AP gets some press wearing a cowboy hat. My guess he’s probably always wore one, lived in rural area farm or ranch etc.
Saw a pic or commercial with Bam Bam wearing a cowboy hat the other day.
When I was a teenager Brad Lackey worn a straw cowboy hat all the time. We tried to copy the look but we failed. Heck back in Oklahoma everybody wore cowboy hats. We just blended in.
Here in Texas it’s not uncommon to see guys at the track with cowboy hats. Lot of blue collar guys that work out wear straw cowboy hats. I’ve worn one in the summer outside most of my life. I wear one at the track, straw hats work good in Texas sun.
How many of you moto guys be rockin the cowboy hat look. I’m surprised ya don’t get one when ya buy a KTM! Will the hat look catch on in Motocross.
I've been wearing a cowboy hat for 20 years, but it's not because of moto.

I can’t remember where I saw the pic of him. He was sitting on a racing scooter and they had him dressed up and lookin the part. No drug store cowboy look for sure.

Last year at A1 the look was definitely cowboy hat, pit vipers, and a shirt with something like “I eat ass” on it.

As someone from Texas who has worked on a ranch and has family involved with ranching and livestock I have to say AP's corny fake azz felt cowboy hat is lame af. At least get a good straw cowboy hat for the summer. More importantly, AP is from Hamilton, Ohio- located in a county that has 400,000 people and is nothing more than a suburb of the 2.2 million person Cincinnati metro. There is nothing cowboy about where he is from, it is just (1) a marketing move and (2) a way to cover up his quickly receding hairline. He is just basically using it as a costume which is lame af.
Any real rancher or ranch hand knows a cowboy wears a baseball cap from the local ford or chevy or deere dealer, wearing a cowboy hat maybe only to church, if at all.

Been rocking a cowboy hat since a kid on the farm. But a good quality straw one, not the fake palm leaf ones, and usually not felt unless at a country bar (even then I would rock a nicer straw one.) Keeps the sun off, and very practical. Lots of folks up in rural NorCal do the same, see them often in the staging areas.
Nothing wrong with it IMO. Certainly a better look than wearing your pants around the knees to show off your designer underwear.
Just my opinion and experience.
All I know is girls look great rocking the cut off short, cowboy boot and cowboy hat look. I can put up with some moto guys wearing hats as long as they keep wearing that
