Hopefully Jo learned a lesson. He played nice w Jett when he probably could've made a slightly aggressive pass stick and pull away in Moto 1. Instead, Jett kept racing him knowing the Jo wasn't going to give him contact. And all he got for being a nice guy was getting smacked by Hunter. Those guys can be your buddies but when it's race time, go do your job. Apparently the Lawrence boys aren't too worried about him, so hopefully now he knows.

Hunter Lawrence: "I didn't want to hit him that haad".

So there is no doubt it was intentional.

That's racing boys and girls. I see no problem with it. Like to see Jo return the favor in the future.

Hmm chance to get 2nd in an outdoor title
Chance to get a large bonus
Chance to go 1-2 in a major championship with your brother
Chance for your sponsor to go 1-2 in a major championship!

I would've gone for it too

I would understand if my friend had the shits with me but I would also hope he would understand why it happened..

It wasn’t a T bone. Two guys racing for the line and Shimoda failed to yield for the guy on the inside. It was contact at the same angle while racing for a line. Nothing for hunter to apologize about. This is far from a Barcia T Bone
Curious...what previous user names did you post under?
J Sloan, Sore Loser and Braaposphere....and it's time for this version to go buh buh.....

His pass on joe looks no different than bams pass on Fernandez. Other than the fact that there was No protest, no DQ, no crying.

I mean no different except for Hunter's was to make a pass at the apex of a turn for 2nd place in a national title and Ferrandis had made the move on Barcia before the corner and Barcia didn't let off and went off track and out to meet Ferrandis on the exit for 8th (?) position in one race..

Apart from that no different

From a fan perspective I don’t like all the friends crapt, screw that guy he’s your enemy! This is racing and money and teams are on the line, last race of the year… hello bonus! Respect is one thing in this sport, be friends when you retire. I remember Ricky at js7 18th bday party say… we aren’t best buds but I’ll show my support at these things!

I just want to hear jo call hunter The Kamikaze on the next podium speach. I’m a fan of both so it would be cool for jo to come out of nowhere and return the nickname favor.

This. It was a nothing move and any racer who wouldn't go for it shouldn't be out there

Hunter got out of control going down the hill and made the pass probably not as clean as he wanted to.

I thought it was disgusting, but nothing more than a racing incident. I'd hope he owned it either by apologising to Joe or doing a Barcia saying I'm just dirty and thats how I race. Unfortunately he did neither. Pretty disapointed with the kid, but oh well, we all make mistakes, let's move on.

By apologising I mean "man I got a bit out of control, didn't mean to hit you that hard. I know you must be pissed right now but I hope we can keep racing clean after this. Just got a bit squirrely you know?" We all have done it, just own it.

I was with the thought that Hunter had just lost control going down the hill and couldn't brake in time for the turn. But after seeing the video Maverick posted I guess that's not the case. I said it before and I'll say it again, it has to take a mental toll on Hunter being in his younger brothers shadow. You know that shit eats at him. I hope Jo wins both titles next year...no more Mr. Nice Guy Shimoda is about to be unleashed come 2023. Can't wait.

Pretend it was Shimoda on the inside, Jett and on the outside. Jett goes down and gets hurt (which coulda happened to Shimoda) , then Shimoda outraces Hunter and is National champ. I’m fine with that. Instead he raced Jett clean and got cleaned out by Hunter, bad choice IMO.
LOL.

Shimoda had made a girly full track deviation/punt/block move on Jett a few laps earlier.

Hunter would have seen that dirt.

Aaaand I raced in the very late 60's and am still lining up.

Not a T Bone. Not even close. Just one guy going into a corner where there was no room for two.

Not a real smart percentage move as both might have gone down or a radiator or two might have been beaten up. If both guys stayed up it would be a ballsy aggressive move by Hunter. If Hunter went down it would have been Jo's Thug Life moment.

Hunter has a PR issue after this. Jo has said all the right things and has really come out of it well particularly after gapping everyone in race two. Hunter has said the right stuff too, but needs to humbly ask for his friend's forgiveness.

You are right I don't race anymore. about 8 years since I last lined up. But now that you measured yours and brought your half inch what is your point? Everyone should race like the 51. Anything goes? He he was out of control? I have no problem with a differing point of view, but we can all insult each other all day, doesn't make either of us right but having no point makes you an A hole regardless.

Shimoda catches a bump at the top of the hill, , and goes off to the right slightly, as Hunter gets a good run over the top, and goes for the gap that at that point is half the track wide.

As Shimoda gathers it up he races back to the inside to cover off the line but at that point, Hunter has already committed, and is also going downhill , at rate, he cant just back out of it , because he is already there and Shimoda comes across and shuts the door .

Racing incident at best ,and if not, Shimoda has to shoulder some blame, as he made the mistake and open the door.

And i am a Shimoda fan, but he should have let it go , maybe had he not realised he was so close, he might have not risked the contact.

And if Hunter hadnt have gone for it , he may as well not line up for the race.

It was one of the best hard, professional passes I've seen.

It served notice to other riders.

Greasy… Jo with the ultimate f you with the win and second points didn’t have to get it done by hitting people. All year Jo had epic come from behind rides. Deserved it way more than cry baby Hunter!

Jo def owes him one. Hope he gets revenge when Hunter is going to come off worse. IMO it looked like Hunter was in panic mode to get past Jo, dirty pass - mmm nah, overly aggressive - oh yes.

Not a fan of Jo or and of the brothers but I am a fan of good clean (ish), hard racing.

There was no significant gain to be had for Hunter unless Shimoda was unable to finish the race. Even then, in would only bump Hunter up to 2nd in points instead of 3rd (which he had previously implied wasn't that important to him since the title wasn't a possibility).
Strategically, I think it was a dumb move since there was no possible reward of significance. He could have crashed himself, injured himself, or damaged his own bike. Of course it could have resulted in Joe being hurt in addition to putting him on the ground. Shimoda had never done that to Hunter, so I'm labeling it a dumb move that was also a dick move. He confirmed that he made the move intentionally and that he knew there would be contact. He made no mention of it being dumb or wrong. This, combined with his incorrect assumption that Styles Roberts crossed jumped him at Southwick, the hissy fit he threw over it, the hypocrisy, and couple of other things has me thinking Hunter Lawrence is a little douchebag. He's nothing like Jett. Jett is a good soul and full of talent. Hunter will never achieve what Jett has already achieved. Maybe you disagree with me, but from what I've seen, this is what I think. Hopefully I see things that change my mind.

I am surprised there are no threads on this. My take is Hunter was in his own head and if he didn't hit him in that corner it would have came anyway. A bit greasy in my opinion, but money was on the line. Hunter seems to be pretty hot headed and being the older/slower brother is something he will have to come to terms with or he will always have issues. IMO

In America most men work in a office with women. So there a bit on the soft side. Have you noticed they like riders that barely say anything. Because there not allowed to ever speak there mind like men in the past. Could you imagine Hannah or Emig racing now. Emig had a great line , I,m the fastest 125 rider in the world so get ready. Fan boys would blow up on Jeff. They want a corporate speaking quite rider that wouldn’t think of making contact. Because that’s there personality. I pretty much just watch the high lights or a moto if it was good. I,d rather go ride since I,m the fastest 04 cr125 rider in the World. While my Hot 26 yr old chic laughs at Spode riders when I blow there bars off. Haha
