How many times did he go off the track in practice?? At least twice by my count and I didn't see free practice. He ALWAYS rides over his head. He could have 2 titles by now if he didn't.
Yeah, running mid pack at best on a mid-level team in MXGP would not really help him. Especially with that field on those tracks. Other than getting away from the noise, I guess. MX2 was the fantasy option. My bad. Not sure what the kid can do. It's kind of sad considering he's only 24
What year was that? I remember watching it. Seemed like he was destined for big things. He looked so much better that day, then he did last night.
He looks so out of sorts every time he’s on that 250.
I think the only chance to salvage any kind of career is to move to 450s.
250s is a young man’s game. He needs to step up to the 450 and see if he can settle things down and be competitive.
He’s got all the talent in the world. But he can’t even make it through a lap, let alone a season. And last night he didn’t even make it to turn 1.
Another season over.
Lots of Forkner haters here. Seems like a good person, I don't get it. Sure he has had some bad crashes, he's also as fast as anyone in the field. Shit happens, That split start imo is asking for trouble, although I don't see that as what caused this accident. Bad rut, with a hook sent him into Macadoo's rear wheel with a little help from Hampshire. Sucks, because he was one of the few who could challenge Jettson.

2016.
Edit: IMO, he's in a tough spot. Move up to the 450 and if he doesn't perform, factory teams will pass on him. Very limited amount of factory seats in the 450 class.
Let's let the kid heal. He didn't want to race again even before the last injury. And I can tell you that he is not going over seas.
He should just take adavantage of the new rules and make as much money racing 250's as he can. He isn't going to get any kind of ride on a 450 at this point. Not sure he has a factory ride after this season.
I’ve broke my fib twice and went to the doctor the next day both times. First time I stayed at the race all day and used a bicycle to get around. Second time I loaded my stuff and drove home. He could easily have had a broken leg. Hope not.
It's not a back or neck injury. If it is a tib/ fib why wouldn't he sit up? More comfortable than laying in dirt. I sat up when I broke both. Sat up with my femur sticking out of my thigh. Your comment makes no sense. Shouldn't he have crawled into a fetal position on live TV??
Let's hope that's all it is. A rider can overcome that and he is no stranger to metal in his body.
I would expect it means the end of another supercross season.
When he was on the ground he was so PO'd.
Almost like the last things Mitch told him before going to the line was: "Austin, finish 1st or last but just don't crash out".
If that's the case then it's minimum 6 weeks but could be longer.
Fibula only is one thing but tib/fib combined is a whole different animal.
However, it’s seems it’s not that after all
What if this is it? What if this is the end of Forkners career? What is he going to do? Does he have any other skills/trades aside from being a Supercross/Motocross racer? This makes me very sad. I really like the kid.
He can’t stay off the ground on a 250. Do you really think he can do better on a bigger, faster bike against tougher competition?
If he's able to ride again this season Mitch should let him try Roczen's 450 he's trying to sell. Are him and Ken about the same size? Maybe Ken's set up might help him a little?
He seems to like tattoos, shooting guns and riding his bicycle. Maybe the BMX or mountain biking world would be better for him. But race teams are business and they are in the business of winning. Not sure how a team ever wins anything if your guy is always laid up on the couch for the season. At some point they have to cut their losses.
As far as the sketchy in practice comments even a lot of the top 450 guys were having trouble with the tricky track conditions. Jett crashed twice in practice, Anderson, AC, Plessinger… etc
I’m gutted for the guy, feel so bad for him not to mention that racing would be much better with him there.
Pit Row
My kid broke his tib/fib on his fifth birthday and he rode 2 up with me 12 miles back to the truck. It didn't feel great but I'm sure he would have been delighted to be on the back of a mule for a short jaunt instead.
I don't know why I am, but I've always been a fan of the kid. It absolutely sucks to see this happen over and over. At least a few years ago, he didn't end his seasons until the very end after he had put in several great rides. Nowadays, he's a ticking time bomb. At this point I don't know how to hold out any more hope for him to put together a full, healthy season.
If you watch the replay from when they are waiting for the gate to drop, everybody else is holding completely still and is focused on the gate, but he's sitting there spazzing out, he can't just hold still and focus for one second.
Man, we have some heavy opinionated people in here. Shit deal all the way around for Austin. Here’s to hoping this isn’t severe and he can be back on the bike soon. One could think he is mentally in a gutter and I hope he can rebound and come back swinging. He has a lot of haters to prove wrong.
What’s wrong with tattoos, guns, and bicycles?
What are the chances we see Ryder d or Jett fill in?
Mitch has a 450 for him. It’s for sale as we speak
The last thing anyone needs are two Jett’s on the track
That was all Forkner last night just being Forkner.
The guy is to old what 25 to be doing stupid shit like that.
He took a hard hit on his right side and it looked like his right arm was awkwardly under his hip during the impact.
His family has a pretty successful pig farm at home.
