According to their website, they only showed it in 5 theatres in Texas. 4 in the DFW and 1 in San Antonio. Since my oldest son works in San Antonio, we met last Tue night and saw it. There were 8 other people watching with us. I knew a lot about the Goodwin/Thompson case, but didn't really they were partners. Although it was good, I felt there could've been more. Hoping they eventually offer it on Blu-ray so I can watch it again.
What was said about Emig?
Thanks for the invite, dick
McGrath had some words about him being a dirty rider. There was also a piece about Emig telling people he wasn’t racing when the lights went out in Vegas (bunch of guys agreed to not race for safety concerns) then Emig changed his mind at the last minute to take the easy win. I’ve always liked Emig but was a little soured by it.

Pssh! I asked you bonehead! You wanted to watch some dumb soccer game instead.
Ok thanks. I remember that Vegas race and that was a cheap move by Emig to get a win. He was so desperate to beat McGrath back then. Some of their battles were epic.
Does anyone know if there is now online streaming site for this now paying or free?
It'll be available for streaming this Friday.
(Apple TV/iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, ...)
Had to pay $9.99 to buy this on Amazon last night but I must say it was worth every cent. Excellent movie for moto fans, especially us older guys. It contains a lot of old school history, outdoors as well as SX and storylines most of us have heard about but can never get enough. From late 1950’s GP’s to modern day Deegan they made a great summary of the sport. Anyone who hasn’t seen it should check it out
I watched it and it was really good then just kind of fizzled at the end. It seemed like they ran out of things to show.
The murder and conviction was huge.
It's on Tubi for free
The T2 director thought the XR sound was to similar to the sound of Arnolds Harley… thus the 2-stroke sound…
Whatever, sorry for the OT…
Watched it last weekend on Tubi. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Honestly, I thought was pretty good. The McGrath/Emig segment was cool and I really enjoyed the Ricky Johnson part near the end as I didn't know much about his career.
I had a very huge issue with the timeline of how it jumped around.
Is this the story of Mike Goodwin's success that fizzled into a murder? Is it the story of how great storylines that develop in motocross (ie Hannah/Glover - NOT A SX STORY) could be brought to fans in the stands compared to out in a field? Is it the success of the sport and the athletes who were successful and all time and the downside of it with the injury to Jimmy and the cost of what it took to be great.
Personally, i have seen much better documentaries that can take your average person and introduce them to a sport and have them understand and comprehend it. This did none of that.
Thanks for that info on tubi. I watched it last night. It was pretty good. I thought it was odd they played up the MC and Fro so much but only talked and showed Emig winning his first SX and the second one where he stopped MC's win streak of 13 in a row in 96. They didn't even mention that Emig beat MC for the SX title in 97.
The also showed clips of racing that didn't match what they were talking about or not even the same year but that's probably too critical on my part.
Overall it was a good production.
Also watched it on Tubi. Better than my expectations, but also agree with most of the other opinions on what couldve been done better. But, its at least something Id be willing to recommend to someone else.
Watched it on Tubi last night. It was good.
Watched it yesterday, I agree with everything you mention. I thought the RJ segment was very good. I knew all about his career, but never knew about the whole family part with his dad and all that. Kind of see him in a different light now.
It's definitely worth watching. Lots of good stuff, lots of re-hashed stuff, but still good.
Pit Row
My recollection is that Yamaha didn't let Emig a choice.
Full Documentary
Random comment. Does anyone else find the term “pay dirt” in sports becoming overused and a bit annoying? I always hear it in football too when announcers reference a person getting in the end zone and scoring
Any true supercross fan worth their weight in salt, knows who the founder/brainchild of the sport is, and where he sits right now!
I just watched it on Youtube. It was okay. But they didn't even dive into the Mickey Thompson thing for even 5 minutes... Didn't really mention RV, RD, Reed, Stewart, Tomac, Roczen....
It looks like they really just focused on whoever was keen to do an interview - and if you didn't, you were not featured. This "doco" is more of a promo than an attempt to document the creation of Supercross. The movie itself is kind of all over... would be hard to keep up for someone not familiar I think. With that said, I didn't know about the way Fro won his first race.
I'm reading all the stuff now about the Thompson family and Mike Goodwin. To be honest stuff like this;
That doesn't feel OK. This MXA article is another great read up. To be honest I didn't knew about this story.
If it's actually a story about Supercross, it makes sense that Feld and MX Sports would distance themselves from it.
Just watched it. Not that you care.. but A few of my option’s.
1 Rick J does a great job of communicating with authenticity. Enjoyed his part a lot. Didn’t know what the Dad stuff they talked about- Sounds harsh. Which is not a great way to grow up..Its’ no wonder why he was driven…
2 I burst out laughing at the Bob/ Broc part. Both are in their 60’s and both behave like they are 18 years old IMO. Guys…get over it!!! Bob… Really? Broc… I mean it was a long time ago. Can’t we all just get along?
Note: Hey Bobby - why were you not a Havoc's funeral? Your sister was there... really? Really?
Someone should put Bobby and Broc in a room together. Not alone.. with a mediator. Alone would go south- quick. I’d put money on Broc in a brawl. You both did OK in life. Just fine. Bobby fly’s around Idaho doing.. what he wants to do (correct pronouns?). Broc is still around the industry doing what he enjoys doing. And playing golf. Knock off the teenage rivalry in my opinion.
3 You could tell Jeremy Mcgrath really wanted to unload on Emig. But he held back. Emig on the other hand was like… Yea I was going to do anything to beat this guy.. No rules.
You would distance yourself from something you're involved in producing?
Ahhh, so not a documentary then.
