Omg……believe me if any one of them thought that was even close to the case they’d be doing it based on the money that can be made.  Unfortunately you think it’s easy just like non-moto people think motocross and Supercross is simple.  You just turn the throttle and go right!?

LOL, a loaded poll to beat Steve.

Simply having heard of Quartararo's name isn't the true heart of their conversation. That was pushed by Weege/JT because they know Steve was right.

The standard MX/SX fan might have heard the Quartararo name but they don't care about his opinion of SX/MX. Steve is also correct in that history has shown celebrities attending events does nothing to grow the sport. Nothing. Fans would have greatly preferred a Lechien interwiew but that wasn't going too happen, he is a Monster/Kawi supported guy and his interview would not have gained the press anything.

BUT no way was Quartararo not going to be interviewed. It was a Monster/Yamaha event.....and the press guys had to kiss the Monster/Yamaha/Feld Entertainment ring if they want to cash further paychecks.

Look how much buzz this interview generated. Last year they interviewed Chuck Sun at Washougal, and nobody said a word after.

This whole rant by Steve was just so dumb, and I remain steadfast in my belief that JT and Weege were and are correct in their opinion of who knows of this dude.  One the one hand Steve calls our sport this tiny little niche sport few people know about, yet insinuates that people aren't aware of one of MotoGP's biggest and brightest stars in a sport that absolutely dwarfs American MX/SX.  I mean it isn't even close, not even comparable.  And MotoGP racing itself, is consistently better and closer than MX/SX, and the whole presentation of MotoGP (and 2 and 3) is far superior.  Those guys are bad dudes, as are the top guys in SX and MX. For anyone to suggest that a top MX guy could jump on a MotoGP bike and be competitive in short order are so far off the mark it isn't even funny.  Matthes likes to hold up JMB as an example, yet as someone has already mentioned he had 82 starts and not one podium. JMB was also an exceptionally rare talent that I recall was also amazing on a trials bike. I found this whole debate full of dumb, right down to his inability to pronounce his name, intentionally obviously. I listen to Pulp often and appreciate much of the content and the guests and hosts, but this particular rant was not my cup of tea.

For that matter, most dirt bike owners know nothing of pro racing on dirt or pavement. Could give a solitary shit.

Nope. When I tried to think of current moto gp riders Rossi and Marquez were the only names to come to mind.

Back in the 80s and 90s when I subscribed to cycle news I knew what was going on in the road racing world. Now that magazines are nearly extinct the only thing I am up on is mx and that I have to seek out.

Rossi retired end of 2021.Sad

Marquez is only another major injury away from doing the same Sad

I don't think we are getting any profound information out of either interview. Do you want nostalgia? then let's talk to Lechien and hear his thoughts. I've been around this sport a while, but I'm not all that curious what Lechien is up to now. I think it's cool to see other racers at the highest level be stoked on SX.

MotoGP is super entertaining, non stop action and the races are relatively short. Enough off track bs to fill the gaps, younger classes are even more exciting, and bikes on the factory edge.. Great stuff

Correction not that many in the USA watch it. Kinda like Soccer, World Wide Sport, but in the USA it’s all about Football. That being said I’ve heard of him tried to watch Moto GP last year, but just couldn’t hang.

Moto fans tend to be uneducated and incurious. And jingoistic. If it's "foreign", they ain't interested. It has to be inferior cuz God only loves Murrica.

Many, like you, aren't that way, though.

Exactly this. The MotoGP 3 class is crazy!! A guy can go from 1st to 9th in one corner. Amazeballs racing and when you get to the big boys class and they are racing literally beside each other at 300 km per hour, I mean....

If those poll was before San Diego, the results would have been very different.

He was at Pala yesterday and he's not even close to fast 40 pace. Wouldn't win the C class at a local race. Was 10 seconds a lap slower than the top 85/supermini kids.

Yeah.  I bet with a looming MotoGP season, he's going to risk injury during a press junket to chase laptimes.

I don't know what he is capable of, but I'd be foolish to assume that his time was his actual limit.

This is what the big majority thinks, including Matthes. I have heard him say multiple times that engineers from the road racing world usually doesn't work in MX/SX because on the pavement the grip is always the same.

Allow me to facepalm.

I got into track day riding on a GSX-R 600 two years ago and it completely changed the way i respect road racers overall (including national level riders on superbikes).

Seems no one on pulp has, how about vital?

Yes, only because of my google chrome homepage that has different articles and storylines. I get the occasional motogp article that has his name in it. Other than that no, I don't follow motogp, only WSX and our series in america.

Whats funny is if you polled the world on who knows Fabio Quartararo and who knows Eli Tomac you would get 100x more people who know who Fabio is.

I notice this within my circle too though guys that are more into street/dual sport riding usually ride dirt bikes too. Guys that are more into dirt bikes almost never have street bikes or any interest in it.

Jim Roach, manager for Yamaha US Racing who oversee’s the Star racing team previouly was at Graves Racing, the multi time AMA Superbike championship winning race team.  Haha.  Mathes knows this or at least he should.

Regardless of who knows who, motorcycle racing is motorcycle racing.  Good tuners and mechanics  carry over.  Yoshimura has a lot of roadrace wins and championships and builds some nice dirt bike parts.  Tom Halverson at Yamaha was the mechanic for Johnny O and the white Mugen back in the good ole days and now has a huge part in Yamahas current MotoAmerica winning program.   Riders pick a discipline but I bet most could be really good on dirt or pavement if they chose one over the other.  It’s balance, throttle control, fitness and balls in most motorcycle racing disciplines.

I have to respectfully disagree, MotoGP riders seem a breed apart. World championship trials as well perhaps.

Clips of Fabio riding Cahuilla w/ Poto shows he can mx better than 90% of most, regardless if they've heard of him or not.

I encourage anyone who doesn't watch moto gp to follow a season for a bit.

There’s no way you really believe that. The reason why the privateers don’t “jump” over to street bike racing is purely because the street is much more elitist and exclusive, you can’t just buy a bike a come up through the ranks like anyone can in moto. Also our guys want to compete in the gnarliest, most physically demanding sport known to man. They are elite athletes, if they wanted to ride street bikes, they could go down to the shop and get a harley and rip it down the highway wide open. Probably even more thrilling/risky than racing the stupid things.

Surely you are just trying to wind people up now.

If you aren’t trying to stir the pot for fun, then you are just a fool

trust me, every privateer would rather be running up from in MotoGP and making millions of dollars.
