Never happen with current “Mx\Sx media” to busy Bro-in down…to bring hard facts
It's not great, no doubt. I could jive a lot better though if her contributions were at appropriate times and only when necessary. Also, get to the point. "I talked to so and so about their injury, the xrays were negative and their cleared to give it a go tonight." I don't wanna hear her talk for more than 7 seconds.
We often steal the best riders from MXGP….how about you go offer thier whole MXGP TV production and pay them well? They do it soooo much better, on probably a fifth the budget, while it is amazing Feld/peacock can be so bad.
It's not what you know it's who you blow (in this case).

Most of the moto 'media' behave like excited school girls around the riders.
It's so refreshing to hear Paul Malin with the MXGPTV package, actually calling the race and adding some details worth mentioning. If nothing really happens, he stays quiet. Or he adds a small thing that gives the listener valuable information.
For example, TV coverage showed Cas Valk riding around in 4th and he mentioned that Valk is riding around with a lot of confindence due to his overall win at the Dutch Nationals (lots of GP riders attend these) a week ago, but that he now was under the weather a bit and would possibily fade at the end of the moto.
This gives listeners valuable info, instead of Will going on a rant of 2 mins about how some riders dad/team manager was called and that -surprisingly - last week they told the rider to 'just believe in himself and trust the process!' Week after week I hear the same nonsense information that makes me mute the races. Only JT for me is worth listening to (from this weekend's broadcast team)
For the 2nd WMX race there was a technical glitch where you couldn’t hear Main commentating. It was really refreshing just hearing the raw sounds of the bikes. I couldn’t listen like that all the time because Malin brings so much to the broadcast, unmatched imo.
No excuse for missing the last 2 laps with Webb going forward and Chase going backwards. They are the championship leaders, they should have eyes on them the entire race! It should be someones responsibility to be watching them and know whats going on.
I wonder if any of the moto media will ask questions to the broadcast team about how they would improve their performance for the next mud race??
Weege believes it was because mud and timing and scoring, yet they forget mud has been around just like timing and scoring forever. They either think people are dumb, or more than likely he simply can't say anything which is understandable. But things need changed
Damn I only watched the highlights and the commentary on that (despite it being after the race has finished so they know exactly who finished where) was shocking. And the highlight videos are about 4 minutes long.
If it wasn't for the results screen at the end (especially in 250SX) i'd have had no clue as to who finished where.
That's a real shame. This was a perfect opportunity for his small team/sponsors etc to get a shoutout on TV.
It does seem like they have no idea who anyone is unless they're on a factory team. Except Weege of course.
How many times did the broadcast replay the start pile up? I think I saw it at least 2 - 3 times & you could see the big # 75 LINVILLE facing the cameras. All of the eyes in the booth and nobody could put it together. He had even passed Hammaker who was down with him in the first corner with RJ, and contending for the red plate? It's a disservice to the team, and to Gage Mud race or not, they didn't give them the mentions that Cullin Park, Shane McElrath & teams got for their podium appearances.
Ricky isn't good at making split second calls, his brain isn't wired that way. It's not a diss, just seems he needs the T ball set up like on Title 24 with RV where he's more capable to carry conversation. Week in, week out, the same fumbling of words, in the cheap plaid suits you'd expect Tom Arnold from Roseanne to be wearing to church on Sunday.
NBC - Give us the option to have announcing or just the sounds of the stadium, and see which option is the more desirable one for your audience.
All I can say is everything y'all are saying. Worst coverage of the Vialle 6th to dead last incident. Then the entire 450 main was a joke. Never watching the championship points battle, then watching AP belly flop WHILE THE FKN RACE IS STILL GOING ON FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS with Webb gaining on everyone for 6 laps and then he's ahead of everyone at the line. Whoever the camera director is NEEDS TO BE FIRED. This horrible broadcasting has gone on long enough. This type of coverage is exactly why this sport can't grow.
Not many people bring up the point of cameras, but you hit the nail on the head. So many times, they show the lead rider and have the camera zoomed in on him, but the guy in 2nd place is ~2 sec behind, and we can't see him because it's so zoomed in on the leader. Unless the rider is truly on an island, the camera zoom should be wide enough to show the other riders in the same section. And then, when they do actually want to capture multiple riders simultaneously during a battle, they use the drone cam, which makes the riders look like ants. Watch races from the 2000s-early 2010s, and the camera angles caught the action so much better than they do now.
Maybe if every one just did not turn it on one night, maybe they would get the hint and fix it.
I was screaming at the tv to pull back!!
Pit Row
I actually have to agree this time, that was the absolute worst SX broadcast I have ever seen. Split screens, no id of race leaders, wrong id of who was leading the races, even the transponders were not working properly. I get it, mx is niche sport at best, and it will never be as popular as baseball anyhow. I never have understood how baseball plays televised games to mostly empty stadiums, yet pays players big bucks, and the broadcast quality is generally decent. And in SX, we have a sport with killer athletes that work very hard to be the best. My hats off the riders for racing in that race though, once again you proven that skills and attitude matter a lot when it comes to racing motorcycles in truly shitty track conditions. I likely wouldn't have completed one damn lap.
I'm not one to complain about the broadcast, nothing I can do about it, so no point in whining even though it is not great, but...
Leigh, for the love of god. Learn the rider's names.
I hate the split screen, they keep the tracker huge and the pictures of the racing are way to small. That and their horrible picture quality.
Webb literally jumped the finish line jump on screen and they didn’t even mention it. He was clearly sending it we have no clue how he went 6th to 3rd. Wild.
The broadcast could be better. We all know it. Coverage of our sport is the best it’s ever been but that has more to do with technological advances and not actually the product they are putting out. When comparing it to other sports, you kind of know when something is about to happen in stick and ball sports. In MX/SX you never really know.
With that said, the broadcast was hot garbage this weekend. I will say it seems the riders weren’t helping the situation, as they finished they were all instantly celebrating on the track while others were still paddling around on the last lap. I think I even saw them trying to move equipment at the end while someone is belly flopping in a puddle. It was chaotic.
Hey, here's an idea. Why not just make a sticky about how horrrrrrribulll and gawd awful the commentary, Ricky, Leigh and broadcast is. See, this way, these same 25 communication geniuses can go right to "their" thread to bitch and moan about the previous broadcast. It'll be like their own little club. This would stop the numerous threads each week from popping up and wasting bandwidth.
Bandwidth, lol. Hey bud, time to join us in the 21st century and get some high speed broadband.
Question- how did mookie make the main????????????????????
Hey, here’s an idea. How about we get a new producer that understands the sport and while we at it get RC and LD out of the booth? That way we don’t have to bitch each week pointing out glaring issues that make the broadcast garbage.
It's good for the industry to see a regular stream of novel threads rather than just controlled opposition in a sticky.
Lol...it actually is. And aren't you the smart one for noticing. Here's a scoop bud...bandwidth has more than one meaning.
I caught that when he said it. I could feel my eyes bugging out!
