Yeah sort of, 52hp and 20% regen got me about 18-20 minutes of proper ride time. Then it was at 20% and the light came on, basically once it's at 20% it's time to go home the battery just disappears and power drops dramatically. This is how it reacts on sand, not sure if it would do the same on harder terrain.
I will keep trying more things and different settings to see if I can get it any better. Possibly try different gearing and scoop tyre aswell.
Today I just went for a cruise around my farm. A mixture of slow riding through trees and a bit of open faster stuff on tracks, all harder terrain. I used 50% battery and got about 40mins of ride time. It just shows how much of a difference terrain and speed make.
I would try a scoop tire if you haven’t it may help some. If you get better traction you may reduce the speed at which the motor is turning by a measureable factor. Less motor speed /more drive = less heat.
Sorry for confusion, I meant I’ve never had the issue you described with the light even when I’m riding sand moto.
I completely agree with you, I truly don’t understand why everyone has such different experiences.
I weigh 155lbs.
Sounds like your battery or some of the cells are failing and at 20% (capacity less in some individual cells) those generate excessive heat.
Have no idea if Stark can remote check or monitor that but I would request battery warranty.
Also, send Stark the link to this thread to get Starks attention etc to help resolve the issue via battery warranty.

or more traction, more load on the motor, more current draw, more heat!
I contacted stark straight away and they were actually pretty quick to get back to me, i posted there reply earlier on in this thread. But yes they can remotely check the bike and they told me there was no issues with the bike and it is just the limitations of the bike in my conditions.
It could definitely go either way or make no difference at all ha ha, but definitely worth a try. I have a new mx14 in my shed and I'll need to swap out the crappy stock tubes soon so may aswell give it a try.
I think I'll try a 13 tooth front sprocket first, apparently they are the same as ktm so I may even have one lying around.
This is how I think it would go. We only burn up motors when they're overloaded.
Did you even read his post? Lmfao dumb fuck
Ummmmm nope.
Super Enduro and Endurocross is not Hard Enduro.
Check out Romainiacs or Sea To Sky or Erzberg or Silver Kings etc. etc. etc. and let me know how many top guys are on 4 strokes. I’ll save you some time….none.
Johnny Walker is gonna give a few Hard Enduros a go next year. It’ll be cool to see.
Either way, sorry for the derail, I was just being a smart ass.
Hope the gearing helps.
I was talking with a friend that used to build electric vehicles at the hobby level. And he was saying that he was able to get more range from a scooter he made by having 3 speeds so the motor was in the most efficient rpm/load for battery life. I don't remember the specifics . But at a certain RPM and load you draw less power than other mixes of RPM /load. . It made me wonder if it was like You would ride a 2 stroke to stay in the peak power. But instead Your staying in the peak efficiency. I was starting to wonder if younger riders may develop their riding style to extend the range at some point .
There was also a video that Jay leno did with one of the Nitrocross Electric rally cars and they explained why they had a 3 speed trans in them. They did it to avoid spinning the motors faster . They need more top speed than a dirt bike. But some of what they explained would relate to battery and current draw. Might be worth looking up and watching to help guide the gearing. Or look into what the motor the Varg has and find out what combo of load and RPM it uses the least current/amps whatever.
Whatever the results , please post back here. I'm sure it will help somebody. I know that when I get an Electric MX bike, I'll want to know how I can help my range out. Being as big as I am.
Question from an interesting potential buyer. You get about 20 mins hard riding out of the bike in the sand & head home for a recharge.
How long does it take to charge the battery before you can do your second moto?
Two strokes love the sand.
Until the rads pack up but yeah. Something I cherish in an MX bike.
At the highest charge rate i was getting around 22% recharge every 30 minutes. So will take a little over 2 hrs for a full recharge.
Yeah we still have a lot to learn about electric. My thoughts are that load is what kills battery's and electric equipment. So by gearing it down yes the motor will have to spin faster but maybe with less load. But I'm also no electric wizard so I could be completely wrong 🤣
Rode mine today at a local sand desert track. I'm no expert, maybe slower b class on a good day. Started the day at 100% and finished with 7% Got about 1hr 40mins of ride time before needing a charge. I can see an A class rider especially on sand go through battery pretty quick but I'd still think it would last atleast 30 mins. For a fast A class or pro rider this is not the bike unless you want to be charging all the time.
And this was all in 42hp with 25% regen.
Riding on hard pack will decrease load!
You're living the dream, with you're own private track, I'm sure I'm not the only person who is jealous.

Thanks for sharing, I think the more people that share there real world experience the better we all wil be.
I would actually be happy with 30 mins of proper ride time. I think the type of sand makes a massive difference, if I run mine at 40hp it doesn't have enough power to pull me through the sand. Me being heavier also doesn't help, 50hp is the minimum I can get away with. The bike is better to ride for me closer to 60hp but that just kills the battery even quicker and over heats it.
I am very lucky to have what I have and I definitely don't take it for granted.
Might have to build myself a hardpack track ha ha.
When there is little traction you know like in sand does having max power help you get more traction or just wheel spin? or is it all just battery life burnt for nothing?
I can see middle-ground between both of your comments.
Also, I’d be inclined to play around with lower settings to see how I could get longer Motos at your track.
And comparing lap times between them.
If changing the gearing isn't causing you to run significantly higher rpms, then going down a tooth in the front should decrease load slightly. This might help with heat but might not help with battery discharge rate. Keep us posted on the results.
I may be wrong but the way electric motors build torque and respond to load I don't see small gearing changes being impactful.
if you are overheating your stark there is something wrong with it, especially if doing so in 10 mins. I ride my stark in the 60hp setting and about 40 of my 50 hours ive put on it are on a sand track. about as sandy as it gets.
I have never overheated my stark, my 23 YZ450f on the other hand on the same exact track overheats on a regular basis during summer.
Have you read how to bleed the cooling system in the manual and done it?
I agree that it sounds like something is wrong but stark have logged into my bike and are telling me there is nothing wrong. I'm not sure if i believe them but I'm also not sure what else to do.
I've been doing alot of research online and have now found several scenarios of people having the very same issues as me and stark are also telling them that it is the limitations of the bike.
I would like to hear a bit more about the specifics of your riding as I think this makes all the difference. I'm not saying you don't ride sand but I've realised now everyone's idea of what sand is varies alot ha ha. Also the riders weight makes a massive difference as does average and top speed of the track you riding.
You haven't ridden a sand track, until you've ridden a Western Australian sand track, the sand is fine grain, deep, and power sucking.
Yeah I have read up on this. The cooling system only cools the powertrain not the battery and I am only getting overheating of my battery. Form what I can gather if the cooling system is not bleed properly I will be getting fan issue alarms.
Your first question about more hp in the sand kinda can do both. I want to experiment with higher hp settings and trying to be very very smooth on the throttle to minimise wheel spin and see how this goes. As I am a bit bigger guy anything under 50hp seems pretty gutless to me and it feels like the throttle is just wide open all the time. I can see the 50hp setting being pretty decent on harder dirt though.
