A lot of riding a dirt bike is stopping that dirt bike, & 260 lbs, regardless of the propulsion method is still 260 lbs.

It makes sense that turning it into a corner would require less effort without all that spinning engine & drive system mass, but you gotta stop it 1st.  I have an early order on one in, but I'm currently more than a bit conflicted about taking delivery as our riding is stopping, starting, twisting & turning all day long on fairly technical single track trail, it's a lot different than an MX track.

Yep. The bit I rode the Alta, I would occasionally simply go faster than I could stop. A bit different. The 2-4 stroke transition much more complicated.

Pumping this battery full of electrons for the very first time! Electric bike prep is basically just charging it the night before. No sticky air filter oil mess to deal with. Love it.

Phone + app review video will be posted tomorrow morning 6am PST.

I'm impressed.  Looks like a great build quality.

No, it isn't disingenuous, and I'm curious how someone who hasn't even ridden the Stark yet feels qualified to tell me that it is so?  I've ridden the Stark, Alta, 450s, 250s (2 and 4 stroke), and 125s, I think I can probably give a pretty realistic interpretation of how the weight feels vs what it reads on the scale.

You’re not wrong, but I didn’t find that to be a problem even when I was playing around on some trails with it.  I did notice it a bit on the track, but that feeling was made worse than it really was because the forks were being overpowered by the shock.  The spot where I noticed it the most was trying to stop for a tight corner after a large triple (you can see me almost go over the berm in my review video), but again with a stiffer fork setting and something other than dry and dusty track conditions I don’t think it would have been nearly as much of a problem.

People that are assholes online are usually to chicken shit to back it up in person. I bet he’ll have tons of people stoked to see it.   Vital is not a good representation of the moto community.

You're right with all of that.

I'd say he'll have many people coming to him, plying him with questions .

I just hope he can get all the riding he wants to do, in, between the attention / questions he'll get.

Bryan's outlined how his work commitments will limit him to weekend riding, so a lot of us will have to wait for our various questions about range etc. Like, how long will you get when set in 450 power / 350 / 250 (F or 2T) 200 and on and on. I'd say it will vary Wildly. As other get theirs, with their varying usages, we'll get ever more useful info.

That's why I've always thought a Varg would do me , easily, for an entire days local riding. Anything more than a nice, torquey 300 (F or 2T") setting for me would be a waste, and, potentially bloody dangerous in my area. Seriously, the Only time I get past a 3rd of the throttle on my 500 2t, could be measured in the seconds, in a days local riding for me. And that's only when I'm coming home, doing a wheelie down the road on the side of the mountain here. At times, I can still be a silly old blighter. Though, even set in "80 HP Fear and Loathing Mode", well, I guess you'd Not be using much in the way of electrons if you where just noodling around, as it's all down to how far you open the throttle.

If I'm in working order when  my mates get theirs: sometime this year, staged over a few months between them,  from what I  have been told, I'll get some 'hands on' time with the Vargs. Can't wait for that.

Congrats for the new bike! I see you have Alta there as well. Can you make little comparison between them when you have ridden you new bike?

Heading to Barona Oaks tomorrow for the first ride on my Varg!

Please get a photo of the 200 people standing around your pit looking at the bike. Its gonna be one for the books

Enjoy your ride Brian. I had a KTM freeride E-XC. A fun toy, but nowhere as fun as what you have now.

I just KNOW you have the power and full size chassis, refinements I wanted back then... and a bit more range.Wink So envious.

When not powered, The Freeride felt a bit top heavy. I'd be curious how the Varg handles when zooming downhill ( powered off )

To those concerned about the weight, Geez... ever had fun with a BMW 1250, ol' LC4 or an XR600 ?

Tortelli is no clown and the Varg chassis might be a little more advanced than the XR600. Just a bit. And the XR was fun.

They have classes to teach techniques for lighter/ less strong riders to handle overweight bikes. There is no shame picking up more skills.

And yes, a LIGHTER version, maybe a bit smaller..as a play bike/pit bike ... could be nice as well in the future.

Fingers crossed we will also get an enduro specific version with armored skid plate for pretend Carl's Dinner without fearing for the battery.

It's a lot heavier now

The real question is ....do you want the extra range or the weight , most people want both but that's not possible , so is it ok to have that extra range in return for the weight ? Almost everyone is concerned with range , many are about weight, it seems like maybe the right trade off ?

I'm thinking that if Bryan is ok with the weight of his Alta (and he loves it), then he's going to be fine with the weight of this Stark.

You need to include 250 2 strokes...

Yamaha YZ250: Wet weight 227lbs MSRP $7,899

If you want a bike with a wider power band, ride a 450f, but it will be heavier, if you want a bike with linear power ride a Stark, but it will be even heavier.

Its a free market, your choice!

Man, I really hope to see someone review one of these in the sand.

AND

If they ever dropped a lighter 125/250 version of the varg, I'd be seriously debating my financial priorities.

What sucks the most with motocross? At least for me, the oil, airfilters and top end work (or paying for someone to do it, but haven't done it). Not sure I like the sound, but this is the future and it will be my future too. I will not miss a greasy garage.

I just want to put something into perspective.

ICE

Oil change - 30min @10-15hrs

Air filter - 1hr @ when dirty

Top end 3-5hrs @ 50-200hrs

Ready - Instantly

Varg

Charge time 1-2 hrs for 6hrs of ride time.@ 200hrs with a constant 6hr 200/6 cycle you would have 33.3 cycles on your pack.

Thats 33-66hrs you would have spent charging you varg to get 200hrs of ride time.

Whether you want to "wrench" or "wait" the time invested. This is not a dig at either platform, just a shitty comparison.

You don't have to sit there and stare at the bike while it charges, you can do something else.

If I could walk into a dealer right now and out with a stark I'd probably be buying one, the idea of just unloading it and plugging it in is very attractive to me right now.

Bryan, thanks for staying on top of this product launch and giving us a pretty damn thorough “owners take” on the experience. Let me know when you’re gonna be out at Pala or GH…or wherever.

Enjoy your new Electric Ride.

Manny

Edit: for some reason I thought you were in OR.

You also have to drive someplace to buy the gas. Some people will drive a couple hours to pick up (2) 5 gallon cans of race gas. You can just charge the varg in your garage while you do whatever else you want.  Gas for a generator  should go farther per gallon than in a bike. And no need for race gas. WHen I posted my pole , I think it was around 60% or so that only went through a single tank during a day of riding. So if You are only using 1 tank of gas or a single charge of battery. The time charging doesn't matter anymore.

Most people do not buy the factory edition bikes because they cost less, or weigh less, or have a longer range do they?  Pricewise the Varg is more in range of those bikes . And the big benefit a lot of the people who are buying one for is the lack of sound. Being able to have their own track.

Yeah I think the time invested for the stark should just be 15 seconds per charge not the whole charge time.

No, not at all. Sometimes between motos you only have a few minutes after washing and a handlebar change say..

It has to be compared directly with refueling time for an IC bike.

Remember, Stark Vargs are by far the best MX bikes ever made and need no concessions.

The list price comparison doesn't include the cost of consumables on a 4 stroke

Engine oil, airfilter cleaner ,airfilter oil, oil filters , top ends ,air filters , in a 2 stroke premix as well , , and super plus unleaded fuel

Soon adds up to the difference.

Charging a stark is pretty cheap

You do bike maintenance between motos? Maybe if you ran a quality oil like rotella or delo you would be able to make it through a full day without an oil change.

Trust me when I tell you that you'll get a pretty cool reception if come into the house with amorous intention & your hands are greasy & you smell like gasoline.   Unless you married unusually well ...

Please describe the best motocross bike ever made. Let us know what You are comparing the Varg to. One bike that checks off all of your requirements for the Varg to be considered the best bike.
