Lol Deegan is nothing like Jlaw , he was out partying getting into drugs breaking laws.

I get your comparison but it doesn’t correlate with the difference between Jett and Deegan.

I picture the mad alpinestars yellow and black kit with a massive vegemite logo front n back on that red Honda would be a mint marketing ploy. 👍

Are you comparing Deegan to JLaw? I don't get it, explain.

While I know everyone throws it back to McGrath being on Leno as the pinnacle, Jett has been involved in some pretty big things and has some more upcoming very soon.

MVMT - watches
Quadlock - Phone accessory company, also sponsors Jack Miller in MotoGP and Oscar Piastria in Formula 1
Cobra Golf - Major golf brand.
Jettson.co - Personal apparel website
Anti-Social Club - Multiple collabs with this large streetwear brand. (2.5 million followers on IG)

The two big ones:

Jettson Donuts - Self-named donut franchise, with first physical store opening in Times Square later this year. They also sold these donuts at the majority of Supercross rounds, selling out at each venue.

Fortnite - Jett will be launching a partnership with Fortnite in about two months or so. This is one of the largest video games out there with over 237,000,000 players in just the last 30 days alone.

Lastly, McGrath was on Jay Leno I believe twice. In early 2000 and 2001. At this point, I believe he would've been 28 and 29 years old during these two appearances. Also, his Bud Light deal came for the 2002 season, in which Jeremy was 30 years old.

Jett Lawrence just turned 20...give the kid some time. He's making an impact and will continue to do so.

Jim Downey, father of Brett Downey (RIP) works for PPG. His son and Eli were childhood friends from what I'm aware and PPG's relationship with Troy Lee Designs (Brett was sponsored by them as well as Eli as amateurs) is I believe where the relationship started in moto.

Me thinks we peaked with MC & Pastrami… RC & Stew kept it going somewhat but seems like been on the decline, as far as marketing goes since. Where are all the Aussie corporations?

I would have leave RC out, an unpopular remark, but he was not marketable to those not involved in mx.

I’m not directly comparing Deegan and JLaw because there is not really a good comparison between their conduct.

My point in bringing up the Dungey vs. JLaw is a parallel between Dungey’s demeanor, poise, and class, which Jett is similar to in some ways, with JLaw’s brasher, more rebellious ways with a flair for controversy, which Deegan has some similarities to.

I am not saying Deegan is out doing drugs, partying etc. But I am saying that Jett, like Dungey, has certain characteristics that may appeal more to large corporate sponsors, the kind that this thread is talking about.

I asked someone from RC's camp, he wasn't the source of the Makita deal. Mel Harris at Suzuki put the deal together. A source also confirmed something I had heard from someone at Suzuki a few years back, the Makita deal wasn't really that lucrative. Much lower than anyone would probably guess a factory team would get for a title-level sponsorship.

Interesting research, thanks for sharing, ML. I assume with a low money deal that it still would have happened without RC joining the team in 05.

Yeah, it seems like PPG has been a sponsor for TLD affiliated riders since the late 80s or early 90s, haven’t they?

I can see Jett signing up to a fashion brand maybe something like Nike.

He likes his cars maybe he will get a car sponsor, Audi seems to do a fair bit of niche sports sponsorships, "professional" video gaming being one of them.

The video game industry is massive. It makes more money than the music and movie industries combined.

Him partnering with Fortnite is big news.

Maybe Jett will be the next rider to have his name attached to an MX game. McGrath, Carmichael, and Pastrana all had their names attached to games, and they're all icons of the sport.

The future is bright for Jett.

was comparing the two, because fortnights essentially bigger than supercross. which is a wild thing to say.

in no shape or form am i shitting on ama. I'm just saying its a big deal due to the size of the company.

I’d bet that the $50M per year claims may not actually be completely real if actually audited……

Don’t get me wrong, there is probably a few instances of some stupid money going to a couple of people, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that a lot of people are adding quite a few zeros to their actual receipts in order to build up some hype.

I’m not sure that any actual racers can be all that marketable outside of the core moto market.  They’d need to devote too much time to other things, and likely take away from their moto preparations and training.  Pastrana had the easiest opportunity to do it because he was still riding a bike, at least, but even that seemed to take too much focus away from racing to continue that as his main occupation.

I don’t think that Jett has reached the Pastrana/McGrath level of popularity outside of the moto community yet, but he could soon. I think that he’d have to make a career change (racing cars?) to go any higher than them, though.

Tournaments have no trouble selling out arenas.

Teachers back in the day. Quit playing video games. There's no future in that.

Nice list. I believe nobody brought in a big outside sponsor in their rookie year in the premier class. Even though Villopoto and Tomac didn't in their careers I don't feel that detracts from their legacy, and it would be just fine if Jett didn't bring anyone in.

I don't think it was his rookie year but Villopoto had Volcolm or maybe that was a team sponsor. I don't remember forsure and maybe it wasn't the most unique outside sponsor as they are in a lot of action sports but I don't remember seeing it too often in moto. I always thought it looked cool on his helmet.
