I’m not particularly fond of him, but it’s cool that he is there. That’s the power of the Wassermans.

On the topic of growing the sport...

How did SX/MX fall from the pop culture peak of McGrath and Carmichael on the Tonight Show, and Carmichael and Stew on Kimmel (I think it was Kimmel, could've been another show)? I couldn't imagine Jett, Tomac, or Deegan getting slotted for a prime spot like that.

My unpopular opinion for MX shrinking to what it is now is the phenomenon of the shrinking/disappearing middle economic class in the US. I’ve done the research and have it scribbled down on some notebook paper, but I took a few Motorsports and compared the costs to participate in their heyday, (I chose the late 70s to early 80s for MX) compared to what the relatively same equipment cost now. You’d be pretty shocked to see that a ton of MX stuff like bikes, gear, riding fees really just have kept up with inflation through the years.

When comparing the circle track racing costs from the 80s and what my dad spent on a set of Hoosier tires to now is just asinine, and the overall rules and classes of cars have changed so much to where there is hardly anything that is a “stock” class anymore. The average man is just about truly out priced in that world.

I think the biggest threat to the growth/health of our sport is the cost of living is rising uncontrollably. Motocross was and always will be a niche sport even if we were on ESPN or Jay Leno. I think a huge portion of the Jay Leno debacle that gets overlooked is that Jay is a huge motorsports guy himself, I’m sure he had some pull in getting MC and RC there.

Yeah look at F1. Ticket prices are insane.

I’m not talking ticket prices. I’m talking local barriers to entry. Open ride fees, race fees, etc. I couldn’t possibly care less about what Feld or MX Sports decide to charge for their tickets because raising or lowering does absolutely nothing in regards to my local tracks that I ride at..sort of like how F1 ticket fees have no relation to the local karting tracks fees..

Sounds like it's a double-edge sword. Ticket prices would go up, local track fees would stagnate or hopefully go down...

And even then that’s just a maybe on actually helping keep the local costs in check🤷🏼‍♀️it certainly won’t hurt in the long run though, just may or may not help

1974 Honda CR125 - $889 ($5,182 in 2024 dollars)

In 1975, the middle class range in the US was generally considered to be between $13,720 and $16,600 per household ($79,971 and $96,758 in 2024 dollars).

A CR125 that year was about 6.5% of the lowest yearly  middle income, and 5.4% of the highest.

2024 Yamaha YZ125 - $7,199

2024 Yamaha YZ250F - $8,899

In 2024, middle-class household income in the U.S. typically ranges from approximately $50,000 to $150,000.

A 2024 YZ125 was 14.4% of the lowest yearly middle income, and 4.8% of the highest.

A 2024 YZ250F was 17.8% of the lowest yearly middle class income, and 5.9% of the highest.

In 1975, about 60% of the US population was considered middle class.

In 2024, about 51% of the US population was considered middle class.

Just some info to go along with Rickyisms opinion, which is an opinion I mostly agree with 🙂

Yeah, I remember doing a similar analysis with cars in one of my economics classes in college. I think this type of comparison is the most egregious with residential properties.

We don't need to over think this.  The kind of people who are into the MET gala aren't going to be buying bikes, and heading to the track.  They may attend an A1 type event, but that's about it.

Some of them may actively try to ban dirt bikes/fossil fuels/oil etc in the future.

for sure not a crowd we need at the races IMO. I will gatekeep on this one I think.

I don't know why we are viewing this as an event to promote the sport as if every public appearance Jett makes he is working for his employer or for the greater good of the sport.

I'm happy for the kid. He's a baller and he gets to see how ballers in other cultures roll at this event. Maybe he likes it or maybe he gets weirded out by it.

In the end its just another life experience he can say he did that most others can't and I think that's pretty cool.

Don’t speak an injury into existence; maybe our last opportunity to see Jett/Eli/Chase go at it for a title.

I honestly think the sport reached a level and speed now where crashes and injuries are almost unavoidable, specially among the top guys. The amount of injuries specially over the last couple years in both MXGP and SX/Outdoors are on another level. Sexton and Seewer seem to be the only guys where crashes don't instantly result in a season ending injury. Something needs to change but it's probably not the right thread for this discussion haha.

Sad thing for him is that he gets himself worked into a conniption from his own BS, hence his "FFS" at the end.

You could copy and paste that for at least 50% of the Deegan thread regulars.

For a sport that is funded solely by advertising and sponsorship money, the fans sure hate things that advertisers and sponsors might like to be a part of.

Last time I seen a moto guy buying a nice suit was Emig in Vegas around his retirement time (2000 MGM).  He picked up a nice black summer suit and spent a pretty penny on it.

Mr Roczen a few years back at A1?

Seeing my dude all dressed up, Hell yeah. Everybody’s favorite OG did some Pimp Nhoe N

If Jet keeps it up with the glamor, he could be the next Pamela Anderson  🤘🏁

I hope he don’t go Diddy, but at this point, I’m not gonna rule it out

Final thought- JL is gonna do finish line whips while he’s roosting Deegan.
Good stuff on the way

Deep rumor is JL might ride trans and seriously bust some big records and knock off some dorks that have been sitting at the top too long.

AI Overview

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It's a highly exclusive, celebrity-studded event held on the first Monday of May, coinciding with the opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibition. Guests are expected to adhere to a specific theme set for the exhibition, often resulting in elaborate and fashion-forward ensembles.

5 pages and only hint of a mention about his Missus.
Maybe some people are too focussed on dudes. Not judging, just saying.
I'd say he was more there as Dylan Conriques plus 1 more than anything

Yup ! You know a Jett or Hunter thread will get Magoofan riled up, unfortunately it's a given each and every time. It is best to downvote it and not bother responding to it.
