Sexton has that KTM dialed, I mean he has never looked better on that bike nor looked better in general. I'm struggling to understand why he wants to move again, outside of him perhaps worried about KTM and the financial situation. He is my bet to win the outdoor title.

A pay cheque and not having to hear constant rumors of his employer going broke.

I recently left a job I liked in an industry where any news is bad news, bad markets, poor profits, shutdowns within the company and industry. You cant blame him if that's his reason for leaving, it cuts you you down.

So KTM needs to come up with 1/2 a billion by may 23 for creditors and then in June goes back to courts.
Might not even be a team next year and if you don’t jump ship now might not have a place next year.
I can 100% understand why he’s leaving. Nobody knows what will happen to KTM in the future so why chance it?

It is mind boggling that he is jumping ship.

I have to kind of disagree he's riding for a manufacturer that doesn't even have enough money to manufacture motorcycles it's mind boggling to me that they're even still racing I understand the whole racing is promoting but they're not building anything to sell ktm's Futures is very dim unless the government steps in! Otherwise it's going to turn into indian/china-owned that'll kill their premiere status!

Chase is looking more solid on the KTM, which would suggest its not an issue of the bike being the deciding factor. I have to imagine him leaving being an issue of KTM's instability. It might be that he didnt get enough of a money offer or maybe not enough years in the contract, (ap only got a 1 yr, so maybe chase was too?)

as far as setting up a bike Kawasaki has been noted to be much more rigid in the left to right limits on what theyll be ok changing. they have an idea or philosophy of the 'box' that the bike should be in to work best and they want the rider to find something in that box.

The "gain" is being paid more (or at least the same) and being 100% sure that you actually will be paid and that you have a semi with a bike at A1 2026.

I hope people like AP, Vialle etc have some kind of backup plans if the worst case scenario becomes reality.

I believe that the backwards hat on the podium is super intentional.  He’s contractually obligated to show the logo and is deciding not to for a reason.  Hes dishonest often about how he really feels, after for quite awhile being candid in interviews it seems to me that he’s swung the other way.

Beyond comprehension that he may have been offered better terms, better basic, better bonuses, longer contract by another employer??

We’ll never know, but fuck me, this is only business at the end of the day.

It’s probably the financial situation with KTM.

The real question is: Can the Kawi be fast?

Generally the Kawi seems (with Anderson Febvre and Prado as examples) bigger wider and slower imo. It’ll be a test for Chase to actually win on it.

If you worked for a company and your salary was $1,000,000, but that company is facing at a minimum major restructuring....and their stock has taken a massive dump again in the last few weeks....and another company offered you the same salary (or more) and likely a 3 year contract with likely even better benefits etc...what would you do?

It’s easy to say this now. You can look at this soo many different ways. Everyone is discrediting Webb and his title and say the “field was depleted”. So that would mean Chase doesn’t have the bike all that figured out and could improve. I’m not one of those people I do believe no one could beat him right now heads up. He could just want a change he could want a better set up than he has, could be money could be stability. Chase knows. If he feels he does have the best set up but wants better in other aspects of the team that’s for him to decide.

I agree. Threads like these have been around for a few weeks now and I have a hard time understanding how people don’t get it.

At your current job, if your company is in serious financial trouble and a pretty equal competitor offers you a job for probably more money but at the worst same how many of you wouldn’t take the new offer? Let’s be honest we all would. This is literally no different. Is ktm going under? Who know maybe not but what if they do and he has to scramble for a new ride and be behind the 8 ball. It’s so weird to me people don’t understand this.

There’s another factor that has been touched on, while everyone focuses more on being paid. Sexton has at least a few years left, not just one. If he stays with KTM and they fold mid-season, he will almost certainly get paid for his contract. However, that still leaves him without a ride for at least a partial season. At best, a fill-in spot is open but that still leaves him racing on a bike with zero development time and likely very different from the KTM group bikes in terms of setup and feel. Not a good situation to be dealing with in the prime of one’s career, especially if he can avoid it by signing with a company that (as someone else said) “isn’t going anywhere.”

Just posted on May 8th

KTM's parent firm Pierer Mobility has posted brutal preliminary results for 2024, revealing a €1.28billion loss before tax and plunging sales as the company scrambles to restructure its business.

Equity has gone deep into the red at minus €199 million while revenue nosedived by 29.4% to €1.88bn from €2.66bn the previous year, with net debt ballooning to €1.64bn.

Signing with Kawi is a smart move.

How many times does it have to be pointed out ktm NA is separate from ktm Austria/pmg?

Honest question, how is KTM NA funded? I know they work with Wells Fargo but are they paying their own debt and solvent on their own, or does PMG or another entity cover some or all of their debt payment?

Quite often, the top racers will purchase an insurance policy to protect them against something such as an injury. There’s no reason Sexton couldn’t purchase a policy that would protect him from KTM becoming insolvent.
I highly doubt it’s due to a money issue for him. Chase has been on the KTM for a couple of years now and probably feels that he’s reached the bikes potential. In his mind, he feels there’s a better chance of winning under a different brand.

Insurance like that might be pretty expensive, if Chase is trying to insure the salary of a company that is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Dude SAME THING with Tomac leaving Star. I just can’t believe it. Why leave for just 1 more year of racing most likely? I get it Eli’s is a money thing, but Sexton, man, I don’t get it.

if I could put  anywhere, it would be star. I picture him being so much faster  on star lol
