Respect for jeffrey speaking out. Riders union is a start i would say.
Its baffles me that the riders get no prize money, they put on a show and risk their lives and get zero prize money . Total Bullshit!

I didn't like the young, arrogant Herlings but the older, mature version is making me a fan. The way money is sucked out of MXGP without ever getting put back into things like safety (never mind prize money) is a scandal - and has been for far too long.
I believe Motocross Action has been saying all of this for YEARS!!
I would love to see Herlings come over and do a season of MX here. I know he may not be the Herlings of a few years ago, but he is still damn fast and a joy to watch ride.
Heck yes it would be great to get him and Tomac and Roczen all on the track together before they all hang it up.

It does seem that with Jeffrey nearing the end of his career he's embracing everything a lot more. His post race comments are a lot different this year.
Few things here to me. Herlings keeps referring to all this money the promoters make and don’t invest back into the series.
- So, how does Herlings know how much or how little the promoter makes. So without that knowledge he is just assuming/speculating. Maybe they are already putting as much as they can afford to back into it.
- Next, why form a union, if you don’t like the series being promoted the way it is, go race another series. Or choose a different career path.
- Last, you have all these comments about how to make it better. Great, it’s easy to do nothing and point fingers from the outside at what you think you see, but there is also a lot you don’t see. With that being said, Herlings if you think you can do it better, put your boots on and start your own series to compete with MXGP. Re-invest “all the money people assume you made” into a great mx series and support the riders behind you.
No one is holding a gun to his head. He could go join a labor union tomorrow and make an honest living.

The "millionaire motorcycle racer" is using his profile to draw attention to the guys who aren't millionaire motorcycle racers and how they're not being looked after - either safety or reward for their efforts.
"Nobody is holding a gun to rider's heads to ride" has also been Luongos' attitude to anyone who complains for years, and is the reason why there's often half empty grids and world class riders are staying in national series, diluting the field in MXGP. Are you saying you're cool with that and riders should either shut up or leave.?
Maybe if Jeff stops bitching so much he could be as fast as Tim and Jorge again…doubtful though, that pace usually ends in disaster for him

Yeah I understand being a professional athlete and getting paid to "do what you love" is a very rare and privileged life to have, BUT that doesn't mean it's not incredibly hard work with a lot of pressure.
He's made his millions, so the fact he's speaking out should say something about who he is and how he apparently wants to improve the sport that's made him those millions.
People will find a reason to bitch about ANYTHING.
The way he talked about Jett and how happy he is that Prado is gone aswell next year, I doubt you will ever see him in the US (even if that was his original pre retirement plan). It would be sweet, but I don't see it anymore.

A point that was lost on many in the LACR thread.
In short, signing a waiver is not a get-out-of-jail-free card for track owners. Tracks actually are culpable when negligence can be shown on their part. The response should be for everyone from riders to promoters and track owners to work together to eliminate unnecessary dangers beyond what is already assumed when riding on a track.
He chose the path he's on, speaking out towards the end may not have the weight he hopes. Union has been the great fantasy since the 80s.
The incident with Van Donnick was just disgusting.
David Loungo has still not addressed the fact that Louis Vosters had to come up with cash in order to get a rider who is not even on his team treated for a broken leg at the opening round in Argentina.
For the promoter not to have adequate medical resources pre arranged in whatever country they are racing in is just shameful.

.. then MXGP would have a seriously problem. I probably forgot a few, just writing this up quickly. But thanks to these men, most of these riders are behind the gate. Yes, they have sponsors and factory support. But they have poured a LOT of money in the sport for years.

Man, tough crowd here on this one.
Luongo is a crook, and I’ll happily support any rider with the balls to stand up to him. Unfortunately it’s hard to see the teams/riders uniting until something horrible (death/paralysis or other severe injury as a result of negligence) happens. Hopefully soon there will be a lot of backlash against the Luongo mafia, but I’m not holding my breath
