It's not the non North American voice, it's the bro speak.
Rogan does not do ‘deep’ interviews. He does long interviews but they aren’t deep, insightful, researched or intelligent. It’s like a group of dudes drinking around a fire for a few hours. It’s not deep bro.
Gypsy: asks question.
Guest: starts to answer.
Also Gypsy: answers question.

Nonsense. Could listen to DV, musquin, Anstie, etc for as long as they're willing to talk. Listen to different podcasts with Lewis all the time. It's not the accent, it's the personality that turns me off. I can't listen to gypsy. I've tried and the shtick is just too much.
Totally understand why some don't like matthes but for all his quirks I've never questioned whether he's being himself or not, and I guess that appeals to me more. Ton of good info as well. The ads don't bother me at all. Fast forward through the long one, barely hear the short ones mixed in. Beats paying for it.
I’m about to turn 24 and it’s too much for me. I much prefer The Whiskey Throttle Show’s long form interviews, especially since Ping is such a history nut. Gypsy has had some incredible interviews that I don’t see any other moto media getting out of people, lots of credit due there. Just not my style. I’m a big fan of radio shows so I have a huge spot for the main Pulp show, Steve really executes it well. Plus I’ve been listening to it for close to 10 years now.
Obviously he's being himself. Nobody puts on an act of being a miserable prick. That wouldn't make sense
i think you can see with both hosts who they were influenced by
Pulp was by Howard Stern, and Gypsy by Rogan, both shows have their place in the sport . both give us huge amoutns of free content,
Post of the day. Thanks for the laugh 🤣🤣🤣
Only problem with Pulp is that anything of the last 20 years Steve’s memory is horrendous, wrong mentions of results or champions being off by 3-4 years constantly. Makes it frustrating to listen to when he’s trying to compare results or careers
Gypsy and Pulp are not comparable
Lewis Phillips is a better interviewer than both.
I enjoy Kellen and Lewis's podcast more than Pulp or Gypsy
I love listening to Phil swear though for some reason, LOL.
I prefer the Whiskey Throttle format where he follows the timeline of their life and career.
I prefer Pulp…I especially like listening to the archived 1 on 1 interviews with old school riders like Emig, Chicken, Guy Cooper, Ezra Lusk, RJ, Wardy, Bailey, Stanton, Kehoe, Holland and many others. He seems to ask questions that I would ask. I can’t get into Gypsy…I’ve heard “Bro” way too many times already.
I have to admit, I can stomach the Gypsy show slightly better than I could a year ago. I think he’s shown some incremental improvement in not answering his questions for the guests himself first. He doesn’t seem to try to tell stories to parallel theirs quite as much, but it’s still there.
I’d probably listen to him more if he could just grow up a little and speak just a little bit more like an adult. I’m no prude with the language, but I only have a limited amount of ‘free’ time to listen to podcasts and I’m not going to be playing a Gypsy episode in my office and have people drop in while he needs to use 6 f-bombs just to get through a single sentence. But it’s his show, and if he needs to talk that way it’s certainly his prerogative.
Ping used to be my favorite of the moto shows, and I guess he still is but again with such limited listening time I’ve found other subjects taking the lion’s share of it. I probably look at Whiskey Throttle a couple of times a month to see if there’s a new interview of someone I’m interested in, but I don’t listen to really anything on the current racing on Whiskey Throttle.
I haven’t listened to much SML after Anton announced that he was leaving either. No real reason other than time.
Pit Row
I like them both. Why is it one or the other? The more content the better.
I feel like this is a generational divide question. I'd bet a large majority of Gen Xers & older would prefer Matthes, and a large majority of Millennials & younger would prefer Gypsy. Matthes is a bit more old-school and talks like an average dude his age would talk, so I can see his demographic relating to his style. He doesn't get nearly as deep and introspective as Gypsy... to my knowledge, he's a lot more surface-level and vanilla. Gypsy is like Joe Rogan... less of an interview and more of him trying to converse with people. He doesn't hide the fact that he wants to influence the conversation just as much as his guest, but that's okay to me - I think the best conversations come from the "question asker" opening themselves up first.
I'm a younger guy in my 20s and heavily prefer Gypsy to Matthes. Matthes has always given establishment vibes to me, which makes sense, since he literally is part of the SX/MX establishment. I understand the disdain for Gypsy's bro-speak, but I just don't care anymore - that's how 80% of guys under 40 talk these days, with the exception of Wall Street bankers and Neurosurgeons, maybe. To me, his attitude and purpose seems more good-faith than Matthes... there's something about Matthes that seems slimy to me, for some reason.
It's not BRO....it's Broiiiii.
Is the vote for audience size, or body fat percentage?
Gypsy is a foul mouth cuss-face.
Matthes is a left-wing wuss bag.
I'd go with RC and RV, and Stew over both of them.
Except that both like to blow riders.
Call Ping a tinfoil hat all you want. The side he is on, is turning out to be right about a lot of things. He is on the side that really is making America great again.
That's bullshit and you know it. How could a motocross fan not enjoy a conversation with someone with that much moto knowledge.
I’ve never listened to Gypsy. I stopped listening to pulp a while ago just because of how repetitive it is with Matthes and the guys he likes.
I still really enjoy the race recap shows and will listen to fly moto 60 even though callers are tough. His new thing with Blair isn’t bad.
Shouldn’t we see how this plays out first before we start calling it the right side of things?
Pulp in the car, Gypsy with a Pint.
Just listening to the latest UFC Unfiltered podcast with Jim Norton and Matt Serra, and Gypsy is on there.🙃
