I bought a 23 Gas Gas 300EX for $8k out the door last week. We went back today and my son Joe bought a 23 KTM 250SX for $8.5k.

Nice!  I bought a 23 Gas Gas 300EX last week as well, $8200 out the door.  I tried to get a lower price, but the dealer was not having anything to do with that.

I just put a deposit on a 2023 KX450 that I'll be picking up tomorrow.  $6897 OTD but I have a hike to pick it up.  Rather than driving my gas guzzler truck, or towing a trailer, I think I'm just going to put a tarp down with some plywood in my beater SUV and then remove the wheels and forks and I should be able to sit it on its case and strap it upright.  I end up disassembling and regreasing everything anyway plus I need to send the suspension out for a revalve before riding it regardless so I'll just do the work in the parking lot.  I wanted to go blue this time but no deals and we already have 2 KXs in the garage.

I was trying to pickup a 2022 KTM 125 from a couple different dealers recently, and both were trying to hit me with $1,500-$1,600 in extra fees. I get having to charge some fees, but $500 for freight, $500 for prep, and $500 for a doc fee seemed crazy to me.

I was talking to a guy yesterday who paid 14k!  He was also telling me he is on some sort of a KTM lease program where he can trade his bike in on a regular basis.  Not too sure what that's about, but if its a legit program and someone that reads this goes for it, make sure to negotiate the price of the bike first!!!!

I think I am “the guy” that said he paid MSRP and just doesn’t understand how basic business works… except the problem is I actually WORK at AJAX Motorsports in Okc as a part time prep mechanic for ten years now, with my primary responsibilities being unloading new units off the delivery trucks, assembling, prepping and servicing new units and completing inspections on new units once sold…(the two collages above are just a sampling of the new bikes and utility units I happened to have in my phone at the minute…and certainly its possible that I coulda googled “new units being assembled” so I guess you’ll have to give the benefit of doubt that I’m NOT blowing smoke up anyone’s tailpipe! 😝)

Some dealerships pass misc fees onto the consumer and some don’t. It’s up to the consumer to decide what they’ll put up with or what fees they’re willing to pay…I could have bought a KTM, GASGAS or HUSKY for less than I just paid BUT I absolutely WANTED a 2023 YZ450F, (I am a YAMAHA guy!) and I was willing to spend whatever it took to get one…and if the dealership had said MSRP plus freight/prep, I woulda paid it because I wanted the YZ!
BUT a shyster dealership that would actually tell a potential customer on the phone about the  “we got it & you want it” fee is nothing more than unethical business practice specifically intended to GOUGE potential customers, and exactly why they are the only shop east of the Mississippi river with a 2023 YZ450 still in stock!

Sehorn Yamaha in Shawnee Okla is a long standing reputable dealership. Mack, (my salesman!) told me they would make $550 on my purchase, (then went a step further and PROVED it by showing me their dealer documentation/same stuff I see at AJAX). They just choose to treat their customers fairly/ethically and their standard practice is manufacturer’s MSRP… thats why I have bought YZ’s from them all the way back to the 80’s… 😎 👍❗️

(AND it sucks that the pendulum is now swinging the other way! This market is definitely hurting my ability to sell my older 450 now too!)

If you’ve been buying bikes from them for 40 years I can see some special treatment. I bet they charge fees to a regular Joe walking in for a new bike.

They could be like a dealer I use in WI, Port Yamaha. Went to them after contacting a dealer that advertised a bike for one price but then when went to buy they tried to add on all kinds of fees. Talked to Mike at Port and he sold me the bike I wanted with no fees besides tax. He’ll do it for anyone. Since then I have purchased 2 additional new bikes from him and a snowmobile trailer. Also have referred at least 6 others that have purchased bikes from him. There are some honest dealers out there…

Between tax, setup, doc, etc they really put it too you. I bought a 2023 ktm e 50 last fall and the 5499 turned into like $6700. I about hit the floor but my little boy was so happy I grunted some choice words to myself and wrote the check. I also later learned they were giving free Stacyc as part of a special ktm deal and that was not offered either.

These great deals on new bikes are having a major effect on used bikes in my area. I scan Craigslist daily and there are so many great deals on 1-2 year old bikes right now.

Yeah, I'm riding back with it in my SUV right now. I was first considering a '23 KTM 350 but the only decent price I found was on a '23 Gas Gas but I wanted the new engine. 2nd choice was a '23 YZ450f but again, no good deals. 2 weeks ago I found a KX450 for $8k OTD but when I came across this one for $5500 list I said, if I can get this for under $7k OTD it's a no brainer. I called them first thing Monday and they gave me $6897 so I put a deposit.

Even driving home I'm second guessing if it will be enough upgrade over my 2013 KX450f vs a YZ or 350 but for $3k less, this will do.

Dude, the YZ only beat the KX in a single shootout this year.  The KX won more than any other bike I saw.  It will be a massive improvement over your 13, and I have owned both.

5-31 end of Ktm rebates. Is Kawasaki the same date ?  These rebates hv used bike prices in the gutter.  Some guy wanted to buy my 05 cr125. I said 4,200 it comes with many extras including new tires, etc crank. He said I can buy a new Ktm for 7k. I said but a Ktm is not a Honda. The Honda is worth 6k + in 2 yrs. Of course he said the magazines said the cr125 was slow. I know he’s not even close to 1/2 as fast as me. But he thinks he needs a bike that a magazine says is fast.

COVID is over, your CR isn’t going to be worth $6k in 2 years unless it’s still in the crate and never been started!

Would you mind sharing the dealer details? I'm shopping for a new KX and the dealers in my area are only giving the rebate and then adding a bunch of fees back on.

Sure!  Big St. Charles Motorsports Dealership | St. Louis, MO | Motorsports (bigstcharlesmotorsports.com)  It looks like you are in Knoxville (which I passed through) so I'm not far from you in WNC.  It's definitely a hike to get it but I had the day off yesterday and it was only $140 in gas so I made the trip vs having it shipped. Call and ask for Blake as he was easy to deal with.  What's funny is I would have had to pay $400 more if I paid cash (I guess they get a kickback from their finance company) so I did the financing and will pay it off when the first payment is due since there is no prepayment penalty.  No sales tax if you don't register it.

I've been looking at this dealership for years, they always have some amazing deals, but never pulled the trigger since its such a hike. It is great to hear that they dont have a million BS fees

I believe Kawasaki is giving details on the all-new ‘24 KX on 6/6.  I would think they would continue to offer the rebates to help sell what some will see as an old bike at that point.

Yeah, it was an impressive dealership with 2 stories, full of pretty much everything you could imagine.  They do advertise an insane price $5499 and then have quite a few fees tacked on but even so, their OTD price was over $1,000 less than the next best price I could find.  I'm strange in that I love to drive so I just put on some podcasts and knocked it out.  Going to head home soon to grease everything and then put the KX back together so I can take it to the track to break it in tomorrow.

Thanks man! I'll be giving them a call. I found a dealer in NC that quoted me $7600 OTD. I can schedule some sales calls in Western KY for work and then shoot up to St. Louis to grab a bike. Appreciate the info.

Sure!

Thanks man! I'll be giving them a call. I found a dealer in NC that quoted me $7600 OTD. I can schedule some sales calls in Western KY for work and then shoot up to St. Louis to grab a bike. Appreciate the info.

Make sure to stop at reds donuts when you're here. Best in the world.
