races together. No chance they split teams.

Dude said when Hunter retires that he would probably be done racing, too. I'm sure they work on all this stuff together as a family. It really is a great story. I see multiple guys on mx podcasts saying Hunter needs to go to a different team to beat Jett. I couldn't disagree more. For one, I think Hunter knows deep down he's not beating Jett. And two, he recognizes riding together with Jett for HRC is making him better. I see him going backwards on another team

I think Honda also knows that these two brothers are excellent for marketing. Only scenario I really see Hunter being enticed to leave is if he knows he only has a year or two left of racing in him and another manufacturer is willing to cut him a big fat check. Even then, it’s debatable. I think these guys push each other to be the best racers they can be, not that him switching teams would mean they don’t ride together during the week, but I think being under the same tent helps them tremendously.

I sort of wonder if Red Bull is looking at hedging their bets and looking at being a title sponsor with HRC. The sentiment seems to be that the Bajaj management isn’t as enthusiastic about racing.  If Honda gets an influx of Red Bull cash it could be subject to having the Lawrences under contract.

Just a couple of what ifs……

I basically never believe anything athletes say about their retirement plans, unless it's imminent.  Jett is almost 22 years old.  It's easy for him to say something about retirement now, when it's something that is 5+ years in the future.  That can seem like forever.  But then suddenly he's 27 and realizes he's still having fun, and/or still wants to get paid and/or has some career goals/records to pursue.  Retirement doesn't seem like such a good idea then.

Or maybe the opposite.  Maybe he's made millions, and is sick of traveling and training at age 25 and ready to be done.

So Honda have finally learnt, after Mcgrath and RC, to spend the extra to keep the cream?

Didn’t Hunter sign a 2 year extension in 22’ that was for 23’-24’ seasons. Jett’s contract was through 25’. You would think we would be hearing about a Hunter extension along with Jett if Hunter has been racing without a contract in 25’.

Jett doesn’t have a long resume compared to MC or RC, but if he continues to dominate the way he has, he might just get there. MC and RC really set those records out there.

I thought Hunter was signed until the end of '26. Cant remember which podcast I heard it on. I listen to too many of them
