I just read the interview on RacerX with RJ. Have to give him props for owning it 100%. He does not beat around the busy at all. But two things stand out to me.
1. Jack Chambers gave him his gate pick. I thought that was interesting.
2. How RJ knew just passing Seth was not enough. He needed to put people between him and Seth to win the title.
Overall hard not to appreciate his outlook on how it all went down. Something tells me he would have been okay with it had the roles been reversed.
Also, I feel like Tom winning was almost the universe paying Tom back for the mud race DNF. He would have won this title easy had he scored only a 10th that night.
You would get more comments if you put Deegan in the title.
Wdym it stood out to you that "RJ knew just passing Seth was not enough, he needed to put people between him and Seth"
He's had like 2 weeks to sit down and do the math, I'm sure the team and him talked about it, what position he needed to get should certain scenarios happen and whatnot
I find it interesting that he got his wrist operated on 2 days ago and he plans on racing the 450 at Pala.
Isn’t he just having some old hardware taken out?

Oh he knew the math for sure. Clean Seth out and finish 2nd but Vialle would still beat him if he finished 4th. Shitty in my opinion and have always been a RJ fan.
I don't know, perhaps someone else can listen to this interview he did yesterday and decipher what he had done . He had the wrist operated on in November,... it was still 50% broke when he started riding in January...then the screws started backing out...then they fell out and went into the wrist joint...then he rebroke the bone and basically to ride he took Ibuprofren and taped it up real good.

I meant it as in RJ has the label of riding without thinking. Just sends it, etc. He has never been accused as calculated or thinking while racing.
Respect to RJ for going for it..... this is racing, with money, titles on the line it's every man for himself.
As a RJ fan - I still think it was a shitty move. I get you are fighting for a Chip but to win it that way???. I get running it in on Seth - but to intentionally take him out is cheap. I would not feel good about it.
But Osbourne is a legend because of that very move
LoL...you're overlooking a pivotal piece here...Osborne did NOT take himself out. So many people make this lame comparison and overlook the fact that Osborne stayed on two wheels , not the case for RJ.
Sure, but you think RJ meant to go down? Just because he fell doesn't make it a bad comparison. If it worked, he becomes a legend.
Yeah, but Osborne was taking Savatgy out two turns from the finish to win the title in a winner-takes-all scenario. Hampshire took Hammaker out with plenty of laps left to make the pass cleanly and needed to put riders between him and Hammaker. In other words, Osborne did it because it was his last option, Hampshire did it to deliberately take Hammaker out.
Admittedly, I wanted Osborne and Hammaker to take their respective titles so I might be a little biased. I also don't have that much of a problem with what Hampshire did. I think what Beaumer did was significantly worse.
I am ok with RJ's move... Juju's on the other hand, I thought he has handled himself well all year up until that moment. He should never have injected himself into things.
LoL..WTF are you talking about?
The difference between losing vs winning hinges entirely upon not going down yourself when you pass someone aggressively.
So again. Do you really still not see the glaring difference between how Osborne pulled that pass off when compared to RJs sail and bail into that corner?
Yeah one crashed and one didn't. I get it
Juju was just out there as a soldier, a grunt following his orders.
I am sure he was told his sole job that race was to get between Seth and the other guys.
i have more agaisnt for Ju ju inserting himself into something he wasn't apart of, more than RJ going RJ,
although the incidents of RJ's lack of respect for fellow riders are growing, first Jet in the last corner in mud a few years back, the first turn in the mud, and now just ploughing into Seth,
Pit Row
Better than losing it by playing follow the leader.
I’ve tried to be an RJ fan for years because I used to watch him haul ass at Dade City as a kid, but I just can’t make it happen. The guy just keeps doing the same boneheaded shit year after year and everyone just writes it off as trying too hard. I don’t get the theory some have that he will ride the 450 better because he overrides the 250, he has a ton of catastrophic crashes and the 450 only makes them faster and more violent.
Why do so many people have a problem with it? Maybe rj should have picked a better spot/thought more.. but if he executes the pass and puts Hammaker on the ground there's a good chance he would have won the chip.
Here’s the problem: He didn’t execute and ruined both of their chances.
The universe paying back Tom for his DNF? So his DNF wasnt his fault?
Controversy was about scoring 22nd place in the end of the day.
I still dont understand why team KTM didnt send any official protest to the AMA...
Not specific to RJ, but rather than waiting for the end of the season, why not just take guys out all year to build points. Points in round 1 count the same as the last race. The race for the championship starts in Rd 1. Chase may have won the title had he taken out Coop along the way. Seems we have an odd way to draw a line of when it’s ok, or not.
I agree.
But he took him out on purpose. Nothing wrong with hitting to make the pass stick - but to go in to make him crash - dick move
Not sure I can follow his description of events before the pass. Also no RJ not everyone would do it, or Chase would have.
I know we like to compare Osborne’s pass but he didn’t go in there to take Savatgy out. He made an aggressive pass that put Savatgy down. Making him crash wasn’t the intention. RJ intended to take him out bad enough that someone could pass him. That’s just too much IMO.
Oh no kidding? I wasnt aware of any of that
Yeah, really weird deal there.
Exactly, I’m guessing the people cheering RJs move wouldn’t be so pumped if Chase took Webb out the previous two races, you know just because it was his only option for a championship…
