What? No, I hadn’t heard that.
He’ll be 40 in December, does that mean he can race 40+ at Loretta’s next year?
But seriously, it would be cool to see some footage of him riding nowadays, even if he’s not doing the crazy out-of-control Stewable shit we all remember him for.
He grew the sport even more after mc, rc, tp.
A great personality, character and father.
Glad he’s back in the sport.

I agree. Id like to see him ride as well.
But, JS is a pretty humble guy that way I think.
Also wonder what bike he rides now?
Ever heard of Ricky Carmichael?
Pretty sure he said he would do LL if his boys were racing it. On that topic RV's boys tried to qualify this year. They didnt make it but are just getting into the sport, I believe
How come people can't just enjoy a video of an incredible talent doing incredible things on a motorcycle? No one thinks your guy sucks just because they posted something complimentary about another rider...
Is he making a comeback?🙃
Sully, its because those people who post such things have nothing better to do than post negative crap to make themselves feel better about themself. Usually this type of person has no friends ( for obvious reasons) and they not only dislike themselves, they dislike most people.
I know people like this. Its nutsness.
There have been two guys in particular in my moto spectating career that left an everlasting impression on me. Two guys I literally would not take my eyes off of when they were circulating a moto track. Danny Chandler and James Stewart.
First time I ever saw him race in person was when he was on Team Green Kawasaki on 85's, at Mosier Valley mx for the GNC's. He was just so far ahead of everyone, and in class to himself. It was jaw dropping incredible what he was doing even back then.
He became my fave to watch and root for, for years.
This video is cool, but is actually not JS7's "prime".
His early years when he could smoke the field of 250f's on his KX125 to his undefeated 450 Nationals season in 2008 were some great years. Those first years for San Manuel band of Indians Casino Yamaha's could've been great, but after 2009, with them reversing the engine, I feel it took him a long time to get it dialed, if it ever did get dialed. Those first years, they kept lowering the radiators, lowering anything they could to bring down the center of gravity. It was such a work in progress I feel Stew left some of his best years with that very slight disadvantage of the bike those years.
But watching him in person, his style, his flow, his speed, it was magic on 2 wheels.
Back in his 125 days there was a year that at Red Bud where they did something kind of unusual with the track on the southern end where the tack elevates up from the bottom of the valley. they had a section that went east west instead of north south when they got rid of the old double double that was there for years. It ran straight across kind of where they come down the hill into the off camber now. There was this big hump that had a huge g-out after it and everyone would let off and kind of tip toe over the thing and then gas it as they went into the low spot. Not James. He'd fly off that rise and just crush his suspension into the bottom of it while the bike, his legs and his arms were all screaming for mercy. It wasn't as spectacular as his scrubs or him sending the leap but it is something I'll never forget. I'd stand there and cringe in amazement every time he did it.
2007 Red Bud. Stew and RC had what is imho the battle of all time. Go watch it on YouTube if you can find it. They were riding so gd hard/fast I don't think I've ever seen a more impressive display of shear speed before or since.
PEDs. ***
Was at this race and one of the strongest memories I have as a kid watching this with my dad. Those guys were just another world ahead of everyone else on the track.
The Nike gear just adds to the aura. Cool video.
That video hits different for sure.
Pit Row
It was a treat to watch him ride! I really like him in the booth more than RC, but I'm not getting into comparing them on the track.
I don't doubt it. RC wasn't my guy, I've almost always been an underdog fan. Reed was my guy. That said, no denying RC didn't take it to both of them, more often than the other way around.
All I could think of before I even clicked on the thread. 🤣
Don't remember the year, but we hosted a Team Green day and James and his Dad were there.
We added about 15 seconds to the back of the track just to change things up a bit in case any of them had been to our Pro-Circuit series.
About 1/2 way through the first big bike session I radioed the back side of the track asking flaggers if the 259 on a 125 was cutting the track anywhere because he was running the same lap times our local fast guys were doing before the addition.
Hauling ass, he was.
I will forget my mother's face before I forget what it was like to watch James ride.
If this sport never adopted four-strokes I think James would have twenty championships, he'd still go by Bubba, and he'd still be #259.
The comment said "no one could touch"....to me that's not an accurate statement. Without that comment I would have never chimed in.
Read the room, this is clearly a JS7 appreciation thread. You don’t need to come in here with your shitty takes that nobody asked for just because you feel the “need” to set them straight
No one EVER made my jaw drop more often than James Stewart.
Totally agree. Nobody did it like James.
Budds Creek '07 was pretty damn epic too. I know technique has improved but watching them go at it, it's hard to believe you could go any faster than them.
