As everyone has said, it's never too late. What to expect?.... probably not to do very well in your first few races (from a results perspective). But have fun with it and don't get discouraged. Set small goals for each race and work on technique and speed when practicing. You certainly don't need to live at any training facility but if some local A/pro guys offer a Saturday or weekend training session, you might want to consider those to help you along.
If you haven't already I would start a cardio and some kind of strength training regimen.
Never too old! I started racing when I was 23. My parents did their best to give me a bike when I was growing up but just couldn’t afford a race bike. Was the best years of my life. Almost 50 and still riding.
I was parked next to a guy last year at Aztalan, he had just started racing and was (if a recall) in his 50’s!

I plan on going to my local track for practice days for awhile till I get everything down before I race. I expect to get beaten badly my first couple times tho. But I'm willing to put in the hard work that comes with this sport. I'll will keep that in mind! Also do they offer motocross training at tracks?
I plan on putting in some solid practice days on the track before I enter a race. I will be focusing on being solid and smooth! Thanks for the advice!
I was hoping I could stay on my CR125 lol. I haven't thought about moving up to a 250F yet, I've had my 125 for a while and I still have a blast on it!
I will, I plan on going to my local track soon!
I plan on getting as much seat time I can get! I'll be doing everything from mx, hare scrambles and hill climbs!
23 your at your peak as a man. I think I was 23 or 24 for my 1st race. My const job had me out of state working so not a lot of time to ride. I rode a Mx bike maybe 8-10 times deep sand tracks in town. I rode with a kid that won 125 c then moved to 125a. We slammed each other in corners & raced each other hard. My 1st race I asked how many laps , they said 125 a is 8 laps more than the other classes. I thought cool I get to race more. I had no tear offs didn’t even know they made them. Front hard pack tire with a sand tire missing knobs. I was a bball hot shot . I looked at it like a sporting competition and I don’t loose at them. When 45 bikes where screaming there engines on the start. My whole body got an adrenaline rush . I yelled let’s go, let’s go, drop the gate. Getting hit off the start it was like everyone wants to get to the front & drop the rider your bumping. The NSR ported 4 hill climb was quick & strong I short shifted on the mid real quick. I was passing riders like crazy that where on the ovr rev. I hit riders in the back of the swing arm & knocked them out of the way. Others cut inside & smash them so I could make the corner. I scared myself a lot but Loved it. They call it riding ovr your head now . 1 corner left & a hill to the finish. I front flipped & landed on my neck wo. I tried to get up but couldn’t move my legs or arms. I panicked a few minutes later I could move. I was in 1st . A Yamaha dealer offer me a yz , I said no Thx. I Love my bike. That was stupid my bike was 4 yrs old.
I plan on getting a lot of practice in. If the local pro's do offer some practice days at there house, I will definitely take them up on that offer!
Even better to learn on a 125. It will teach you clutch control, they don’t have as much power as a 250f, and not near as much weight to push around. Just don’t go from the 125 to a 450.
I've been working out. But I need to start working on my cardio. Thanks for the advice,
Cool what yr ? I hv 04,s and had 05 and 06,s. I Love them all but the 04,s my favorite. They all corner on there own, there stable and jumps r a lot easier. You hv 2 classes to race 12+ yrs old 125 old 50+ like myself race it to . And 250 c . Get your thigh muscles strong so you can stay in a good position. Keep your upper body loose. 2 sided tape on clutch & front brake levers . Easier to use hitting holes or whatever. My feet fly off the Honda pegs, get grippier pegs. I got IMs pro series I think there called. They came with the wrong springs. The owner might remember the correct ones . There farther down & a little farther back to.
^^^This is Gold^^^
Just do it
Hell no brother. Come on with it. Trying to go pro is a path to poverty and misery. Local amateur racing is the most fun you can ever have.
Only thing you need to abide by is to hold your line when fast guys are running up on you. They can see you. You cant see them. Dont swerve to get out of the way. Stay where you are. They'll go around
And get down to the start 2 motos prior to your race. It moves fast and its confusing if you're new. If race 9 is on the track, race 10 is on the gate. Race 11 is in staging and damnit youre late!
Just get in some practice make sure your bike and gear is ready make it to the gate and finish without getting hurt. That's all that matters.
Pit Row
Me when someone mentions Brandon
For sure that would be a huge step up lol. I plan on taking my time and getting use to the power of the 125 on the track. Once I've been riding on the track for awhile, I'll move up to a 250 2 stroke or a 250F.
I have a 03 CR 125. It's a good thing I've been working on my thigh muscles lol. I'll keep that in my mind. I have one question tho. When I come up to a jump, I know to hold my line but is there a specific spot I need to hit the jump? Also when I get too the face off the jump do I let off on my gas? I heard someone say that in a youtube video. He was giving pointers to a new rider but I couldn't really hear what the dude was saying.
What year is your bike ? There’s quite a few 02-07,s at the local track.
Nube Racing Rules!- Absolutely must follow!
1) Don't bother showing up at a race unless you have a current model bike!
2) 500 two strokes (any year ) only exception to rule #1
3) All gear must match perfectly and be current year stuff and only most expensive available!
4) Don't even bother riding your bike stock! Send out your suspension and motor before you even try riding your bike.
5)Don't bother walking the track! Just hit everything WFO first lap.
6) Don't go to rider's meeting and don't worry about flags (Except checkers when you win!!
Don't listen to any of this! Go to your local track, make friends ride what you have. Wear what you have. Have fun! Don't take it too serious! Ride a practice day. Then go to a race and sign up for whatever is the slowest class. Some tracks have "Beginner Beginner " classes. Have fun!!!
Lol I definitely won't listen to any of that. I plan on going to all of the practice days at the local track, before I enter a race. I can't wait to finally get out on a track!
Of course it’s not too late, my advice will be not to compare yourself to anyone else and always measure your success in the amount of fun you had
We're going to talk about this on the MotoXpod Show tonight
03 is a good bike with good midrange. Jumps there all different on steep faces you usually let off at the top. Try to pick a line on the jump that’s smooth. No square holes - kickers that will kick the rear end up. A double with little angle , leave the gas on usually. 90,s red Bud double double there’s a rt bowl turn b4 it . The 2nd double is where the mags took all the pics. It’s a perfect example the 1st double has little angle. You hit it with speed wide open. The 2nd double has a steep face . Wide open up the steep face then off with the throttle right at the top. Stay loose on the steep faces & let the bike move at take off. Say a steep step up on the side of a hill. Wo then at launch the cr125 does the rest. The frontend will go up , top of the hill it levels out and starts to come down. Shift your weight forward a little, your arms naturally put more wt on the bars. And you land perfectly smooth, walking is more of an impact. Top of the hill you can play around doing diff stuff, to see what feels the best. I like to take my rt foot off the peg that brings the rear end up. Or a habit of mine is hooking my heal under the sub frame. Or push with palms on the rear of the grips . All that stuff brings the frontend down. Purposely jump frontend high wo with body wt ovr the frontend. To almost do a fender kiss. Then push the frontend down dropping into a valley, that’s fun. Practice a 90,s clutch in rear brake tap . You might hv to ovr jump to get a pass done. He,ll freak when the brake tap happens rt in front of him. Old school move. There all fun moves it’s a 125 you put that bike where you want it.
I just did my first ever race on Sunday at age 30. It was a lot of fun. Go for it
