I jumped on the wagon a few years ago but im about to jump off.  It seems like every time i buy a new set the actual rubber grip is thinner and thinner.  I can barley lean the bike against the van without it tearing the end of the grip.  being a 2 stroke the vibration is coming through like crazy.  Is it a patent issue that other popular brands cant go this route? i like the clean quick install but im ready to bust out the safety wire and twisty pliers so i can put some cushy pillow tops on.

I quit using the lockons 2 years ago, as I also didn’t like the lack of durability.

Yeah I ran lock ons for a few years but switched back to glue ons a year ago. Never going back. Much cheaper, last longer. Takes about 2-3 minutes to install.

The Renthal lock-ons feel very close to the glue ons. Not sure I can tell the difference.

I prefer a regular grip as well. I have XL hands, but don’t like the larger size and firmness of a lock on. I use the Renthal quick bond glue. No safety wire needed.

Regular grips after hating lock ons for a few years. Spray paint and tie wire. Never failed me.

04 cr125 stock grips Real rubber, just enough cushion feeling, last forever,  super tacky .  I use Honda cement & wire.  My pinky & next finger threw my hand is numb from elbow surgery.  I probably couldn’t ride with out the 04 grips.  Along with the rg3 4 rubber post triple clamp I don’t feel square holes at all.

I never up to the lock on grip deal, to thin.  I have nerve issues in my hands.  I want all the help with vibration I can get.  I like old school glue and wire.  I have Domino  grips on three of my 4 bikes and all glue/wire.  Soft and easy on my old tired hands.

I too was a fan of late 80,s OEM Honda grips.

I also hated lock ons but tried the new renthals out and really like them. They feel far more like a standard grip to me. I prefer the Kevlar ones.

I agree with the lock ons being too thin, but I like my grips o/all to be thinner, I find very thick grips give me arm pump ….I ride ktms”s and can wear through the rubber in a few hrs of riding, where my thumb is on the grip. I spin the lock on”s a 1/4 turn when it looks like I am wearing through the grip….

Whether you run glue on or lock ons you guys need to run bar ends, they keep you from tearing up the ends so you can actually get the life out of your grips, I can almost always get my grips to last until the diamond pattern starts getting smooth without the ends getting haggered.

I’ve always thought people were crazy for using lock ons. I’ve used them once in a pinch, but I swear the time I had them on, my hands would kind of cramp more or get more arm pump.

Plus I like having a nice throttle tube.

Oh yeah so smooth PC has the best alum throttle tube.  I tape the throttle wo on the front brake lever to get a smoother & easier pull.  The 04 cr grips I think are the tackiest & just feel soo good in your hands. You hv the gripper seat , grip tape on the side of the bike .  Why not run the tackiest grip & 2 sided sticky tape on the levers is big too.  Way easier pulling the levers. When you roll to the gate knowing you hv the best grip you can hv a real light relaxed grip it helps keep your upper body loose & moving.

I'm running lock-ons for the first time ever and so far I like them. I went with the Renthal tapered style in soft, because that seemed the closest to my usual favorite that I could get. They have a hard end to combat the problem you're having, and they seem thick enough to dampen the vibrations pretty well.

If Tag Metals comes back with the "Cradle" grip, I'd be sorely tempted to go back to glue and wires, but for now, I like the lock-ons.

I would still get proper bar ends if you can. I've cracked the ends of the Renthal's twice now due to tip overs on hard pack.

Clear coat spray paint to slide on and dries tacky, then I just wire tie my grips on. No issues

I use Emig Pro lock ons, plastic/metal bar ends and soft compound. Probably go through 2 sets a year

Tag grips were the best.

When they went tits up, I stocked up on the Rebound low pro grips, I just used the last set a year or so ago. Wish they would make moto stuff again.

Those are the best lock ons I have used. The aluminum end cap is indestructible.

I'll see how it goes. I don't really like bar ends from an installation cleanliness standpoint.

Agreed, my thumb wears a hole in the grip compound before the end gets damaged and I ride 2-3 times a week

Agreed PC makes the best throttle tube I put them on all my bikes
