That storm was no joke. Not very far from the track there are people missing that got swept away with flood water. It was almost like what happened in Waverly.

When the announcers first brought up lightning, did they mention if the race went 20 minutes, it was a complete race?

Yes, as I remember it.

plessinger is the only one it screwed over. but hey at least everyone is safe

How exactly did AP get screwed? If anything he benefited from the red flag. He got blasted by a lapper and J Coop checked out on the next section then they pulled the red flag. AP wasn’t going forward after that and they gave him the spot from the previous lap. He beat J Coop. No way he was getting third in that moto.

I didnt realize they gave him the spot over JCoop. Whats the reasoning there? He was behind him wasnt he?

Once the red flag is thrown the race is over. They go with the last lap completed before the flag.

Yeah that rule definitely needs changed if that’s the case. I mean it’s 2025

Does MXGP have the same rules? Can't remember last time they stopped or shortened a race because of the weather.

I think you skipped not one, but pretty much all classes in, well in every school available, as you seem to think rubber tires on a dirtbike helps against lightning.

Nothing to discuss here. Lets create another thread where all tin foils can gather and discuss flat earth and ama actually deliberately handing Jett the win.

Please elaborate how you with current transponder system, determine riders position without rolling it back to last common pass before the flagg and signals went off.

Rule is fine, its the same for everyone, some win some lose.

Agreed.

I believe the rule is that way because the Red Flag gets thrown instantly and they don’t wait for the Leader to come around again before throwing it.

Pretty sure they red flagged it because they didn’t want anyone—riders, spectators, or staff—getting struck by lightning and dying. But by all means, let’s spin it into a multi-page thread full of wild theories and conspiracies.

Before the second moto started, they came over the loudspeakers and warned the crowd that lightning was in the area and they could call the race and ask everyone to evacuate at any moment.

The rain and lightning that hit about 5 mins after they called the race was INSANE.

Well that sure pokes holes in the narrative that mx is getting pussified.

To think the suffering of all those people injured and killed by lightning strikes at AMA Nationals before they brought out red flags back in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, and 2010's weren't in vain certainly warms my heart...even though nobody has every been struck by lightning attending an AMA National, not one, ever. 🤫

Must be some kind of geographical oddity because it has happened at other outdoor sporting events, nascar comes to mind.

Why not learn from others mistakes?

Well shoot, we're good then! And if someone does get hit by lightning, then we'll know better next time. Amirite? Lightning did hit a tree at the track, per Weege

I think the US open was up to the same game yesterday delaying the round mid tournament for collusion purposes. No logic used, straight conspiracy on everything now.

I saw it on the TV broadcast... twice. If I could see it in the background sky, you know it was visible to the officials.

Weather happens. Some history: Hangtown 1991

Screenshot 2025-06-16 at 3.59.08%E2%80%AFPM

https://racerxonline.com/2017/05/17/24-memorable-motos-hangtown-1991

“Many of the top factory riders got together and urged AMA Professional Motocross manager Roy Janson and referee Ron Crandall to cancel the event, but they refused and the National was run on a rerouted course,” wrote Cycle Newsreporter Nate Rauba.

The rain got so heavy and the water in the valley so deep that Janson and the late Crandall made the unusual decision to call the race after each class had run their first moto, and for good reason: the 250 Class saw half the field’s bikes drown out in the water, including those of title contenders Jeff Stanton, Jeff Ward, Damon Bradshaw, and Jeff Matiasevich.

Two laps earlier and it would have been a better scenario.

I’m sure some of you morons would change your tune if you or a family member were to be struck by lightning.

And probably the same ones who would sue the promoters if it happened.
