For all the Eli Tomac to KTM narratives out there, KTM is broke, right? They stiffed all their suppliers by 70%, not some, all of them. Brembo, Neken, all of them. How will they go forward? It is no secret in the MotoGP paddock that KTM group riders are looking for exits, I would bet that is part of the reason Sexton is going as well. Eli really has no place to go except Ducati or Triumph.
Eli could go to Beta...

I mean, SERIOUSLY. Yamaha is a global brand and I know budgets are budgets this is such a monumental fail if Yamaha won't add the zero he wants to the check to make this happen for '26. Yamaha should be doing everything in the world to have him retire on their bike. They would lose so much of their stature if ET retires on a pumpkin. It's just mind-boggling.

Eli is a legend and will be talked about for decades. Yamaha should do whatever it takes to keep him.
We also don't know the whole story. Maybe he wantd an ambassador deal on the backend or something like that. Lots of moving parts in these end of career contracts
At what point does Eli come back to Yamaha and say “fine, I’ll do 250k plus win only bonuses”
We don't know the nature of Eli's contract of course - if the money is guaranteed through an injury or not.
They seemed over the moon to have him continue in '24 and '25 beyond their expectation.
But injuries have derailed both of those seasons - Yam could be spending a lot of cheese for not a lot of output.
It seems like all parties should be able to find a way - Eli and blue are on fire when injury-free.
A matter of pride, and budgets.

If its just a pay cut I think he'd stay and go for glory. What I see is a guy who wamts to beat Jett to prove it to himself.
If thats the case who cares about more money. These guys are already set, have investments, and dont have to work ever again.
Hope he stays star, or at least on the yamaha, and really cant say Id understand switching unless its just money. And if it is just money, might as well just do parade laps unless you can get the bike dialed for yourself in a 4 week window.
In the 90s I winced when Joe Montana went to Kansas City and Jerry Rice to Oakland after a career with SF 49rs. I'd hate for Eli to leave Yamaha too but sometimes the unreasonable happens.
Honda find the bread give eli a bike and let him run his current program. They have the deepest pockets and it's Eli Tomac. Let him find his 2015 season form on the Honda again.

As other people have mentioned in this thread, KTM might not be willing/able to give a contract more than 1 year (Plessinger only got 1 more year). Chase probably wants (and can get) more than a 1-year contract. But Eli is probably more willing, and/or only wants to go for a 1-year contract.

I recently bought a new Yamaha bass but I guess that didn't expand there budget enough. All jokes aside, I hope that he comes out next Saturday on a mission, with a chip on his shoulder. Few mention it but he's been pretty darn good at Pala especially taking the clutch 1-1 to win the championship in 22.
It's simple if you think about it. Yamaha knows Eli is on the way out and want to invest in their future (Deegan). They also have Jcoop and Webb (I'm sure Webb got a big increase for 26).

100%. It's like Jordan and his time with Charlotte. Nobody even thinks about that shit - everyone thinks of the BULLS. He shoulda stopped there, but that's another convo. But ET's deal is kinda the same - Yamaha has GOTTA find the coin to make this work. Anything else is just a major league letdown for all of us folks that have no skin in the game, but DAMMIT, we wanna see him go out the right way ;-)

That’s what I was saying, he brought them their first SX title since James in ‘09 and made it the bike to be on. Yamaha should make it happen, or Monster for all the titles he’s won with them alone.
Monster should and could. Their stock has been doing well.
Anyone catch swapmoto pod this week? Can't remember who said it but one of them said with some confidence that Eli had orange, black, and red Japanese bike in his garage right now. Any chance Honda surprises everyone?
