I'm Canadian and I hope we do well at the MXDN but I always cheer for the USA to win. But you better believe I want to see us kick the Americans' ass in Olympic or World Championship hockey! But even there, if we can't win I hope the USA does. It's like family: you don't want to lose to your brother but you'll cheer for him otherwise. I don't claim to represent Canadians - just myself.

There's no place for hurling abuse (racial or ethnic slurs) at anyone due to nationality but I don't think booing counts as abuse.

The Deegans have read the room and they know who their audience is!Whistling

and as the racist stuff goes, I read the room in 2006-2008 at the nationals, and let’s just say I know that audience too.

Don’t believe me, go over to gypsy tales and listen to Trey Canard talk about what he heard people yell at James and how he was treated at the nationals. I’m not surprised he took 3 yrs off and took so long to come back.

I’ve been to a lot of NBA games and there’s lots of booing going on both towards the opposing team and the officials. Booing is part of emotion and competition brings out emotion in competitors and fans alike.

Don’t let a few bad apples from 14 years ago spoil the batch. There’s hateful people all over the world and you can certainly find them if you go looking. But there’s a lot more good, honest, loving people.

AMA Supercross and Motocross are somewhat unique in that they could genuinely be considered de-facto world championships but they are held almost entirely inside one country.  It’s the presence of high calibre overseas riders that lends a lot legitimacy to that claim.

One of the major aspects of that situation though is that the vast majority of riders are American.  Furthermore the spectators, support crews and everyone else peripheral to the athletes are almost entirely from that one country.  In that respect they are different to MXdN, Olympics etc.

Matthes’ point is this - it’s a dangerous path to tread because there’s a risk that foreign riders become alienated from the majority of people around them on the basis of nothing more than their country of birth.  These are people that entered the US legitimately, contribute to the economy etc.

Is that risk low?  Probably but at the very least it could create tension that is just unwarranted.

I’m Australian.  We have, as a nation, a great sporting culture and we love being competitive.  We are also, in the heat of battle, as patriotic as anybody.  I get that side of it.

Steve’s argument, which I tend to agree with, is why go there?  Battle your opponents on the track, indulge in some mind games off the track but do it in a fair and respectful way.

Now Deegan is young and it could just be something that came out in the moment of his greatest achievement to date.  It might never happen again.   On the other hand if does continues to happen then I agree with Matthes that there isn’t a place for that in any sporting event.

That’s true.
Getting alittle off topic, but this is just one example, I was at High Point in 2006, I was standing next to a guy who was with a group of guys probably in their mid 30s, we were watching practice and James goes flying by and the guy next to me, looks at me and says “that’s one fast N word, but RCs going to kick his ass”

I can’t stand it just because I look like you, talk like you, have a southern accent, you just assume I think just like you. That’s always rubbed me the wrong way.

That made me even a bigger fan of James.

Between the Deegan stuff and Steve complaining about the two-stroke challenge (“calm down two stroke people, nobody cares”), the first hour and a half of the Pulp show last night was a bit of a bitchfest.

Unfortunately I got to agree with you. I'm maybe 2hrs in and Steve was being a whiner, ML was trying to do YouTube comments while doing the podcast and Steve had to tell him stop, Kitchen displayed ZERO personality, his dad was cool as though, Steve complaining about 2 strokes, brings up Deegan/USA/division then doesn't want to talk about it too much when callers bring it up when he was the one that started the topic? I was driving along thinking "well this episode is abit of a downer..."

Colt Nicoles segment was really fun though. He's a good personality. Hopefully the 2nd half is entertaining

How is that different than professional baseball, basketball, football, etc. that are coined world championships all entirely in the US? I don’t see motocross in the US being unique in that regard.

I totally agree but just look at how many downvotes you got for your patriotic American view. Bunch of whiny woke liberals evidently lurking around in here. Fuck em' all imo!

STFU already you woke dumbass!! You are probably one of the biggest liberal dipshits in this forum. Don't start talking like the Stewarts received racist shit at every venue because that is total horseshit. I have personally witnessed Big James in Florida starting shit so do not act like James Jr or his family are some kind of victims!

Anyone posting broad politically motivated generalizations don't deserve the time of time day for a well thought out reply.... So the thumbs down is a perfectly good response for such stupidity.

“Thoughts on USA”?

I love it…great country…great to see US riders proud to be from America…great to see them take pride in a American winning a race in the American national championship.

I get what steve was saying but.....

Haiden loving his country and waving the flag on the podium while still respecting what the Lawrence brothers are doing isn't mutually exclusive. Also it's not like Jett and Hunter are anti-american by any means. They love American culture.

I get it when it comes to MXDN time. But attempting to build this story line during the season for your brand? The world needs less of this division. Grow up kid.

Can we just focus on racing and leave the other stuff out of it?

This comment is aimed at you two and the topic at hand; not Deegan's comments.

Patriotism and nationalism are not synonyms. You can be a patriot and still acknowledge terrible things done by the US. I don't even know why I bother typing out some of these responses if you guys can't grasp this very basic concept. These types of comments reek of someone that has never been able to form their own opinion. Isn't it funny how both JT$ and ML were able to disagree with Matthes by giving their view/opinion on it without going "you must just be a pussy libtard lol".

Martin, to say something like that about the Deegans and their fans makes a simple point:

You are an ignorant ass.

Be sure to say this shit to Brian’s face and…man…I hope I’m there to hear and see it.

Great post. Arguing with people throwing out such mindless nonsense is like trying to play chess with a pigeon: He'll knock over the pieces, shit all over the board, then strut around like he won.

Nice!

The Canadian (with excellent taste in music) makes THE point and drops the mic…and leaves the room.

Very nice.

You could argue the most popular racers in recent years have all been foreign born. Reed, Roczen and now Jett. If the AMA series didn’t welcome others in with open arms it would be one thing but it’s not like that. Old man Deegan is finding an angle for more marketing and he is using it. It’s all about making the kid more popular.

A lot of guys are dicks to the French but that just seems more cultural if anything.

You mean "some" of the most popular and not "the" most popular? Deegan is more popular than Jett. The fanbase he's brought with him from his YouTube channel and social media is huge. It's probably not fans some would consider core fans but that doesn't the facts

Not a liberal Democrat, but definitely not a conservative Republican, more like independent, I don’t need a party to tell me how to think or form an opinion. You still use the word “woke”!? Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah I didn’t make that clear, it’s two separate audiences, I’m not saying the Deegans audience is the same as the racial one, more like the Trump loving fake conservatives is his audience, well most of the adults anyways, not the younger kids.

U-S-A is like the best chant there is.

Curious,

when have JL or HL got up on the podium and had a cry?

Uneducated fans do not like riders who dominate. For example RC4 and JS7.No doubt JL will be in this group.Or have you already thrown him in there?

In the end...I really am not a favorite of riders who are trying to appeal to their youtube base, sell donuts and wont give interviews to the regular moto media types.

There appears to be a lack of humility in the Deegan and Lawrence camps. Image is king over character.

I love RJ, Shimoda, Dylan, ..Sexton is the most humble guy out there...JCoop....fellas who go about their business and hand the football over to the ref when they score a touchdown.

We better stop the fans from chanting USA.

Nah, it’s awesome when they do it and the podium is nothing but foreign riders

Being "Pro-America" is under attack constantly these days.     Steve is out of line.

Like others said in the previous "dumgeoned" thread...it's nice to see a young kid be "patriotic".     My niece and nephew are "embarrassed" to be Americans.... they can GTFO and live elsewhere for all I care.

Look at the womens USA soccer team....most of them had sour-pusses and wouldn't sing our national anthem recently.   Sickening.  This is who we've chosen to represent our country.     The other nations were proudly singing their anthems.

Kudos to Haiden.

OP makes a good point about the idiots flipping off/disrespecting foreign riders.

I wonder if this thread will survive considering what happened with the other one.
