First winning team = DeCoster
Who told you that Roger picked the team? You qualify for the team by winning or or close in each series. If those guys can't or won't go...you go down the list. The committee picks the best from the YES responses. At most, Roger makes the actual phone call saying, "You're in".
I will say...this would make a damn fine little show. Behind the scenes look at the committee's decisions. Video of riders/family reactions to getting the call. Video of those who got the call and declined.
I'm so progressive. 🙃
Zach Osborne for USA team manager. I've been saying it for years.
He would be great IMO.

Say what you want about Roger and his bias but he just put Coop on the team whom he fired last summer
If Webb said no it would have been really interesting. We might have had to send Beaumer or ?? Phil?
Brad was on the team. That doesn’t make it his team. He was just already in Europe with Pomeroy and knew the ropes over there.
This all day long. Folks in this thread are making up a bunch of crap without any real meat behind it.
Ha Roger doesn’t get the credit for Webb going. His hands were tied there was no one else to ask.
You can debate and discuss for hours, you can undoubtedly list some fine candidates, and some people simply may not like him as a person. However, if there was a normal interview process Roger would still get the job because he is the most qualified candidate available (knowledge, ability to plan and execute and possibly most important....his extensive list of European contacts). When Roger walks into a room people take notice....he still is the man!
Admittedly, at some point in the future he may not be the most qualified candidate. Yes, the AMA needs a succession plan (assuming one is not already in place).
Ryder D, Brown, RJ, JuJu. Lots of KTM guys could have asked
Roger did pick the team until somewhat recently. The committee was formed within the last 5 years or so.
You do realize that there is a committee that choses the team, not Roger...
I gave no opinion either way....I just stated a fact...
This thread is full of the silliest assumptions or straight up wrong shit and most things USA-MXON in here are waaaay off the rails. While I'm responding to lappedrider, a friend, I'll state the following to the Vital gallery...
To assume why or how Kawasaki (KMC, USA) got to the point that they aren't supporting/sending their riders to the MXON in 2024 based on the gossip from back in the day when so-n-so said he heard from his sister-in-law's baby cousin Traci...all the while I;ve never heard nor seen language to that end that had shit to do with "because Roger is the Team Mgr...blah, blah, blah...".
To think you understand why a rider doesn't go public with his injuries during his racing season...and then you can't believe he has an injury when he owns up to it...well, we'll leave that out there for the social-media gossipers. A question while we're here: how long does it take for a bone to heal and for a fastener hole to close in bone? Any orthopedic surgeons in the house?
Then there's the complete A-Holes that actually talked shit on AP...? WTF? HOW do you talk shit on that dude? Did he bang your girlfriend that time he beat you on his YZ 125 back in the day? Were you not present when he took 3rd in the AMA Motocross Nationals? Do you not think the 2nd Best U.S. Rider in the Nationals should be chosen...? Did you not get the memo from Eli? Or is it that you're just an AP hatin' biotch??? Even with his injury, I hope he's able to do it...because, HE WANTS TO. The dude is just a good dude that rides a dirt bike awfully damn fast and seems to smile a helluva lot while he's doing it. Another thing, I truly love seeing a dude that OBVIOUSLY appreciates where he's at in life and the opportunities he's been given. I really like that. Ever notice that we don;t value that enough these days?
Then there's the Roger's too old bullshit...wt-actual-f? Have you talked to the man? He's still quite up to the job and he loves doing it...so, again...WTF? Besides, there are quite a few other people involved and there's plenty of "input" from others when it comes to rider selection. But, no worries...it's just like the AP thing to me..."Some men you just can't reach" and that's obvious when this subject comes up every year. EVERY...YEAR.
The lack of actual real knowledge, understanding and just straight-up "intellect" in some of these MXON discussions is simply a reminder...that...
This is the internet.
But, I digress. 🤣
AP has demonstrated his abilities at this race amply.
There would be a conflict with teams not running Dunlops!
"so theres that" could reasonably be construed as an opinion.
Pit Row
Drag the Dungey chassis out the shed. That thing won 4 sx championships in a row...
And even at Rogers age he can still smoke 90 or more % of us on a race track.
RD MX des Nations Manager Record = 21 Team Manager Wins in 41 attempts (Team USA won 23 times in 43 attempts)
RD Trophy des Nations Manager Record = 4 Team Manager Wins in 4 attempts
(Team USA won the last 4 Trophy championships before the combined classes in 1985)
RD MX des Nations Race Record = 6 Wins with Team Belgium in 11 attempts
RD Trophy des Nations Race Record = 10 wins with Team Belgium in 12 attempts
So Roger is the losingest manager in team USA history? So even if he may be a reason some teams or riders do not compete and every year come fall the team is a complete cluster fuck he stays? Nobody is an alternative? Say he is competent, he is stillbnot the proper or appropriate choice for many who wish to compete.
Damn! You are either throwing out some stink bait, or just plain dumb.
DC went on record with the Kawasaki/Roger thing in the midst of last year's annual MXdN debacle. From Racerhead:
Kawasaki seems to have reached a point where they are not sending anyone either, despite both Jason Anderson and Adam Cianciarulo both being healthy, as well as the 250 riders on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad. Kawasaki's problem appears to be threefold: the FIM, the cost of sending their riders and mechanics and engineers, and what appears to be some reluctance with working so closely with Team USA Manager Roger De Coster. De Coster of course runs the KTM North America racing group, which Kawasaki competes against every weekend in AMA Supercross and Motocross and now SuperMotocross.

IMHO...Kawasaki needs to grow the hell up. They come off as immature whiney babies by refusing to work with RD simply because he's with KTM...if that's indeed their hangup. I doubt seriously that Roger is at all interested in stealing ideas from Kawasaki, especially seeing as how KTM has been handing them their asses for the last few seasons.
Hey bud, no disrespect to you but please adjust the title to something like, Roger D is closing in on the greener pastures or something like that. He is a damn Legend who has steered the USA to countless MXoNs titles.
Perhaps, but part of being a leader is getting all kinds of different people with all kinds of different interests united around a common goal. Not everyone is going to be easy to get in the boat which is what makes a good leader a good leader.
Roger does a good job. BUT for sure they need someone else without any conflict of interests.
Thanks man! Where did you find that?
Big DeCoster fan and grateful for everything he's done, but it's time for some fresh ideas.
That being said, I can easily imagine some neutral party coming in and not having the juice to get anything done and end up getting bullied by the factories.
