I'm really not sure. This is a crazy new world in the NCAA and i am so glad i dont coach college swimming any longer.
Most conferences have now set roster limits for sports starting next fall. I'm not 100% sure how this translates to other sports. I imagine track and field is dealing with something similar to what we are seeing in swimming.
As an example, the SEC just limited the roster sizes for swim teams to 18. Most top 25 ranking swim programs have 35-40 swimmers on the roster. Teams can only bring 18 athletes to NCAAs, and qualification in swimming is determined on an individual basis, not on a team basis. It's rare for a team to have 18 or more NCAA qualifiers. Swimmers who do not qualify for NCAAs are still very important, even on the best teams like Texas, Florida and Cal.
Some of those swimmers who dont qualify for NCAAs this year are on the bubble of qualifying for the meet next year. Unfortunately there is no way for those swimmers to remain student athletes at their school they are attending if they are not in the top 18 performers. This is all to cut costs due to increased expenses associated with NIL.
I worked with a kid who is now at the university of Florida who earned the final roster spot for next year. He is an incredible athlete and great human. It's hard to comprehend that he almost needed to transfer schools just to continue swimming. There is no such thing as professional swimming, so it's not like football or basketball. These kids are staying dedicated and disciplined while earning the degree which they will use for the rest of their lives. Over half of that Florida roster, along with most major swimming schools have two options at this point.
1. Retire from swimming, and finish their education at the school they chose to attend. Maybe they could have had a break out year coming up, but they need to put that aside because of the roster limits.
2. Transfer to a new school. Uprooting their entire support system, academic scholarships, and relationships with their teachers and other school staff which would help them move into the workforce in the near future.
It's a loose loose situation.
The transfer portal has never been so full. It's absolute insanity. The negative ramifications that this has on incoming athletes is yet to be seen, but it won't be good. There's no room on the rosters due to the high amount of transfers. It's all due to roster limits, which originate from attempting to offset the new expenses from NIL.
I'm sure some schools have a plan, and no doubt the sports that generate revenue will be protected. These Olympic sports that don't generate revenue are on the chopping block.
Really cool that the NE part of the country gets 4 races this year. But all in the month of April is rolling the dice on the weather.
Most of them had a built in solution( to not having something like SX)where they were having big spring games and they would not be interested. However, most are doing away with them because they dont want other schools to get tgeir secrets, injuries, etc. I still dont know if you can get some of the big SEC programs like Alabama, Oklahoma or texass to bring something like SX into their stadium. But, now that they are punting(pun intended) the spring games, there now is a possibility where there once wasnt. Could open some nice big stadiums.
Amen brother!! I will drive home and watch from my couch like I did 2 years ago in NJ.
The only thing worse than watching a mudder from home is watching a mudder in person while it's raining. (My opinion anyway!)

I highly disagree. The rain keeps a lot of the general public away (you know, the ones almost throwing up on you as you make your way to your seat before the races even start or starting fights because they showed up to drink rather than watch the races), and what's left is generally the hardcore fans that follow the racing and know what's going on. The overall experience can actually be much better and with much less dumb ass factor throughout the day, at least that's been my experience in the past.
I hear ya man,…but I prefer a dry track with great racing,..not put putting around walking the bike over rhythm sections. And I definitely prefer to be dry and comfortable while watching the race live for sure!
But I understand your points about the “not so real fans” who are probably just locals and go there for a party,..not to watch a race. That definitely IS annoying. And knowing Philly locals you can probably X that by 10!!! Haha
AP loves hearing the rain on his roof at night.

Rain = shorter races because of longer lap times…right?
Does anyone else remember (90s) the little number tents the guys would run on their helmets in mud races? Should we bring those back?
For real mud-fests, you need rain at time-practice and at the night show. Otherwise the dirtwurx crew will work their butt off and create something decent. Last weekend the rain started to fall like crazy at the start of the night show while everything was already soaked and couldn't take more. But I think we need to give the people from DirtWurx a compliment and be aware that they always try to prevent biblical mudraces.
I was kinda thinking flags...like dune buggy whips 😁
Great ideas!
Mannnn supercross in the swamp🔥🔥
Weather is shaping up well, will probably be muddy but hopefully no rain outside of a bit during qualifying.
Most of this money is not NIL but a "collective" of donors who pay the players. Name Image and Likeness would be the player is promoting a product. And only a handful of them are doing that. That said college sports suck now.
Shame it’s a day race since it looks like they could’ve gotten away with the rain on Friday and Saturday morning if they didn’t have to start at 8 AM. Today and tomorrow are clear and Thursday doesn’t look bad either so they should be able to build it and get covered in time. Bummer.

Likely no press day friday, and it’s probably going to rain saturday.

The roof of his Hotel? Or does AP stay in a motorhome?
Which of these wont allow dirt inside?
State Farm Stadium | Arizona Cardinals
– Retractable
Mercedes-Benz Stadium | Atlanta Falcons
– Retractable
AT&T Stadium | Dallas Cowboys
– Retractable
Ford Field | Detroit Lions
NRG Stadium | Houston Texans
– Retractable
Lucas Oil Stadium | Indianapolis Colts
– Retractable
Allegiant Stadium | Las Vegas Raiders
SoFi Stadium | Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams
U.S. Bank Stadium | Minnesota Vikings
Caesars Superdome | New Orleans Saints
And Edward Jones Dome in St Louis not added to that list....so that's 11 Domes available (assuming all let you inside).
Why did you include stadiums they are already racing in?
State Farm: used
AT&T: used
Ford Field: used
Lucas Oil: used
Allegiant and SoFi do not want dirt inside.
Mercedes Benz, Allegiant and So-Fi....SX goes to all the others.
I just copied and pasted a list online, hence the hyperlinks
Why don't they go to Houston or New Orleans every year?
They claim New Orleans is because of pits but several races don’t have pit parties. I can guarantee New Orleans would be more people than Birmingham but I’m guessing would be much more expensive.
Weather is actually looking better for Saturday. It’s going to be rutty for sure but I don’t think it will be a slop fest like last weekend.
A few reason's actually in Houston they have to schedule around the Houston rodeo and the schedules of the other stadiums availability come into play. New Orleans is one of the most used stadiums in the US with concerts, sporting events and conventions so they have to schedule around all of that and the other stadiums available dates. It's not as easy as just saying we want to go there....
SoFi not having supercross is odd as they have held/are holding Monster Jam. SofI will have Monster Jam on May 17th.
So why not Supercross?
Allegiant Stadium in Vegas is the only one that doesnt allow dirt inside as of yet.
