Something HAS to change with these tracks

First of all 450 strokes.

The tracks are far more cookie cutter these days I'm assuming this is to make the racing closer and saving dirt which it does both.

If you make the track harder it will only separate the best guys from the pack like the mid 2000s

So, let them separate. Regardless, the tracks need a massive injection of creativity. It's not like every single track needs to be a massive technical challenge, but at least change it up! Got 17 rounds to play with it.

And fix the damn whoops.

Nobody wants to just say it out loud, but the same things that make tracks entertaining and give the best riders a chance to separate themselves are the things that make them more dangerous. Lately it seems the decision makers are preferring tracks that give less of all of the above and I'm not sure it's actually made anyone happy, or safer. Would love to see an anonymous survey of riders to see what they actually want. They seem to say a lot of contradictory things on this but they're the only ones with real skin in the game.

I would like to see that too, but people seem to think that close racing is key on here as a whole, a harder track will only make Jett more dominant again many on here don't want to see that type of domination.

It would be nice if they stuck with 180 bow turns after the whoops and after the longest rhythm lane so the riders can actually make passes.

All baseball stadiums or speedways, no more football "arenas". Tracks are all the same and boring. Change up the spacing, make a triple 85 feet one week, 65 feet the next. Or make odd spacings for Rhythms, some steep faces, some flat, get rid of press day, local media isnt bringing anyone into the stands, its just ends up being extra laps and wear and tear on track. Do 1 free practice and 1 times qualifying and short LCQ for those outside top 36.

One thing I was thinking the other day was why couldnt we have a sand sx track. Ppl love sand tracks and its a nice change so we could try it in sx. It was done before in europe where dungey and herlings raced the european smx cup race and it was badass! Look at all of the mx style obstacles on an indoor sand track, it worked great. Just goes to show theres more options out there.

That is a very nice track! Is that in a soccer stadium?

Make Supercross Great Again!!  Please see tracks from 1998-2010 and replicate.  These new ones are just way too cookie cutter.  They tamed them down and guess what same amount of dudes crashing and getting hurt.

There's no excuse for copy+paste tracks like what was shown on the last page, especially within the same season. That's just laziness and lack of creativity.

Feld are literally circus promoters. Look up their company and history.

Yup.

SX is literally a circus show now.  This is what "Growing the sport" is going to bring more of.    There have been a few great moments this season, but all in all, the sport isn't even close to what it once was.

Can't wait for Feld to start including ice and dinosaurs on the track!

Are the standardised track obstacles really about rider safety? Keeping in mind that these are the best supercross riders in the world.
Or is it more about making it more efficient for Feld and the track builders, i.e. profits…"

Well when you have the top 10 riders all on the same second and hardly anyone crashes this is what you get.

Unless I missed some action, I believe there was a total of TWO passes for the lead in Philly. A 3 hr broadcast and 2 passes for the lead, agreed something has to change

Philly was terrible for passing but number of passes for the lead is a terrible metric; if the fastest guy is in the lead he isn’t going to be passed without making a mistake.

Plenty of legit critiques like Vialle and Deegan cut through the pack, making a ton of passes, but it definitely hung them up longer than normal. Justin Cooper spent like 90% of the main trying to get past Benny, who he was clearly faster than but definitely couldn’t muscle out the way. Sexton made his way forward, but was clearly being held up and had to wait to pounce on a mistake.

Have they ever tried to move the start? What if they put it in these locations, might open up for some different layouts. Theres a lot they could do I think to make changes.

been saying it for years: racing in the '90s was better cause A. the bikes didn't have 900 horsepower and B. the tracks did not use standardized obstacles. half the time the 125 guys couldn't even make the triple! rhythm sections were tough to sort out as the jumps were randomly placed and the best of the best would find a fast line through them. the whoops would shake your teeth out.

The "standardization" of the obstacles has crushed the racing as every rider is used to the obstacles and knows the fast way through the rhythms. and agreed on removing press day - that's just bonus practice time for a select few.

450 heat 1 - Jett from last to 4th in six minutes.

450 heat 2 - Chase from last to 6th in six minutes.

How is that difficult to pass?

You’re interpreting those situations the wrong way.  If those guys were clearly faster they’d find a way around.  When they have a slight speed advantage is when the passing becomes difficult, regardless of track design.

Chase passed Webb on lap 15.  The race ended on lap 24.  On the final lap, before Webb crashed, Sexton only managed to put a 2.5 second gap on Webb, in nine laps.  Was he faster?  Yes, but not by much.

Two 180 bowl turns linked by a single triple is a waste of floor space.  Only two people I've seen passing in a section like that may have been Trey Canard and James Stewart in their early massive scrubbing days.

How much dirt was used in 2000 vs 2009 vs 2024. That should be an easy question for media to ask and for Feld or track crew to answer.

I think this graphic ( the list of entertainment events feld controls ) is the reason why SX is the way it is .

Feld are only in it for the money - minimize investment, maximize profit. Events run by accountants. As can be seen here it could be ice skating elephants or dirt bike racers it’s all the same to them because it’s all about the bottom line.

In the 450 race the fastest guy started at the front.  What do you expect?

As mentioned above using lead passes as a metric is a terrible way to measure the racing.  Should they start in reverse qualifying order?  That will guarantee some passing.

It's funny because the tracks for years now seem just like a video game track editor...here's 10 "sections" or "obstacles" to pick from and you just plug them in along the same 4-5 rows of straights. No creativity. Need more corners instead of just here's a long section with jumps, turn, rinse, repeat. Back in the MCM days we built tracks using Photoshop and the gradient tool to make whatever we wanted. There was one SX track that won a contest from Whiteboy where even the 500cc bikes were slowed down and forced to actually ride like a real bike and not jumping whole sections at once.

How about 6-8 whoops, then a little double or a wall jump, back into 6-8 more whoops. Boom there's a section.

How about a large step-up out of a turn before the big triple. Make the launch much more steep and shorten the distance so they spend more time in the air going slower. Hell get rid of the triple and just make it a big double with a super steep launch. Make the landing a table-top if worried about safety to lessen the impact of coming up short.

Bring BACK dragonback sections but put them right out of a turn so the bikes are slower and not going WFO, less consequences if you fuck up the timing but still very technical.

Shorten the sand section and use that extra sand to make it super deep so the lines change every lap. Put a small double in the sand or tall rollers.  Main point - shorter sand section = deeper sand section = changing lines, slower lap times.

Bring back those turns where the inside was more flat and the outside was lifted like a tabletop you jumped up onto and coming out of the turn jumped off of over a single.

Just a few ideas I have for making things a bit different. Seems like tracks used to have much steeper jumps/obstacles that slowed riders down and required more technical ability. Now sections the jumps seem lower, faster. It doesn't matter if you put 5 jumps in a row because these guys are clearing them all so now you just have wasted jumps & dirt in between. Sections need to be shorter and steeper IMO.
