Cool what yr ? I hv 04,s and had 05 and 06,s. I Love them all but the 04,s my favorite. They all corner on there own, there stable and jumps r a lot easier. You hv 2 classes to race 12+ yrs old 125 old 50+ like myself race it to . And 250 c . Get your thigh muscles strong so you can stay in a good position. Even better to learn on a 125. It will teach you clutch control, they don’t have as much power as a 250f, and not near as much weight to push around. Just don’t go from the 125 to a 450.

23 your at your peak as a man. I think I was 23 or 24 for my 1st race. My const job had me out of state working so not a lot of time to ride. I rode a Mx bike maybe 8-10 times deep sand tracks in town. I rode with a kid that won 125 c then moved to 125a. We slammed each other in corners & raced each other hard. My 1st race I asked how many laps , they said 125 a is 8 laps more than the other classes. I thought cool I get to...

I was parked next to a guy last year at Aztalan, he had just started racing and was (if a recall) in his 50’s!

Never too old! I started racing when I was 23. My parents did their best to give me a bike when I was growing up but just couldn’t afford a race bike. Was the best years of my life. Almost 50 and still riding.

If you haven't already I would start a cardio and some kind of strength training regimen.

As everyone has said, it's never too late. What to expect?.... probably not to do very well in your first few races (from a results perspective). But have fun with it and don't get discouraged. Set small goals for each race and work on technique and speed when practicing. You certainly don't need to live at any training facility but if some local A/pro guys offer a Saturday or weekend training session, you might want to consider those to help you along.

23 isn’t too late for anything. I have worked with guys that started boxing at 25 and were world champions at 35. Of course, that’s a different level of commitment and they had slightly different motivations. but to have fun racing with buddies? You are just fine! I found most of the guys I was racing as kids started to get over it by the time we were all getting vehicles at 16-18. Now at 24-26 they all want to get back into it. 23 you’ll be able to always have a goal of improvement and never get over it

It sounds like everybody is in agreement - it's never too late. Go to a race and watch how it's done, then bring your bike the next race weekend and line up!

One thing you can do since you're just starting out. See if your local track has practice day the day before the race. do as many of those as you can before you show back up someday on a Sunday, You'll be ready.

Never to late. Don't be afraid to get last. Get to the gate and race. You learn so much your 1st few races its insane.

Agreed, and honestly depending on your area harescrambles and enduros may be more realistic way to race. Here in Central NC I can race a couple of hare scramble series and race almost every weekend this time of year, MX is much less.

I race in a vet (+30) club and we get new guys every year in the beginner class... REAL beginners to dirtbikes and motocross. They have a blast. 23 is nothin'.
