When can we actually expect a 350 from another manufacturer?

And yes, new bike prices suck balls.

Yep, they’re all expensive. The 350 is the bike most everyone wants, which could be why they’re pricey. But, if you’re planning on keeping it for 4-5 years then it’s well worth it. 👍

Would some 350 buyers buy one of those rather than a 450/250, thus cannibalizing their 450/250 sales?? Maybe, eh, probably...but I've been on Yamaha's since 2009...and Yamaha is about to lose me to another manufacturer because I'm going to buy a 350.  I know a lot of people who are on Austrian bikes ONLY because no Japanese manufacturer makes a 350...So I think that a Japanese manufacturer (preferably Yamaha) is missing out on a lot of business because they don't make 350's...

Come on Yamaha...make it happen! 350!

In Sweden the rumors are no more KTM group 350 in 2027.
Can´t be true I think...?!

Yeah, but I don't think it's due to one of the most popular models they have.

I'm a former Yamaha fan boy and former mutliple YZ450 owner, and current 350 owner.  I'll never buy another 450 again as long as there are reliable 350 options.  After working out the suspension (via spring conversion), I love the bike.  So Yamaha lost a customer.  Countless examples of my scenario.  Yamaha has no idea how much business they have lost to the KTM group.  If Yamaha offered a 350 tomorrow, I'd be in line at 6 am waiting to put money down on one.  They are losing business they don't even know they lost.  I'd estimate +90% of the guys I know on 350s came over from one of the Japanese 450s.

Yamaha is losing business to KTM? I doubt it. How many ATV’s and SXS’s did KTM sell last year? How about play bikes? Watercraft? Snowmobiles? Sport bikes? Cruisers? I can keep going. Yamaha could probably stop selling all YZ’s and it not make much of a dent in their bottom line.

That's hardly an apples-to-apples comparison.

I would disagree. Both are powersports manufacturers. KTM had the chance to branch out when they acquired Gas Gas and Husky and make three distinct brands. Husqvarna could’ve been used for the ATV/SXS and power equipment side as they already have some name recognition outside of moto. KTM makes race bikes. Gas Gas trail bikes/play bikes. This would’ve allowed them to expand into other markets the way the Japanese have done. The Japanese have historically been conservative when it comes to going into an unknown or unproven segment. If Honda for example makes a CRF350R it takes sales away from 250 or 450 in their eyes. If that sale goes to KTM yes they lose the sale but when the customer wants a pit bike or trail bike for his wife they go right back to Honda etc. for the sale.

Someone make a kit so we can drop an Austrian 350 engine in the Yamaha four stroke chassis already haha.

After getting off my RMZ450, the KTM 350 was just too gutless, 400cc (de-stroked 450) is the go, perfect combination of midrange grunt with less crank momentum.

My ideal 350 has 90% of the torque of a 450 with the top end of a built 250. Pull me out of the corners without the mass spinning around in the engine that tires me out.

I AGREE, BUT ALL THE TEST IVE SEEN SAY THAT A 350 FEELS LIKE A RREALLY FAST 250

I think with ktm's current situation now would be the best time for another manufacturer to jump in with a 350.

Just in my small group of riding buddies 4 of them would buy a yz350 if they made one.

We were just having this conversation at the track on Sun. Three of my buddies bought new Yamaha 450's and love them but I'm allset with getting back on a 450. Yamaha couldnt even keep a 350 on the showroom floor they would sell so quick. I'm done daydreaming about other manufacturers making a 350. Until I see an actual bike in a dealership, I'm a KTM guy. Even if Triumph puts one out, I sure wont be buying the first generation of it seeing the issues guys are having with their 450s

So three of your 450 buddies would buy a Yamaha 350, that's my point, Yamaha would have sold 3 less 450,s.

What's in it for Yamaha?

I would think it might pull some from the KTM group and maybe other companies 450 riders.

You need to twist the throttle more.  They have essentially the same Hp as the RMZ450.  Yes they have about 20% less torque, but there's a very simple fix for that -  just twist the throttle.  It's a beautiful thing.  It's not gutless if you give her the berries.

id be first in line for a Jap 350. ive ridden an fc350 but it wasnt stock, had the spring forks vortex etc. way to expensive  to still not feel as good as a japanese chassis.

maybe ill do an alum frame like the two strokes, but find a way to shoehorn the ktm 350 into a yz/kx frame lol

Yep, if you ride a 350 like you normally ride a 450 it will definitely feel underpowered. If you think you need to change gears don't, just keep twisting the throttle.

How about some what ifs?

What if over the last 12 months Yamaha sold around 4300 YZ250F's and 3300 450's and during the same period there were 1600 350 MX bikes sold between the three colors? Would that get the bean counters in Japan all fired up to add another model to the lineup?  But wait, Yamaha sold around 1700 Yz125's and 1400 YZ85's. No way that Yamaha sold more 125 MX bikes than there were 350cc MX bikes sold.

Now KTM did sell around 3000 300XC-W's(and 1500 Husqvarna TE300's). Maybe Yamaha should really focus on that model.

But wait, Honda sold 12,000 CRF110F's during that same period.

Seeing some of the real numbers can be eye opening for sure.

I love my KTM350. After some nifty aftermarket upgrades and full suspension, I'm holding onto her for quite awhile. Now, if a Japanese company came out with a 350, I may change my tune? I liked my CRF450 handling compared to the 350, but I really enjoy the 350 power deliver after the Vortex by XPR and FMF pipe. 👌

Like I said previously if you look at powersports as a whole the Japanese could stop selling all their CRFs/KXFs/YZFs/RMZs and it would be a small blip on the radar for their bottom lines. The KTM group loses way more market share to the Japanese in the play bike  trail bike market. That being said I’d love to see Japan shake things up and introduce a race 350.

I really think that as long as there are enough similar parts used between a 250 and 350 or between a 350 and 450 that cannibalization would be fairly minimal.

I just picked up a 21' 350 with the vortex ecu, and full mx tech suspension getting rid of the air fork.  Can't ride here because of fire bans , but its faster than I expected with my short test.  15h on the clock.

Yeah but after a while it can become a bit of a chore, having to hammer it too keep it with the 450 whom can just keep thing smooth & patient yet still out pull you.

Sure, but doesn't it also become a chore riding a 450 that has WAY more horsepower than 99% of us need?

450s seem to make me tired way faster than pretty much any other bike.

Not sure that’s the case. 450 needs to be ridden less aggressively, so you can be more efficient by making sure your in a good attack position before rolling it on.

I think all bikes wear you out if your timing isn’t good, 350 is too much like 250f for me. I don’t see the point in a half measure.

Just two short test rides, but I rode a low hour 21 yamaha 450, and the 21 ktm 350 I just bought.  went with the ktm and I'm 225 without gear.  It really surprised me.  Can't wait to log some laps.

The extra inertia in the motor of the 450 makes them seem heavier and more tiring for most folks that I know.

Your mileage may vary.

So much this. 450 is too much for my 48yr old ass. I can be much more aggressive on my 350 with much less risk of it putting me on the ground. 450 makes me lazier and also lets me go faster than my skill level
