Who the hell decided that going under a bridge straight after the first turn was a good idea.
You cannot make this shit up, you have pretty much the whole planet at Daytona to layout a good start, and they do this.
Fuckwittery
If Weege doesnt call this out for the crap it is, he needs to have a word with himself.
Poll
It may work out fine, but it certainly doesn’t look good on paper.
Not as sketchy as that final la Colosseum jump up into the stands last year inches from concrete posts every lap. 🤷♀️
Probably be fine. They are pretty spread out by that point coming out of first turn usually and there aren't any jumps to throw them off balance. Plus it's only one lap of the race. Maybe it's wider than normal also?
calm down it'll be fine
No biggie.

It seems like people open up track maps specifically to look for something to bitch about. I'm willing to lay odds that not a single racer stands in front of the over/under on track walk wringing their hands about it.
The best part is no one ever offers a better solution. Daytona may look like it has lots of room but there are a ton of restrictions.
Would you rather have the same track 3 years in a row? 2 was bad enough.
i bet the actual track will not look like this. There is no way that the over-under stays that close to the start
I thought Feld/AMA got rid of the over under bridges...They'll probably change it for the race.
Feld has nothing to do with this race.
Well I can say that it appears to be all 180's and the steel grate-to-dirt-to-grass turf start will make it interesting. Up until the apex of the first turn where it blends into track, it appears that the only time over the grass section will be just starts.
This track was designed with the hope of being able to bring "inside outside" to new levels.
Does RC still have a hand in the design? Lucky the track does not swing by in/out burger😂
What if they make it so they hit it almost like a wall jump during starts. So they make the same track, but the tunnel is filled in and they jump it from side to side during the starts. The track looks cool . I like how they have had some different style jumps here in the past. Stuff You don't see at other tracks.
A buddy of mine tried qualifying for it at one of the last times it was during the day and when they took more riders. I think the telephone pole whoops were gone by then. But not sure. I'll have to ask him the next time I talk to him. He was doing some jump that only he and Mcgrath were doing at the time. I think he missed making the main , even with the extra spots. He did much better at Nationals.
I don't see an issue with it. Better than a right-hander....
Is this the place to bring up the "why is there concrete on the side of the tracks still?" rant?
It’ll be fine. Calm down. Do you just give no responsibility to the riders to control their motorcycle?
Anyone else extremely confused how the OP thinks Weege needs to have a word with himself if he doesn't bring this up? What the hell does Weege need to bring this up for?
I just can't understand that you can look at a track map and immediately think.....WEEGE BETTER CALL THIS OUT OR HE BETTER HAVE A WORD WITH HIMSELF!! Where the hell does that come from?
I remember one of the speedway tracks last year was suppose to have an over under after the start like that but the actual track didn’t have it. Seems like it would be enough away from the first turn to me anyway though.
Pit Row
It's fine, but yes drugs
Is was the track Dylan crashed jumping into Kenny on. I think that track had a similar start but they went over the bridge rather than under.
It adds excitement, without the need for Friese!
Because the week after we lose the Red Plate from landing on concrete, we are going to send 20 guys , through a fucking hole in a wall 10 seconds after the gate drops.
And Weege is a journalist, its his job.
Looking at it again, my biggest concern is if guys go down on the start. Not a lot of time to get up and out of the way before the leaders are going back and forth across the first little straight and the opposite direction across the first turn. Might see some red flags if bikes get tangled or anything like that.
It does seem sketch.
....but I'm wondering how many first turn wipe outs are gonna send people onto pit row asphalt.
Whatever the case, I'm certain Friese will get blamed.
When Weege is on TV doing work for Feld/NBC/Peacock he is not acting as a journalist. So it really would surprise me if he was calling them out. I don't think its really that bad. Its not like a hole in a wall since they could miss it and go around it . I could be totally wrong and it might be a death trap.
But I don't think it will be built in a way that a rider would be able to hit a wall head on. I feel like there will be dirt and tough blocks in the way. Perhaps it is not the safest way possible. But I don't see it as an obvious deathtrap. If it truly was just a hole in a wall like the tunnels they ride into the stadiums through. I could see the danger . But if You miss the tunnel, You can go around and not hit a wall head on.
Perhaps somebody will see the concerns posted here and they will take a little extra precaution when the real track is built. Or it could be one of those things that just doesn't translate well to a drawing, but works well in real life. I am glad that people that see a problem are pointing it out and calling out the track designers.
Yes, he's the one who designed it.
Yes! And I'm hearing they are not allowing pit bikes for campers in a massive speedway ,where it could be a quarter mile to a restroom. And during covid, made mechanics wear masks prepping a gate.outside. And, make the winner put down plywood before celebrating so as not to damage the precious track with rubber.
He’s not a journalist when he’s calling the race.
They are limited in what they can do at Daytona. There was a podcast that RC talked about a lot of the restrictions there are. It's not as blank of a canvas as You would think. Maybe somebody else will remember were RC talked about it and post a link.
Its wild all the things that impact the design that You would never think about. Other races that use the track , the stuff that is buried under the grass. After hearing what he said I could see why the tracks are so similar each year.
I hope its not a mud race, and that everybody gets through the race without any injuries. I just had a couple customers come in today that are on their way down as I type this. Some for the Am day, some just to ride practice tracks and watch the SX.
Post a reply to: Daytona Track map... are they on drugs.?
