He reminds me of Pastrana with his taller stature and hand guards

What is that piece sticking out the back of his helmet? Looks like a connector to a camel back drinking straw sticking out near his neck. Is that what this is? Do some of these guys ride with camel backs? I didnt think they did.

Yes, but it was a bit more of an out of control launch off the track just before the corner and he ended up cutting across the middle of the corner saving it. Don't know if AMA did anything about it but it didn't appear intentional at the moment. The right thing might have been to let (Robertson?) back past and continue racing.

Got it. I was watching the races in the condo in Mammoth after racing all day and was half awake Smile

I love Maximus' style - I think he makes his height work for him.  Definitely thrown in the deep end a bit early, and it's been a tough slog, but I still think he has the fundamental tools to be successful.  It's never easy at that level, and he'll continue to get better with the right people around him.  Count me as a huge fan....

Are we talking about the same Vohland that was on tilt after being passed and CUT THE TRACK to then advance in position with a block pass?

That Vohland?

(That off track excursion had NOTHING to do with regaining the course at the safest point. He was racing to the next corner.)

How the hell does AMA let that go?

Well good. Thank you for clarifying.

Also that was very telling of the mindset of this youngster.

Max looks like he would blow over in a lite breeze ..

Technical issues aside or not the dude needs to hit the gym for any sort of a 450 stint

So do you say that for Cooper, Jo, Kitchen and pretty much the rest of the class? All of them do well with a start and none of them come through the pack in a regular basis…

The kid is young, and will most likely improve. look at the others ahead of him, all fantastic riders.

Not every one can be the champ, or top three.

That's funny you bring that up. I was just thinking of that the other day. There's quite a few riders in the 250 class that don't seem to be able to really work there way to the front. But if they get a start they run and hide. Kitchen and Cooper are the first that come to mind. What do you attribute that to?

I went and found the 2nd moto on YouTube and it didn't look nearly as out of control as when I saw it in real time. He only swapped a bit jumping over the dirt mound on the inside of the corner but sure didn't seem to try and slow down while skipping the rhythms entering the corner.   I retract my earlier statement.

Parity in the class, many going similar speed. Therefore if they start up front they can stay there. If they don’t, they don’t have that little extra to be able to make their way through the pack

He finished just outside of the top 5 right behind Vialle who was supposed to mop the floor this year but that didn't happen. So I'd say Max is doing pretty good in a stacked field.  He is 20yrs old now so he needs to step up next year and shoot for a top 5 finish in the championship.

I don't really buy that.  The guys that start 5-10 are finishing anywhere up to 30-40 secs or more off first place.

Most of the 250 riders this year had trouble stringing two good motos together.  I don't know whether it's fitness or inexperience or what.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and there was a national level 250 rider talking (I can't for the life of me recall who it was, not a top 5 guy).  He basically stated that you can't be fit enough to have two good motos; I was very surprised at the statement.

Yeah. Pretty much. The statement he made was pretty clear.

My point was he knew it was cheating and still did it.

Its an integrity thing thats all.

Or it was just a brief moment of frustration and a dumb decision after what happened the corner before? I doubt the season has planned out how he'd like, maybe just things boiling over?

If you're gonna judge a young feller on one bad call in the moment, then you can probably apply that to most of the field at one point or another...

So he’s saying that no one is fit enough to put two good motors on the board in one day? What secret sauce is Jett on then?

It was Bennick I think on Vital’s podcast and I think he was talking about the transition from amateur to pro specifically and how that has been difficult. Not that it’s impossible.

Hunter must be doing something right, starts 10th almost every moto & ends up on the podium. Vohlland starts top 5 & works his way backwards.
