Gaerne is releasing new boots. the SG-22's. My local shop showed me something a week ago but this is the first I've seen of it posted publicly on an italian site. They look.....different. It will be interesting to see if this boot is targeted as a replacement to the SG-12. Judging by the price point being $100 more I would assume it will be their new premium boot. The 3D holes and channels in the liner could be nice if they do help vent at all. I was hoping they would release a similar design to the SG-12 with a molded sole similar to the astars tech 7 and 10. I like how the molded soles cut down on the overall size of the boot as well as increase the smoothness of the boot lines reducing edges to catch the dirt and twist your ankle. I want to try Tech 7s but the ankle straps won't go tight enough on my foot.

Here's the description.
"Soul, mind and body focused on a single goal: to create a high-performance boot, capable of combining Made in Italy craftsmanship with cutting-edge materials and technical solutions.
Commitment, strength, power of actions and decisions.
The English term "horsepower" does not refer only to horsepower, but to an attitude that can make a difference.
It was this element that made the first steps of the SG.22 project move.
Whether it's a track or your own path, our boots will help you overcome any challenge with style and confidence.
The Aluminum Superlight Buckles feature a new painted finish with exposed detailing.
The upper closing lever can be positioned in three positions.
The Air Vents facilitate the evacuation of heat and humidity and work in synergy with the new internal lining equipped with 3D holes and channels.
The new 3D Main Body Toe Box offers a preformed three-dimensional manufacturing with a single joint element near the closing lever on the outside.
This conformation allows to reduce the height between the sole and the rear derailleur, increasing the speed of shifting
Two positions for the new Frontal Shin Guard front plate which allows you to obtain multiple configurations thanks also to the upper closing lever, thus allowing easy insertion of the knee protectors.
The new Steel Bumper 1.0 toe cap adopts reduced thicknesses without sacrificing the protective capacity but containing the weight
The shaft in the inner area features Grip Guard 1.0 elements equipped with a compound developed with professional riders.
The function is twofold: protection and optimizing the friction coefficient for an optimal driving feeling.
Sole equipped with dual density inserts, one capable of offering optimal grip with the footpegs and unprecedented durability, the other capable of guaranteeing cushion and traction when walking.
The new Razorback offers improved movement geometries that allow the boot to better copy the movements of the ankle.
The Dual Stage Pivot System 1.0 protects the ankle with two stops limiting hyperextension, hyperflexion and lateral movements.
The Microshock bead has a rubber compound with differentiated densities, to provide a cushioning effect in micro-impacts when cornering."

those look sick. I really wanted to like my sg12s but the ankle protection was terrible for me compared to my tech 10s
Interesting, was a Gaerne SG12 guy for years but now in a tech 10. Just feel better around my weak ankles. Definitely like to check out a new Gaerne boot though.
Love my sg 12 but been looking to upgrade
Very interesting... I do kinda wish they would go back to having black for logos and accents on the white boot, the grey doesn't add enough contrast. Still a good looking boot though.

Toe looks a lot like the SG12 before the redesign 8 or so years ago.
They look good, that’s for sure. Price a little steep for me. I’ll stick with tech 7’s.
Wonder when they'll be released? I need to replace my SG-12s soon.
Cool but they look way worse than the SG12s
The toe box looks kinda thick, that can make it hard to get under the shifter. Otherwise they look great!
Their instagram says they will be unveiled tomorrow.

I like the look of gaerne but the steel toe caps put me off. Looks outdated and will look terrible when they go rusty.
I’ve had multiple pair and don’t recall any of them rusting. But I do agree the welted sole albeit replaceable and durable is outdated. I’ve had multiple boots and all of the uppers have worn out before the sole. I don’t like the added length as I already wear larger boots or the ridge it creates as I feel it’s caused me a few twisted ankles in simple wash outs.
That ridge from the welt soles looks smaller in the picture than the SG12 but that could be an optical illusion. I know those ridges help when pushing a bike up a steep hill so I have wondered if they increase the injury potential when the boot digs into the ground in a crash.
looking forward to another new pair of Gaerne boots! For me they are the most comfortable and I hope they expand the color selection. I agree above the white and grey should go back to white with black. My SG12s last forever and love the traditional sole and especially the metal toe cap!
1990s called and wanted their sewn on soles back
The toe caps come off easily. I've taken mine off and have had zero problems. It's also what most of the pro guys do.
thank you. and just in time for some new boots....
You can take them off. Even says something about it in the little booklet that comes with the SG-12s
Pit Row
The SG12s were the best boot I ever wore except the foot area just squeezed my top outer foot so dang much I can’t wear them.
Mine are currently available in the Bazaar section
molded and bonded soles are not for me, understand how some folks could like them, but I like to be able to replace the sole and enjoy the durability these boots have. when spending 500+ bucks on a boot, I expect they should last longer than a season and being able to resole gaernes means they do last. Astars will love to sell you not made in Italy cheap glued sole boots, which cost far less to make and last half as long, for more than welt construction boots though.
Those look sweet! But I just can’t get past the price and simplicity of the SRS on my Sidi’s…for $45 I can have my boots resoled in 20 minutes at my house…that is what keeps me coming back to Sidi’s….and they are super comfortable and great boots.
I've smashed one on a rock once. I straightened it and was good to go, but never had one fall off.
Good to hear. I've got one pretty bad ankle and I just switched to Tech 10's. Still new in the box. How was the break in on them?
My guy, he means they come off easy as in "they are easily removable" not that they fall off lol
Very short IMO. Raced in them first day I bought them. I always stayed away from them because of sole problems but so far have found them to be wearing the same as my SG12s. I think if you ride on the balls of your feet they do well. I personally did size up in the T10 though. Wore a size 10 for years and now in 11. Not sure why.
They are a type of aluminum, and don't rust.

800 dollars lmao they're smoking the finest crack rock on earth.
Damn, they are 800 bucks! fuck that.
Who is the blow hard down thumbing peoples opinions on the high price? Lol..
They aren't getting 800 from me. Nothing cutting edge to warrant that absurd price point.
Honestly not a clue man, welcome to vital lol. I'd truly love to hear the pay-slave perspective on this too.
