Fan love..
it appears there’s not a lot of love from fans of the SMX championship.
Statements I’ve read on vital today without looking too hard;
”This isn’t a real championship, so money is about the only thing worth hyping up about it.”
”over hyped series of 3 events to produce another championship which is a joke”
“They really need to stop making this sound like it’s an equal c-ship to SX/MX”
“it's still the third place title and always will be.”
So what is the general consensus on the SMX?
Are we pumped for it? Or if it went away, would we miss it?
What are the positives to it?
What are the negatives to it?
It was a lot of fun to watch.
Glad to see guys make some decent coin.
It was way overhyped.
It’s in no way a world championship.
Thought it was great- forced guys to come back at the end of the year (such as Webb and Eli) who would have otherwise sat out the rest of the year.
Allowed guys to make some good money.
The negative comments in here are just noise..
I hate when there is more racing to watch.
The best thing about SMX is that more guys race the nationals

People bitch way too much. It's basically tree more Monstercups but with every rider instead of half of the field, how can that be bad in any way? Racing was fun to watch, altough maybe the tracks and dirt could be a bit better next time? Seemed like riders absolutely hated the dirt last weekend. Maybe also figure out and plan how to cover up those concrete walls. Aside from that I love more racing, no matter what.
Anyways, I don't care too much if they call it a world championship. We all know the real "world championship" starts in a month from now.
There was so much love AC almost bust into tears...
It was good. I definitely enjoyed it.
I enjoyed it. It was nice to have a night race again. Great racing.
Only complaint is the tracks seem kind of ghetto for how much money is on the line. Last year was better. The Coliseum and the Chicago track especially from last year seemed to work better.
After 2 years, in no way has it been any better than a 12th national and monster cup in the off season. Seems to just lead to more burnout and injuries.
Gave me a new guy to watch in the 250's P Brown
As a fan, I am good with taking a break after the outdoors, enjoying fall, and delaying my gratification until MXON.
There are already enough rounds of starterdeathcross for me to get my fix.
We have yet to see the impact zero off-season will have long term on the athletes. Burn out and injuries have never been an issue in the past so I’m sure the impact will be minimal.
Its not only vital members who complain about smx. Several pros have openly said they're not huge fans of the format, and I have yet to hear anyone of them express how much they love SMX. Its like "yeah whatever, not great, anyways Im here for the money". Tracks this year have been piss poor, ask the pro riders about last week you wont find a single one who says something positive about it.
The argument that it's good to see riders returning at the end of the year to race outdoors in order to qualify for the playoffs says more about how much we enjoy watching them on the nationals, rather than on one-lined hybrid tracks.
Do fans really care that the riders are earning good money??
Makes no difference to me. Not once when I’m watching Moto am I thinking about how grateful I am that they’re earning well.
That’s a perspective I can’t get my head around if I’m honest.
Dig the tracks.... SX should be like this every week....not the lame cookie cutter tracks. That said, The L.A. Coliseum should be the finale location....period. The points system for SMX is stupid.
Same problems plague SMX as SX..... blathering JT and Shrill....horrible/amateur production (Bondo et al).
Ain't no fun watching the same people win week after week....I don't care who it is.
Riders (other than the top 3-4) just putting in their time.
when i heard Jason Thomas saying this is the biggest championship in the world, i guess it says it all...........
just another imposed world championship of united states.......this one because of the scare Feld/promotocross got from the aussies putting out an try at a world sx series......
so, they have an enemy, they called it world championship and they put out a little of the fortune they make every year on prize money...........instant success in usa......
Live too, not a highly edited version that was on TV twice a year and before VCR and DVR technology.
The only true thing you said was what JT said....
I was speaking for myself and yeah, I think the purse money should be significant.
Pit Row
The more racing i can see the happier i am.
BUT… For me this is just another Monster energy cup, and that’s fine. IF they could treat it that way.
But when i have to hear Weege and RC blabber about this the whole fucking year during SX and MX i just become anti to the product.
The over-selling of a ”world championship” in a sport that only exist for 3 rounds in one country in the world and that ”sport” is two years old and in some strange way managed to get a world championship status the first year it was held?.
i am fan fan on the concept around the SMX tracks when they are built the proper way on good dirt. I think that the two first rounds last year were good tracks. Coluseum was decent but in my eyes it was more or less a SX track without whoops.
I don’t want the SMX to go away, but can we at least start to treat it like the money paying jippo race it is and don’t push the narative of a world championship on us real fans.
I don’t know how long they can push the ”winner take all” bs before the average or new fan realize that with the current points system it will be the same every year. It just becomes really hollow.
I actually do like this series, but they need to look into the points just a bit further to me. Last night we could have seen a guy like Deegan go 5 for 5 in the first 5 motos and then one win by Vialle with I think a 3rd or 4th from Deegan would have been enough for Vialle to win the series. I like the progression of points, but maybe just don't have it ramp up quite as much as it does.
Get rid of the 3 SMX playoffs.
Add 2 races (1 to SX and 1 to MX)
Make 4 rounds (2 in each) some kind of important SMX bonus rounds that has to have special combined tracks with a Grand National Champion from combined points.
So outdoor MX tracks have to add SX obstacles and SX has to add MX obstacles (maybe stadiums that go outside or Daytona/Atlanta speedway styles).
I like smx but I think the way it’s currently setup isn’t good for the longevity of the athletes. As much as I love having more races to watch, it’s a lot more wear and tear on these guys physically and mentally, and it will lead to burning out and/or earlier retirements IMO. I think it would be better if they cut out a national and 2 sx races to allow these guys a more effective and enjoyable off season
Correct me if i’m wrong, but more guys have gotten/reagrivated injuries in smx than in sx and mx combined i think.
Every one of the Tracks have been challenging in different ways.
Vegas looked like more of a outdoors suspension set up.
2024 has been a brutal injury season all year. Look at How many were coming back from injury at the 1st playoff.
I’m not a fan of the points system either.
Kinda ‘winner takes all’ on the last round seems silly. Why not just run one round??
Three equal points paying rounds would be better.
I guess that’s the largest problem people have with this 3 race series where it’s to much man-made to create the perfect storm to the point that it just feels fake.
I think they will make it better each year, lets give them a chance to tweak it and it will get better. Few positive things.
1. More riders ride MX and that is huge.
2. Big money for riders and not just first place.
2. Good for the TV package.
4. Work for the announcers.
5. Jett can buy another car, LOL
I feel you on this, but this whole thing is based on what’s best for the promoter, who makes money on ticket sales and tv ads/revenue. So more events = more revenue. And in the past, when a dominant rider clinched the title early, fewer fans bought tickets to the final round(s). Making an early title win impossible was job one for the new points system.
I see your point..👍🏻
