I don’t mind AP being on the team whatsoever but the whole argument that AP is a good mud rider is blown way out of proportion. I think he’s had one good mud race since moving to the 450 class. “Good race” is relative to his competition of course but how many muddy races have we had and he still doesn’t have a moto win?
He was good in the mud against his competitors when he was in the 250 class but he was also just better than them when it was dry as well.

Tomac is the best USA mud rider...still. Barcia probably 2nd.
He did win a muddy San Diego SX this year.
But yeah, I think it's a better representation to say that he's fine in the mud where some guys can't ride it at all...
Tomac turned down the MXdN in 2016 and 2017. Raced it in 2018 when it was held in the U.S. and then didn't race it again until 2022 when it was again held in the US, and asked not be considered for 2024.
Jeff Stanton, Damon Bradshaw, Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, and others have all turned it down. Yet a kid two seasons into his career is getting shit on by keyboard warriors even though last year Star explicitly said that they were not going to send their riders.
This year, I'm sure Star, along with Haiden, are weighing out whether it's the right decision. Either way, it's Haiden's career, Star's money, and their choice to make.
None of those riders you mentioned were yapping on like a Chihuahua about being the American boy though.

i think eli is being a gentleman here. he knows AP really wants to go. chase probably going as well. so him stepping out gives AP and opening to fill without any conroversy. ET3 probably wants to do some hunting as the timing usually coincides with elk tags and such...and with how many races there is its is only breathing room to get it done. AP is pumped about it. i say let him go and do it. a sexton, plessinger and deegan or chance team is pretty damn talented team. i have no regrets for that lineup. its a tough race but its tough for all the teams. i want our guys to want to be there.
