I rewatched the TC race yesterday and couldn't believe how much racing they don't show. They were literally talking about AP and JA going back and forth, then AP was about to get bye and they switched to ET by himself. At the same time KR caught up to JL, they were wondering how, but they continued to show ET cruising? Finally they switched to KR/JL cruising and totally missed the AP pass on JA.

Who is in the booth watching the multiple cameras and choosing the one with no action?

On top of that, the rider interviews during the race action are extremely painful and distracting...

That part is just beyond stupid.  Bondo!

I haven’t enjoyed as much primarily because the track designs have absolutely sucked this season. I’m ready for outdoors. It’s a shame too because we are going to lose a lot of talent in the 450 class in the coming seasons, and as of now in my opinion, there isn’t really anyone standing out in the 250 class I see being a major threat to Jett.

Yeah terrible tracks & not much racing action. It’s time to clip the money in sx. And kick 500K into vet racing.  And add a 125 pro class at the Nationals.  The Nationals need a tweaking too.  Canada,s program is more entertaining. With 2 pro classes, super mini, wmx and a 125 class.  We get pro,s that don’t want to race on Sundays. I,m mean come on , you’re not that special.

I was watching some old 90's supercross and they make a lot of the same silly mistakes that they still make today, but one thing I noticed was if they went to an interview with someone they were following on the track, you would just hear his voice, no picture in picture.  Probably because they didn't have the technology, but I liked it because I hate the way they do the split screen.

They've been dumbing down the sport for some time now.

They want to grow the sport with a generation that has no interest in it other than watching the "spectacle" and crashes....how many are going to go out and buy a bike, ride, race it?      How many can even afford it?

"What if" every rider had a gopro that could be accessed live by the broadcast team ?

A 360 style camera that would allow reframing would be amazing to have on every racer. You would NEVER miss a shot.

It would also be cool to offer the ability to jump around from camera to camera inside an app, while wearing VR goggles.

If You do not know how reframing with a 360 cam works or what it is. Look up insta360 and gopro 360 cameras. They do a better job of explaining.  I just don't know if they could well work live yet .

I think that the weather has been the biggest reason the tracks have not been better.

But still with that said, the designs have been so similar. I feel like it is Arenacross when I look at each map recently.

The mud races and threats of mud, have impacted how the tracks have been built and or developed too. I wonder if the similar track designs are intentional  and for what reason. Lazy designer? feedback from riders and teams? for safety somehow?

Feld makes money off of getting people out and entertaining them. It would be crazy of them to purposefully try and make it less exciting. I think that perhaps being a little less critical when they try new things , and instead of saying something sucks. Offer ideas of how to make it better. Perhaps making it the old way might be better, but they changed it for a reason, so give them some reasons to change it back that could make sense on a large scale.

You also have to remember that they have tons of data they can see. Who is watching from where and when, for how long. And other details depending on what devices people are streaming from. Ticket sales and how and when they sell too. So if something is not working, they will see its not working. And they will see if the old way worked better. Offering up ideas outside of what has been done might be more helpful. Since like I said, if the data from the old way shows it worked better, they will go back.

So next year I certainly hope I don't read any more "The field is so stacked" threads. Jett is just ahead of the field. Have to tip your hat to Roczen and Webb for giving an effort. AP has been a pleasant improvement. Chase is doing fine. I think the 250's are more entertaining, but their championships are still in the balance. I still enjoy all the hype, commentaries and action. Could be worse, could be watching Curling events.

when Austin crashed it made this season so much worse for me. Don’t really know why the exact reason, it just did.

The racing hasn’t been great this year. Neither have the tracks and not just because of the weather.

That's the problem of being a diehard fan of riders, Eli got the same hype and treatment as Jett did during his come up.

Every sport I watch I watch for the talent on display nationality/team/rider second, I rather watch amazing talents or teams dominating rather than watching lower quality "close racing" or "Close matches" we saw this during the Dungey era when RV retired, at the end of the day I don't win when my guy wins.

I loved watching RC dethrone the king and went to dominate, you could see his progression andi improvement week on a week it was very exciting, same with James dethroning RC indoors.

Then after that we had one of the sickest riding styles in RV just drifting around on the rear wheel.

What is concerning about the sport currently is the 250's. there is a huge lack of talent in years previous currently there/

I enjoy every season, even if it’s a rider I don’t particularly like that is doing the winning. No matter what, there’s always something cool to watch; different styles, someone pulling awesome moves, battles in the pack, the bikes, the tracks, the unknowns just around the next corner.
There’s always so many variables, even if it seems the results are a forgone conclusion, they’re actually not.

Reality is that there’s very few seasons where you get great competition all the way through.

Expectations deliver disappointment. Be open to whatever happens, sit back and enjoy.

That’s a pretty solid view. There are always sidebar stories of interest in SX plus watching stadium racing with dirt bikes. For the 450 class:  2006 was the best in this century, 2011 was competitive till end, 2017 tight till the last lap.

Final Points 2006:

Agree, 2006 was all time, although fuelgate was a bit of a blemish. 2011 was outstanding and the two mains at the final round of 2017 was maybe the most entertaining hour of SX ever! It’d be nice, but they can’t all be that good.

Thats because it's just entertainment racing not actual racing.

It's a produced show and jett is the star of the production that brings in the loot.

It's not real folks just entertainment.

Can they not throw some LIME into just the whoops that clearly aren't going to take shape. (Indy, Seattle, Detroit) That is if they even want true whoop sections this year. Nobody wants to watch Pro's single through rutted whoop sections.

The 9 whoop standard doesn't make sense or make racing any better Sick

Throw in a double at the end of the whoops that separates exit speed

Hypothetical question. If Tomac decided to go to MXGP next year and dominated, would you USA based fans lose interest because of the lack of battles or would you be stoked because your boy is dominating ??

Is lime the difference with how tracks break down now? I remember linegate, but that was just one time right? Surely there is an amount of lime in the tracks that will work, we were fine every other time except that one race..

Eli has bigger problems than his starts. Webb is consistently beating him.

Firstly, I know this sounds grumpy or I’m looking at the world through rose coloured glasses, but hear me out here..

Im an Eli superfan, so it’s been tough, I didn’t even see him last weekend..

the Jett Hype and constant talk is too much for me, it’s just annoying now, not saying he doesn’t deserve it, he is clearly the best guy, I just don’t need to hear it constantly.

I was really pulling for forkner this year, I have been a fan for many years now and I thought this was the turning point..

was Hoping to see a Deegan rise up and mature a little.. he didn’t.

Now it doesn’t look like anyone has anything for Jett, if he starts up front, it’s over lately.

I still bleed moto.. I’m on here every day, I listen to all the pulp shows, shit, I even listened to a couple gypsy tales shows!

Im just not hanging out for the racing to come around each week as bad as I usually do..

Anyone else feel this way? Or am I just being a bitch haha 😂

I felt the same when Stewart was about to retire.

To an extent he is not wrong. It’s a start driven race now, along with watered down sections, lack of whoops, and 180 turns. Slot car racing unless a mistake is made. Tracks in the earlier 2000’s had the guys racing properly with timing and technique. This hybrid shit needs to go

I have little to no expectations in life so I'm pretty happy most of the the time.  Bitching and moaning about stuff I can't control or change is a waste of my limited brain power.

Of course things could always be better but they ain't all that bad.  Especially for us Jett fans.Woohoo

I totally get the OP’s perspective…since it’s my own, and I get it. I was never a huge Eli Tomac fan…or a Cooper Webb fan at all (thought he was an arrogant asshole) until now… and with Eli underachieving, and Coop looking to be (aside from KR94) the only guy who can upset the Jett-cart, I’m kinda not feeling it this year.

Like he said, I’m not hating on Jett Lawrence…I’m just not a fan yet. He’ll grow on me. It took a long time with Tomac for me too.

3/23/2024 6:58am

I am enjoying the racing more this year.  But I’m a Jett fan.  I love when someone rises above and can just do things other people can’t.

Yup and don’t get me started on this growing the sport bull shit.  They been pulling that shit in the NHL the last 7 years and it’s so bad.  What’s it even mean really when is it big enough. Fuck the new fans. No one held my hand when I got into the sports I’m into.  You figure it out. Rant over lol let’s watch some good racin tonight
