So this happened Sunday and is still bothering me a bit. Took my son to our local track to ride the kids track for a few hours. When we pulled up to the gate we told the lady we are just riding the kids track today, she asked what size bike and tell her it’s a 65 and she says he’s full price so it’s $40. I was a bit shocked as I never knew 65’s to ever be the same price as big bikes. Growing up minis 50-85cc was $10 less than big bikes. I reiterated that he was only riding the kids track and she replied with, “yup, 65’s are the same as big bikes.” I obviously paid it so my son could ride, but when the hell did this become a thing? Is this just the new standard everywhere?
Now, I do understand that a lot of minis do ride the main track at times and some dads will lie about which track Jr is riding so they can save some money, but that could easily be fixed by different color wrist bands. Am I in the wrong for thinking full price is a bit ridiculous to ride only the kids track?
I’m surprised that’s all they charge.
And I’m over here wondering when the hell they started charging $40 at all since it was $30 the last time I rode there.

That costs less than a round of golf, this isn’t 1995 when prices were 15$. 30-40$ to ride is what it should be, the track owner has a lot of expenses.

Sure $30-$40 for big bikes is fine, but again I’m talking about my 7 year old riding his 65 on the kids track and only the kids track. Full price of $40 seems a bit much for that.
Kids track or not it’s still Cost. In nwtn there is no price difference for sizes of bikes all one price. Most are up to 30$ a day BUT that’s cheaper then buying a dozer land etc etc so I’ll pay the 30 when it’s a convince for me
I paid $50 to ride for 54 minutes 3 weeks ago because of how the practices were. Part of it was my fault because I missed the first round for my group so I could have had maybe another 15 minutes. That said, $40 to ride for a few hours is nothing.
BTW they charge $50 for everyone as well, doesn't matter if its a 50 or 450.

New Jersey Tracks charge $50. Budds Creek is $40. Tomahawk in WV is $25. I think Southwick is $40.
I do remember all the tracks in California being $20 in the mid 2000s. With inflation, that's about 32 dollars.
Biggest gripe for me is that in NJ, they split up the practices even if there are only a few minis there, and they get 20 minutes an hour on the big tracks. Then they have the A and B/C splits. Essentially, you have to be there for four hours to get an hour of riding in.
In the UK kids bikes on the kids track would indeed cost you less, and kind of rightly so given the time and prep spent on a kids track is quite a bit less. Plus it's probably 50/50 the kid won't be there all day long.
Of course land ownership, insurance and maintenance/machinery still costs and everything is expensive these days.
But yeah I would expect the kids to be a little cheaper
$40-50 is pretty common in the New England area and seems fair to me. Not sure how any track could stay in business only charging $30/rider.
$40 is getting steep but not sure why a small bike should be less than a full size bike?
Most tracks in eastern pa are 35-40. Costs at most local tracks have gone up 5-10 the past few years and I’m not sure why anyone would except it not too? Are you paying less for anything lately? Neither are the track owners. 40 bucks to ride a few hours is still considerably cheaper than a psychiatrist’s hourly rate.
As someone who is the treasurer at a non-profit club track, I assure you that it is tough to cover the expenses at a track. Insurance is no joke to begin with, then add in the cost of flaggers, equipment, fuel, porta shitters, etc. God forbid a dozer requires a repair.
Knowing what I know now, I never whine when I have to break out my wallet at a local track.
It's the exception around here if minis are cheaper not the standard.
$25-50 on the east coast to ride all day. Very fair prices. Bike size doesnt matter.

This is what I don't understand about people on this forum and I don't think I ever will. Guys won't bat an eye at buying a $1200 titanium and carbon exhaust system or (insert other bling item for their bike), but when it comes to paying for say good fuel to run in their new bike or practice fees then they cry poverty. Motocross is not a cheap sport/hobby, it never has been, and never will be. There are many other options for places to ride that are cheaper. No one is forcing you to go to the motocross track. If that's too expensive for you then spend $50 and get a trail permit and ride trails. Motocross tracks are a business and the cost to run a track is not cheap. Diesel fuel is not cheap, equipment to maintain the track is not cheap, insurance for the track is not cheap. $35-50 for an afternoon of laps is a drop in the bucket and most people spend that in a week buying lunch or coffee every morning. If you can't afford to ride at the track then ride somewhere you can afford to. Or, you might have to swallow the hard pill that maybe riding dirt bikes is not financially feasible for you. Like any hobby, you make it as expensive as it needs to be for YOU.
I expect costs to go up, that's just how things go. What I wasn't expecting was prices to go up to full price to ride just the kids track that can be fully re-prepped in less than 30 minutes.

New world order…. Everything just doubled in price in the last couple years…. You’re $ worth 50% less. Enjoy👍…. I don’t mind paying whatever the track owner thinks they need to charge but in return, I expect decent prep and no bullshit when track conditions are stated on tracks facebook page.
Yup 25 for a shower at a pilot ts in Indiana. 25-35 to park higher price is in the ne. 200 for a annual membership at my local track. Probably 1 of the best layouts in the country. Rolling hills, valleys, floater jumps. A 2n track it’s flat but has fun bowl turns etc . Plus s beginner track. Small off rd riding area. Closed Monday otherwise open . No a,b separation just ride.
Things are a bit different here in case you weren't aware. Unless you have more trail bikes, you pretty much can't ride any motocross bike 03 and newer in the desert/trails this time of year. Won't really be able to until October 1st. Anything 22 and newer shouldn't even be getting a sticker to ride off road at all. And for the record, I'm not that guy buying $1200 ti/carbon exhausts or race fuel then turn around bitching about the price of track fees, nor do I buy lunch or coffee. My bikes are stock other than a SS slip on so I can ride off road during the winter. Even my suspension is still stock.
Like I said originally, this was about my kid riding the kids track and only the kids track for $40. The same price as the big bikes riding the 2 other tracks that are 3-4x bigger(or more even) and get way more torn up needing way more prep. Again, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong and this is just the way it is now but it wasn't this way until recently. Not angry about it, just surprised because this is new.
Anything with decent prep/groom is $30/40 here in Wisconsin. Is what it is, pay to play.
A local track here in Oregon (Mountain View MX) just raised their practice prices this week to be $50 for the first class and $25 for the second. However, it seems they decided this because their turnout has been low this year. However, the turnout is low because the prep has been awful. I am not sure how raising their prices is going to solve their problems.
While I agree with what people are saying, almost everyone is missing the point. I am also fine with rising costs of riding tracks, it's much better than the alternative (nowhere to ride). That said, his kid is riding a mini/tiny track only. I'd think it's reasonable to have a system where a kid who is not riding any main tracks, has a slightly lower rate to ride.
So,
They build a separate track so the kids can ride a lot more and not have to worry about getting roosted or jumped on by a 450 wannabe pro, and they prep the track for them, and then you think it is reasonable to pay less?

Norcal just went up to $40/track in the last year. They don't differentiate for mini's, though I've never asked. Just ask for riders/spectators.
The increase at the track doesn't compare to the rest of the inflation I feel, but it is one of the things I won't cut !
I volunteer at our local non profit mx track, we charge $15 for wednesday evenings and $30 for a weekend day. And we arent getting rich I can tell you that. We dont have the grandest prep since we all volunteer and work full time jobs so thats why our prices are low but we are trying to keep moto alive. Most all other tracks in eastern pa are $30+ no matter the day of week.
