I would ride anyway and not even give a second thought. A 750 watt ebike isn't going to damage anything, period. My Luna X2 you could raise the argument because I can break the rear wheel loose if I really wanted to (2500 watts) but I don't have mtb trails near me so it doesn't matter in my case. Even still, with a 2500 watt ebike you would have to try like hell to leave any sort of imprint on a trail so a normal ebike, no freakin' way.
Riding where not allowed has nothing to do with trail damage.
Follow the law or don't.

There will always be resistance from someone to not allow motorcycles, eMTB, MTB, etc because some people just want the trail for themselves to hike. That is a legal argument. Civil disobedience doesn't help that argument.

Never been on a MTB e-bike.

Would you say the speed you can maintain everywhere is much higher (due to the e-motor), so even 'boring' trails become fun, small bumps that didn't do anything are suddenly small launch pads due to 50% higher speed?

Or is the above wishful thinking? Is it really about easier to climb and same fun on the way down?

The best part of mtb is standing up bombing down hill- the ebike gets you back up the hill to do it again, and makes the climbing fun rather than a chore. Top speeds down hill are about the same, doesn't really change jumping, but around here average speeds are about twice as fast and I go about 4x longer with 4x the elevation gain on the ebike.

Alright bros, heres my dilemma. The local dealer will do a straight trade for a Levo comp alloy. In all honesty I’d rather have the cash but feel like I’ll be sitting on this bike tryin to sell it for awhile. The bike I’m lookin to sell/trade is a 2020 Tx300i. Put an FC tank on it with factory husky wheels (19” rear). Has 6.8 hours on it. With knee replacement comin up, how realistic is having a mountain bike? I look at it as good PT. I’m thinkin if I can straight trade but keep the factory wheelset I might do it. Should be able to sell those. What would y’all do in this situation?

I see you have two questions:
1. Will you use the ebike? How are you going to rehab? Gym? My ebike supplements my gym. If it gets you off the couch, and the money makes sense, I think you already know the answer!
2. Is it a good deal? Trade, cash, etc... I don't know. I think the answer to the first question reduces this issue to haggling.

Go for it! Enjoy!

just rode this morning. The main trail up is a mother effer. I did have a couple guys pass me on ebikes going up. Im on a ibis ripmo af pedal bike. I love the satisfaction of climbing up with no help. Some days im like i could do this 4 times if i had an ebike and get a hell of a work out in. Out here in az there is lots of pedaling but fun stuff going down, but your going to have to pedal to get there. I do large group rides with locals around my area and myself being new to arizona its a good way to meet new people and new trails. So far I've only seen one bike on my 5-6 rides I've done with them. I don't care what you ride as long as your having fun and just respect the slower guys climbing are way to the top. Out here in arizona most guys ride levos. Specialized bikes, evil, tend to be the most popular bikes out here where in so cal it seems to be yt and santa cruz. just wish they didn't cost as much as a car!

I actually found the more euro-centric forum www.emtbforums.com to be the most active eMTB forum. I live in NorCal and have a Trek Rail for going on a year now. It's the most fun I have had on a bicycle since I was 10 years old.

I have had road bikes and early generation MTB and never really found them much fun. I tried to get interested in the newer slack geometry 29er bikes during the pandemic and have both a hardtail and full sus. But the instant I got on the eMTB I was hooked. It's my jam. You can dial in how much you want to suffer any given day.

I am not a big dirt jumper but it's just plain fun to scoot down some hills, pedal up leisurely and then do it again.

Quick story- I've been in the bicycle industry for FAR too long (work, ex racer, etc). I love moto and have moto'd all my life. Got married, had kids, got fat, got depressed...you know...the usual. hahahaha. I got divorced in 2016 and it took me 5 years to figure out that "scratching that itch" was needed. Got a CRF250 and loved it. Bought an analog MTB...hated it. Buddy from a bike company told me "borrow one of our eMTB's...I'm pretty sure you'll hardly ride your moto anymore". I laughed at him....until I borrowed one for the weekend. That following Monday I went and bought one. It was by far the best experience I've had on a bicycle in 15-20+ years. There's a moto aspect to it with the motor modes, a little noise to it (higher RPM sound the faster you go) shifting and dropping the post, etc... It makes you think, it makes you breathe and it makes you happy. I can 100% promise you this.
I'm 50yrs old, 5'10" and 250lbs (down from 290) and I rode 20miles yesterday all off road. I got a good work out, did a jump line, carved some turns and was able to talk with the homies at the same time.

FYI- I've ridden my CRF three times since I've owned the eMTB. Also- people here will tell you to get the better model, etc. I have a bike that retails for $4950.00 with an E8000 motor and I have never been limited to what I can do on the trails. I slowly add to it when I feel necessary (renthal bars, ODI grips, etc).

I wish you luck.

I’m an old broken up washed up motocrosser that discovered E-MTBs. I have a 21 Turbo Levo Comp that I ride average three times a week. I’ve had zero issues with mine.

Rossignol bikes just started selling modern geometry bikes of all kinds consumer direct this spring. Loving my mid price range $5,800 (free shipping at the moment) Shimano EP8, good performance level Rock Shox suspension. Deore 12 speed. It’s a great value.

I already subscribe but they are all purpose mtb stuff. I'm talking about a dedicated e-bike channel.

I have a question for any of the direct to consumer brand owners. What do you do about motor or electric issues? That was the only thing that kept me from getting an Intense Tazer and sticking with a Specialized. Right now I feel a little resistance from my motor on occasion and it's good to know I can take it to my local certified dealer. Another bike shop that's closer to me will do anything on my bike except anything to do with the motor/battery/electrics because they aren't a Specialized dealer.

Shameless flex:

Consider the elevation and type of terrain you ride and how you want to ride. I was full power but they are a little heavier to throw around, have converted to SL and found my happy place. Elevation here isn't too much though.

The e-bike smile is a real thing, as is the hype they generate.

Id also highly recommend considering the new Trek Fuel EX-E.

Good luck.

I Have 3 e bikes a 22, Santa cruz Heckler, a 22 levo sl comp, and a 22 Kenevo comp fattie, I bought the 2 Specialized in Az. to ride with my Grand kids with the son in law and the santa cruz in MA. My wife hasn't figured out how deep into it we are but ! I think for the money the levo is my favorite the mission control app works great and add's a lot to the overall experience, the Kenevo really Rails the downhills and stays planted
we ride in the White Tank areas of AZ trails everywhere in MA it's all north central you ccan go in the woods hear and ride all day on some knarly trails.
I'm 4 week's out of a full knee replacement and just got back in the saddle with 3 rides over the last week it's sore as hell but keeps getting better

Oh wow I assumed that was like the $5500 one. For the same money you can get a Tazer MX pro with carbon frame and FAR better spec.

All MTB's use similar components and this is really what affect the price of the bike. In order of highest to lowest. (Suspension, Chain/Drive, Brakes, Wheels) YT and few other sell direct to customer which saves you money.

Youtube the ebike reviews and also look at Pinkbike reviews pretty spot on. My advise is start mid level $5-6k on a eBike MTB. Make sure you like an ebike first. I always recommend rent/demo a couple before you buy! There is 2 categories you will want to focus on. Trail eMTB and Enduro eMTB. The difference between the 2 is this simple, Do you enjoy the downhill riding more and like to hit big jumps, go with the Enduro. If you want more all mountain bike, get the trail. Also consider if eBikes are allowed on the trails near you. Believe it or not a lot national forest road/trails do not allow ebikes still. Going mid grade, you can always upgrade the components to meet your mods you desire later.

Commencal's are always sold out and popular so might have to settle with a different brand for a while.

Here's mine.. My named my bike "Iron Maiden"

I’ll likely get one at some point, and ignore the signs, it’s basically lawless here in Oregon anyway.

They would be great for pre-riding off-road race courses.

Lots of "legal" places to ride here. Look for BLM land. Around you, Madras, and Horse Ridge on the way to EFR are emtb friendly. We've ridden a ton near Tumalo and Peterson Ridge in Sisters, but do stay away from Bend now with our e bikes. Tons of assholes ride there anyway so not a major loss. However I have friends that ride a ton all over from Bend local stuff all the way up to Wanoga, and the xc trails around Bachelor and they see tons of e bikes out enjoying the trails.

So funny. Feel free to terrorize any city in the state with illegal protest, but don’t you dare ride your e-mtb in the wilderness. Haha

I got a fantic because I got a really good deal And I don't really know anything about bicycles anyway.. It's been a learning experience I'm actually surprised surprise at how much everything cost I just had to change the whole drive train at 400 miles and a cheap one cost me $210... Tires are as much as dirt bike tires so are tubes. I also had to buy a rear derailer For it.. I suggest investing in some bike tools and a stand and do any maintenance work yourself ..I just ride mine around by my house in the woods so I have it unlocked Being it's a class one it's limited to 20 miles an hour and that's too slow when you're on the road. I've enjoy riding it I figured if I didn't like it I wouldn't lose money on it because I got it so cheap.

They make killer bikes for sure, you just have to spend about 30% more for them. Why don't you just sell the bike? That is a very sought after bike and shouldn't be hard at all to sell. Then you can choose whatever bike you want.

I'm sure not many on this forum give 2 shits about my opinion but I backpack in CO a lot and I've seen that bikes have a huge impact on the trails where they're allowed and e-bikes only makes that impact larger. If you think for even a second you can understand that any mechanical advantage on top of human power will translate to damage on the trail. I'm fine with having bike and e-bike trails vs no bike areas, but keep the bikes where they belong and stay off the hike only trails.
Fair enough, hikers should be able to enjoy their own trails, but it seems like in many cases they poach trails built/maintained by the wheeled community and try to get them kicked off of them, because they don’t want to share. That is not ok.

The mountain bike community typically does way more trail maintenance/repairs and trail building than any other group.. Hikers are welcome to enjoy them too, but remember who put the work in for you to be able to access and enjoy those trails.

Most trail damage is caused by users who don’t think about the erosion they are causing during inclement weather or during spring thaws. Horses are by far the worst on these unmotorized multi use trails. It just takes common sense to prevent these issues but too many people lack it.

Have ya read the thread? I’d much rather have the cash and know it’s worth more than what I’m getting. Problem is it’s been listed quite awhile with absolutely zero bites. Take that back, had a guy offer me $5500 cash, today! Hahahaha

Edit: Market seems to be pretty weak where I’m at.

Sorry I had read the first couple pages a few days ago haha! What part of the country are you in? Id post that thing on the KTM/Husky pages on Facebook and I would think you'd sell it pretty quick. I have two people trying to buy mine for similar money, if you're semi local I'll send em your way!

Oh yeah I've ridden over 1000+ miles just on this specialized kenevo and maybe 500 on other levo/kenevos. Specialized all the way. The husqvarna brand ebikes last i looked were just nothing special china bikes. Specialized is the leader in innovation and quality. I worked in the cycling industry for 6+ years, could get discounts on most brands, rode a few, and it was clear to me specialized was better. But I can't discount that they're all fun. Cheers

How do you like the bike? The local shop has a demo for sale and I am thinking about buying it.
