I just made a post n non moto about going to my local VONs for groceries. They had to eliminate carts because the thieves were filling them up with groceries and walking right out the door and they are powerless to stop them thanks to the criminals that are in positions of power. Let that sink in….a grocery store with no cart! You buy what you can carry thanks to the scum who think it’s okay to steal since you won’t be arrested/charged. Yeah right, crime is going down…..that has to be the stupidest crap I’ve read in this forum
Great idea to check with the dealers...
2) Insurance is cheap and worth having.
3) Both bikes that were stolen in 2019 were recovered months later. The person with the Aprilia SXV550 motard bike wasn't charged, and the person with the $6,500 KTM (that was thoroughly destroyed by the time it was recovered) got a $3,000 fine in court.
Police laziness and weak laws are common all over the world.
Forget about getting your bike bike after it's been stolen - it's all about preventing it from being stolen in the first place.
4) The KTM that was stolen in 2019 was actually stolen again this week... from inside the house, with the back wheel out and an OnGuard 8046 lock on the front disc. The thief put the back wheel back in, and then tore the house apart until he found the key for the OnGuard lock.
I'm not too concerned this time - police know who it is (fingerprints everywhere) and the bike is insured this time. Because police will arrest and charge the thief I'll get my insurance excess back and not lose my no-claim-bonus.
Lesson: hide the key(s) better than what I did (they were locked up in a steel stationary cabinet). Get a good safe fitted to your house, and have a cheap decoy safe somewhere else.
I've been copying/pasting/recycling this text file for a while now. Learn from my experience.
Two of my bikes were stolen a couple of years ago - they were stored inside the house, with locks on the discs and they were still taken. The Xena alarm disc lock on one bike and the padlock on the other bike were absolutely useless (ie both easily removed).
Lesson: Do a bunch of research about bike locks and learn which ones actually work. Nothing will beat a portable angle grinder but the next level of attack is hydraulic bolt cutters.
So, that's my minimum standard now - if something can't beat hydraulic bolt cutters then it doesn't go near any of my bikes.
Summary: Get a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit and/or OnGuard 8046. Buy them on eBay US and pay the postage. I'm using both - one of each per wheel. Xena alarm disc locks are useless so I've got an ABUS Granit Detecto XPlus 8008 on the way (ie better quality alarm disc lock). Yep, I'm going to have two or three locks on each bike from now on.
Some points:
1) An angle grinder will cut through anything. It won't take very long but it will make a lot of noise.
2) Any lock can be picked by someone who has the skills and experience. However, very, very few thieves will have the required experience.
3) The main tool to be concerned about is a set of hydraulic bolt cutters. These will cut through almost all locks quietly and quickly. Hydraulic bolt cutters is the "standard" that you need to defend against.
Almost all locks can be cut open easily with hydraulic bolt cutters. It takes seconds to do, the tool is easy to acquire and doesn't make any noise.
4) For a disk lock it's all about the strength of the shackle and thickness of it - enough to beat hydraulic bolt cutters. The top-end Kryptonite and OnGuard locks have this. Almost no others do.
5) Don't get sucked in by any bullshit marketing and sales pitch. Before buying anything search for it on Youtube and see how it handles bolt cutters.
Hydraulic Bolt Cutters:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4VGcoMU8_U
Do not buy any lock until you have searched on Youtube to see how it handles hydraulic bolt cutters. Very, very few locks survive.
Two brands that have locks that defend well against any sort of bolt cutters are Kryptonite and OnGuard.

No where did I say anything about a shitty justice system?? I was quoting what the cop told us when asking him about going to the location to retrieve the item? I've got plenty of cop friends and back them 100%, and cant believe the shit the have to go thru!!
So put your glasses on and learn to comprehend what's being said!
"The U.S. murder rate rose 30% between 2019 and 2020 – the largest single-year increase in more than a century"
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/10/27/what-we-know-about-the…
And another source I expect you would trust.
"US records highest increase in nation's homicide rate in modern history, CDC says"

Just wanted to update y'all and give a shout out to the Waterbury CT. police department. Just found out they recovered my son's YZ 125!. Two years later and we got 1 out of three back. I talked to the arresting officer and he told me the bike is in good shape and may even have some goodies on it that weren't there before.
Hopefully the POS who stole it gives up his buddies and it leads to getting them all back but this is a great start.
My only issue is I moved to Florida so I can't be at the court hearing to "address" the punk or make a Victim/Witness Statement. I will try to get restitution for the tow fee I have to pay and hopefully he fails to pay and goes to prison with the really bade dudes.
Again, thanks to the Waterbury police and their task force that is reuniting lots of good people with their bikes.
You do realize that it's the criminal justice system...not the victims justice system.
They tell you who they are in their titles if you're paying attemtion. Stealing is legal now just ask any cop if you talk to that scum.
I hope they actually have room in the jail to lock him up.
At least you got one back. I'm sure it doesn't make you feel that much better though. I'm in CT in a decent neighborhood. But I still don't even like starting my bike that much at the house so people know I have a bike
They got me for my 21 works edition and my 23yz450 here in ohio 2 weeks ago. Insured, but still blows.
To bad you didn’t catch them to be able to put a bullet in them!
I hear the air tags can be detected and deleted which I’m sure that’s the case. But I doubt that’s the first thing the typical wheelie boy is going to do before he rides off on it or loads it up. Maybe a pro, but not the dumb ass meth head.
Yeah it’s easy to cut a lock on a trailer. But a simple alarm with a screaming honkin horn and flashing light going off is not a bad idea. Back in my tournament bass fishing days we had thieves that followed the tournament circuit. Electronics on a bass boat cost about what a dirt bike cost. Thieves love to see all those boats in hotel parking lot. When a thief sticks his head under the cover and sees that little red light flashing on the dash he goes to the next boat. One of these days I’m going to flip my RV we don’t use and get a hauler. First thing I’ll do is an alarm system. Not fool proof but they help.
I hate a thief.
In todays world, your typical biker boy is a professional thief. Drones, night vision, everything. The others are just crackheads. Honestly i wish theyd all do it the legit way because some of them are extremely talented on the bike.
Where i had mine located was in the sticks in a locked shop which was under surveillance at an occupied residence. Theyre very lucky they didn't meet my father.
NO! Your Honda and the new Yamaha? MFER!
