I grew up and was into racing in the 90’s/ early 2000’s
i miss crazy graphics and stickers of the 90’s, crazy bright gear and cool videos like crusty and terrafirma, of the best riders play riding and partying..
what generation, and what about it do you miss?
I miss the sound of JS259's 125 pinned, outdoors...
125 pro class racing….
Non fire safe cigarettes
I miss racing without social media. It's a double edged sword though. I dig reading most people's takes on the racing but my god I could do with less morons, fanboys, and trolls.
The Shop

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
If it's that huge of a downside for you...easily solved if you just avoid social media.
I miss freeride videos from a top SX guy with AFI playing in the background!
The sound…
The smell…
James ripping thru the pack.
I miss the simplicity of the 90s etc decade itself, in all things... Just about everything was better back then (other than the coverage), so by default was the sport of MX - simply by existing at that time.
Something something, baby with the bathwater. I'm not the type of person to quit something because of one bad element. You can only make things better by addressing their weaknesses.
Steel City.
Probably more the 70s and 80s, but I miss the ability for a local pro to show up at his local national track and challenge for the top ten or even the top 5. Too many reasons why that rarely happens now, but it sure was pretty cool when it did back in the day…….
45 minute motos, box vans and being able to walk through the pits.
Remember that deep sound a factory two stroke made when under a load, hitting the face of a triple or finish line jump? I miss that.
2 strokes going through whoops
The first time I heard a 250f going through the whoops at a supercross it sounded like a damn seal
Late 90s early 2000s here. I grew up in corona and back then it was motorcycle Mecca. 10 tracks and 40 mins away in any direction. Riding at white sands or Beaumont and watching the top guys hit all the step ups and wall jumps. We were free riding back in Elsinore and kdub and ally semar were riding the hills. They hung out and chatted with us for 10 mins and then took us on a ride where they jumped this massive step up. Ally did it on kdubs yz125 with a cast on. Those are memories you never forget. Also the gfi supercross warm up race they use to have at perris raceway. Sitting up on the hill watching the top level guys race. Brraaappppp
My friends I used to regularly see at local races
Walking anywhere I want on the track at any time to check out the track for the next moto.
Being so excited to go racing I couldn't sleep
No adult responsibilities to distract me from riding
The time before hole shot devices existed
The time before there were 38 classes
The time amateur races had more laps
Pit Row
500CC two strokes on the start. That's a sound of beauty.
Watching a really good 500cc rider ride one.
Youth
I've got some great memories of some of our local guys mixing it up towards the front. Guys like Chuck sun ( when he did the privateer thing ) , his brother Ron , Phil and Mike Larson , Eric Eaton, Jimmy Anderson, Eric Hall , Jason McCormick, Ryan Huffman , Lance Smail. Hoping we get to see Levi Kitchen do good up there this year.
Buying a pair of kx80s in a crate for 1,000.00
Magoo…Ward…Bailey
Plymouth
The sounds of the 2 stroke starts and first couple laps at Glen Helen. Especially the 125's sounding like a massive swarm of killer bees.
Being able to walk around an outdoor national track, through out the races, along the track edge, and actually watch them ride up close. Had my beer in my daypack and never sat down, except between the motos.
Factory 2 strokes, no fear gear, helmet fins
Honda ATCs.. 250r, 350x, 70/90/110s
7-11 chili cheese dogs and nachos.
Short lines at In-n-Out
I need to dig through my family pictures. We have a ton of pictures of my brothers just walking up to box vans in the pits at Saddleback for autographs/pictures with Wardy, RJ, etc…
Late 90’s helmet fins. Don’t know why but man I thought those things were rad
