Not a surprise, but still a dissapointment, were Forkner's results. Can't seem to put anything together.

Juju really impressed me. I was expecting him to be at the back of the top 10. Awwsome ride. Apparently he hates Pala too. Hopefully he'll keep this up.

Obviously Chase is the disappointment. If hes out for the season its really going to take some of the shine off outdoors for me right off the rip. Chase seems pretty tough so its not a good sign he couldn't line up for the 2nd moto

I don’t understand why he waited so long. His speed was limited and each lap he did was another lap he could’ve gotten severely injured. Yeah, it sucks he had to pull in but why prolong the pit stop if you can’t even run the pace you normally can.

He’s gone from last to first in a moto before, I think it was a really poor decision on his part to race with a handicap as long as he did.

He was trying to get in and get goggles and come back out in 7th or 8th instead of going in early and coming back out in 25th would be my guess on why he was waiting to get them.

I thought that too. I understand the logic but definitely disagree with the decision to race without goggles. See it a lot at local races too during mudders. One rock is all it would take. Not worth it. No one in their right mind would’ve thought he was soft for pulling in and getting it sorted out.

Biggest disappointment for me was Haarup, I believed he’d be inside the top 10.

It looked to me like there were two possible causes for the crash.
1. With comprised vision he hit something he would normally miss and landed in a hole. Or
2. He hit a false neutral, which would have nothing to do with having no goggles.

Both very possible.

Plain and simple, Sexton was a disaster.

Anderson’s 5th in moto 2 was fairly surprising to me.

The DNFs of crashes and bike failures were giving me the feeling that teams weren’t ready for racing longer than 15 minutes

I think he will improve the next few rounds...

Biggest surprise, Jett still looks like he's out on a sighting lap when pulling a gap on ET.

But really, seeing ET fire off at Rd. 1 was quite the surprise. The fitness is there, the speed is there, I hope they both stay healthy for Southwick.

The entire Triumph team… and the lack of reporting about them… disappointed me.

Let's sprinkle in a few more nationals before getting too excited or disappointed.

Yeah, Deegan and especially Jett seem to struggle at other tracks. 😂

You’re most likely right, I just found it amusing you used those two as your examples.

Obviously Sexton was the big bummer of the weakened. Other then that, Prado was a big disappointment. I really hope J mart can turn it around at a more traditional track next week. Triumph is clearly looking for a rebound.

Juju was a big surprise for me, Patural getting 9th but when you factor in Sextons DNF/DNS and Webb’s moto DNF it’s less so. But still 9th was impressive.

Has anyone mentioned JMart going 20-20?

It surprises me how off the pace he was.

Same, I thought Prado would have done better, maybe not a win but atleast around the top 3 and not a minute down the track. I remember a prime Herlings coming here on a new track, with a different bike and immediately being up front.

Prime Herlings wasn’t on a new bike.
Prado will get better each round

Agree. I'm sure hes in a similar boat as Prado adjusting to the how the Nationals are run, with so little track time before the race

I know he was wanting to let the field get spaced out some, but Chase riding without goggles with the roost those 450s throw was risky. I think in MXGP they have a rule you can’t ride without goggles and would get flagged off the track.

Definitely off the pace but not surprising to me since he’s had very little time on any motorcycle for quite some time.

Its a farewell tour more than a comeback

I took a river rock into mine once (the old Jolly Rogers in WA…IYKYK) about the size of a golf ball on a 4th gear uphill. Blew the lens completely out of the frame, and knocked me silly enough that I kept riding, but forgot which jumps were which until I got my brain back online enough to pull off.

-Chase situation

-Eli being right there with Jett despite Jett clearly being back to form

-The ludicrous speed of the Jett and Eli show going through that long high-speed roller section…holy crap. Can’t imagine what it looks like in real life…

-Kitchen being totally out of contention

-Webb’s engine tossing in the towel on a relatively cool day on a dry track

-Webb’s performance (engine issues aside)-dude brought it, especially considering most everyone had dismissed him for outdoors

I was most disappointed in Eli, honestly. At the 1st race of the season, he had everything set up to lay the hammer down on the kid. I know he absolutely gave it his all, but I'm still disappointed. If he passed Jett in moto 2, i think it would have impacted how this entire series looked. Just my .02

if those 2 stay healthy this season, i think it'll rival the epic js7/rc4 nat series. They'll rotate wins weekly. One can hope.

Biggest surprise for me: the broadcast. It was really good! Just like everyone else, I wasn't a fan of the split screen, but the rest was pretty damn good. Stewart and weigandt were amazing with excellent insight. Jt was great as always and Hailey was a breath of fresh air. When they brought her in she had relevant takes, didn't go on and on, and did the job justice. I like this broadcasting combo.

Disappointment: it's gotta be Chase. Every bit of his situation sucks. It sucks for him, his camp, and the fans. I hope he's back and 100% next weekend.

Parker Ross with a top 15 oa in his first pro race is worth a mention.

Yes he was. The GP bikes use different frames, fuels, etc. And he rode the bike for the first time the Thursday before the race

Biggest Disappointment: The whole 250 field not having the fitness to go with Deegan.

Biggest Surprise: How far back JMart was and Webb's mechanical seemed really odd

Agree, it's amazing how fit Deegan is compared to 'almost' everyone else... you can count on Deegan going hard the last 5-10min and you can almost count on that most will slowly fade during last 5min... why? Is Brian such a fantastic physical trainer, is moms paste that good or is the will to win just so much stronger since that's the only income he has for his family ? Wink

That’s a bit different than a whole different brand bike.

Not "the biggest" but still a big surprise: Anderson second moto 5th.

I was surprised by this also! Webb didn't ride bad either in second moto. He was all over Prada for a long time. And AP getting Hunter on the last lap!

But tomac and Jett pushing each other dropped the rest of a very fast pack of guys. No one can say shit about their fitness. They were balls out for 32 minutes. Not sure if tomac got held up by lappers or couple mistakes. Seemed like he mailed in and couldn't catch Jett those last couple laps. With like 3 to go the gap was like 1.7'ish seconds then 5 seconds lap slower. Figure he was like risk when you can't do it without a bigger mistake.

Wow that was a good race!! Looking like a fucking raccoon today and lips are toast but it was a great first Cali mx race. On to Hangtown for my second and probably last ever. Lol

It’s impressive watching Jett ride compared to Eli. Jett looks like he’s just cruising around and Eli is so aggressive. Jett has that corner roll speed with the slow in fast out approach with Eli much faster in and losing mid corner and exit speed. It’s going to be a long summer for 3rd-40th pending Chase.

Surprised by Jo. I’m hoping he is able to get in front of Deegan.
Disappointed by the rest of the 250 class. Lots of potential front runners that didn’t deliver this weekend. Deegan came to party and has figured out that he can wait and doesn’t have to be in first in the first few laps.

I'm surprised at the expectations people had for J-Mart. Where he finished seems to make sense. If he can break into the top 15 at some point, he is hauling ass. This isn't 2016 and the field is plain faster. Biggest disappointment-Sexton by a mile. 2nd biggest surprise(s)-Hampshire, Hymas, JuJu, Shomoda, all had pace to run with Deegan for a good portion of the motos, a good sign for the season.

Biggest surprise (a tie)-Jett is ridic. I mean, come on. And Tomac, despite all of his time away, his speed was stupid good. #legend

Prado-about right-he will get better.
