He said something stupid when he was 14. Was it really, really, really idiotic for Jett to say that? Yes. Does it make him racist? Don't necessarily think so. You would be surprised by what young people from other countries understand about that word. They know is “bad” but they also hear it every day in songs, films, YouTube videos…etc. They admire and want to emulate a lot of these hip hop artists. You can see white teenagers in Europe that are into hip hop calling each other the n word. Are they aware of what they are doing? Yeah somewhat, but nothing like an American kid who raised in the middle of that struggle. It is good to educate and raise awareness towards important important topics, but it’s also important to contextualize before passing judgement. It's a word, context matters and he didn't use it in a racist context. Doesn't mean it wasn't dumb, but I did dumb shit as a 14 year old too

But then you have Mirtl texting ML (by his own admission) and instead of saying "Cool - let's do a massive expose article on this entire drama-fest cause my readers definitely want to know about it, and it's relevant to our sport"...he makes fun of Mirtl and shrugs his shoulders. It's just confusing to me. He's literally banging on the door wanting to have the "press" give his side...but he's been black-balled by the "media"....who won't cover the topic but instead let Cooksey do it and then just make fun of him.
I dunno - just seems like missed opportunities as a "journalist". Thus my comment that ML's comment pretty much cements that he doesn't really wanna cover NEWS necessarily, which is just disheartening as a fan because so many things go unreported simply because "media" wants to keep their bro-relationships going.

I agree that only negative things can come to Jett because of this...and this is exactly what Mirtyl wants.
Our gutter main stream media over here (which I believe is one of the worst in the world) covers literally zero about moto but if they got a sniff of this they'd splash it everywhere for the obligatory 2 week period crucifying Jett as a racist.
There's not a single part of me that believes Jett is racist but what he said is definitely offensive no matter how it was said.

ML and DC and lotsa these guys claim they are "covering the sport" which sounds great, but here we have one of these people (ML) saying "LOL - Stupid Mirtl texted me, and Matthes...and we all just laughed at him!" while ignoring hte fact that this topic is a story of high interest for the fans, yet they refuse to address/cover/print anything related to the topic.
So this sorta sealed the deal with me to expect nothing but PR and softball questions from anyone associated with this sport.

Yes can confirm, one of the seven N Creeks mentioned in the article was near me. I work for a state government department and besides the name appearing on official maps, it was used in formal documents and reports until recently. It is now an unnamed creek.

Being denied entry to tracks, Sonya getting spit on while trying to watch her sons ride, the family being called slurs (including the one Jett used, admitedly) with malice and hatred behind those words. When I juxtapose that with a video of a dumb, impulsive 14-year-old saying a bad word which he almost certainly doesn't understand the impact of as a foreigner, I just can't see what Jett did as being in the same stratosphere. It's not a good look, no, not at all. But to me it doesn't serve as evidence of him being racist
