I was gonna say, this is also the guy who convinced a fair number of people that putting spacers under the heads of their triple clamp pinch bolts would make a difference in front end feel (which is also provably false), so maybe it’s a logical conclusion to him that the fan base might be slightly uninformed.
Too much time to fill, they devolve into plain BS sometimes. At least that’s what I remember, I stopped listening to most of them a while back.
The stuff about bolt torque makes me laugh. I work with a group of structural and aerospace engineers, the one time I asked about how much 20-30% less fastener torque could change structural stiffness, I got a lecture on how using rotational torque to tighten bolts has a 30%+ inaccuracy due to thread surface condition, cleanliness and lubricants, and the only way torque settings could make a difference is if they were just past finger tight. Fastener stretch is the best way to measure clamping force.
Keefer has good baseline suspension settings though. MXA does as well.
Everyone has an opinion but lot's on here could learn about taking the high road. Remember when you had to wait for a magazine once a month?
Right? I get everyone being annoyed. But 99% of people laugh there ass off at Keefer and enjoy his and Weege’s content.
They make 1 mistake, push the wrong button, 1 slight miscalculation in the moment rambling about motocross, and boom, execute him. Crazy lol

You really think 99% of people are on board and laugh at Keefer and his creepy after-dark-everything-is-sexual stuff? Pay attention man, the vast majority think that stuff is super cringey. And I tend to like Keefer most of the time...
I think both the majority of people commenting in the thread and the "in" group of media members do a lot of underestimating.
Us, underestimating just how many truly casual fans tune in occasionally or just catch snippets on social media. Like they say, just look at the comments on various social media and its pretty obvious.
Them, knowing how many of those people there are, underestimating how many sane, competent people are watching/listening, and hate being lumped in with the masses.
There's also probably a lot of people who aren't in the group they think they're in.
"Fastener stretch is the best way to measure clamping force."
It was always fun to see some people's reactions to the final tightening procedure for things like these YZF head bolts. There would be this dumbfounded look, a long pause and then... "But what do I set the wrench to?", or something similar. 😄
I don't listen to the after dark stuff, don't care for the d and r comments and all that and it probably does more harm than good but do appreciate most of what he does.
It’s not that serious. Also if you actually listened to half the dipshits that call into pulp you wouldn’t be surprised that Keefer thinks they don’t know what a tow is.
Was also going to mention all the people that email him constantly asking questions, he might have a better idea of the average rider than we do…
Keefer is good people, he puts a lot of content out there for free.
Billy at Luxon is also good people, makes fantastic products and puts tons of content out there for us for free.
Keefer after dark ain’t your thing? Don’t listen/turn off the pod.
Are these guys hitting the mark 100% of the time? Nope. I took it like he wanted Phil to expand/generate conversation on the subject, but again I’m listening for the content/entertainment, not to find something to be offended about 🤷🏻♂️
I think most people don't like being assumed they are stupid or that they are not capable of understanding the most elementary of things. Even if it is true. The major mx/sx media folks are getting more and more comfortable doing this. It is that simple.
Are you a "casual fan" or an "avid fan"?
A lot of wood still left to chop when you have a TOW in Clean air! In a must situation .
Like someone else said, I think many are underestimating just how few of us actually pay attention to and know what stuff like that means. There may be X amount of us on here that are so deep into it we understand all of this stuff, but for every one of us there are probably 90-100 people that doesn’t understand this type of stuff. One thing I have learned over the years of riding and mostly having friends that ride is that I was the minority in how deep into this stuff I always have been.
To the people who tune in every pulpmx podcast he isn't talking to you, he's talking to casual audience as a whole and probably to the people who don't know pulp exists.
But hey let's get angry.
And what I mean by that is....
I appreciate the effort. Clutch move.
Are you serious? That insulted you? And you race? I don't know man, seems pretty minor. If you know what he was talking about, cool. If someone didn't, it got explained. No biggie. There are a lot more important things you could be insulted by.
Pit Row
Thanks, man. Geesh
You pay attention “man”, and watch who you’re talking to.
Watch who I'm talking to? Ok lol
Your last sentence is spot on, not just for mx but for society as a whole.
Note: he doesn't use "most people don't understand", even though he is more knowledgable than the average consumer and some testers. He simply explained the concept. Also note: dude sells KTM axle blocks and could easily build them to feed into this marketing narrative, but is standing on engineering principle.
Yeah I felt that.
Kinda insulting my intelligence.
There are better guests than Keefer.
Flip side- I can’t get enough of Philthy!
WE ARENT GETTING NEW FANS that watch one race where they explain what a tow is and has a “AHHA” moment like holy shit they dumbed it down so much I’m going to go buy a bike on Monday..
Restaurants would rather have the same football game playing on four tvs than put moto on.
Football, hockey, basketball etc doesn’t dumb down or explain shit. Watch it and figure it out.
I also hate to say it but the second Will comes on everyone thinks they’re in Australia and I get the tv muted and remote taken away.
We’re not a sport, we’re a show!
I’ve also noticed if you really want his opinion on a particular bike you have to wait until it is the previous generation. I can’t think of a specific example off the top of my head but there have been a few times where he will say bike so and so is good. That is until a new gen bike comes out then it’s oh that previous generation was shit and blew up all the time.
This logic is ridiculous when used for the broadcast as well. So back when we had magazines no one would critique the magazine? And if on the rarest occasion they did someone would come along and say “hey just be happy, we used to never have magazines and use cave drawings to pass along our information!”
“Queefer” lmao he is cringy as hell.
I think its "insulting" to the listener base of a "core" moto show to assume they don't know basic things about the topic that is probably the most prevalent thing in their lives, yes.
For the record, I like keefer. He is helpful with bike setup stuff and i've listened to a number of his pods, this in particular though just caught my attention bc he repeated it multiple times in a short span of time and it comes of as elitist and extremely cringey. He has a tendency to do this, I've caught it before.
I think it is insulting to the “core” motorcycle riders. But the core is far and I mean FAR from the majority. The majority will learn from what he is saying and without him clarifying it they wouldn’t know what he means.
