I really don’t think any combination of American riders will get it done this year. Not due to lack of raw speed by any rider but more from some scatterbrained moves.

Likely the American team will not participate in future europe rounds considering vax mandates and their high likelihood of losing on a European track.

It makes sense that the American team abandon the event. The mxon does not pay the riders, the teams have to front a huge bill for an event that their sponsors don’t care about / reimburse.

The whole mxon event is propped up to the benefit of Euro thug Luongo who treats mx riders like human waste buckets. The “old timers” claim so much sentimental attachment to mxon because of “muh freedom” and “Merica is best.” There’s other places to try and settle that score outside of a corrupt event run by a corrupt organization
I just got back from Italy.....No vax mandates in the EU.....

Maybe "mid-pack" was a little overly negative. Nonetheless, you have a guy riding around consistently out of the top 5 just fast enough to keep his ride with tight-fitting, fruity gear. Then he wants to play himself up as the obvious choice to help champion the american team. Is justin barcia really who you want to represent your country? I would have to say christian craig is a more respectable choice on all fronts.
Craig was 8th at Redbud this year. Barcia was 3rd. Last year Craig 5th, Barcia 8th. 2020 Barcia 3rd and 8th, Craig 7th and 9th. 3 out of the last four races there Barcia beat Craig and his overall average was 5.5 and Craig is 7.25. Not a huge difference but Barcia has been consistently better there. Plus Barcia will probably screw someone over in the race, and it probably won’t be Chase or Eli.

Barcia is the best choice. Lots of experience in both classes. At the event he is going to be navigating 450s nonstop on that 250. All the laptime comparisons to riders in the AMA nationals is not really relevant. US team just needs a good MX2 class score. Or it’s back to square one and the team missed it by that much. Again.

In regards to Barcia:

Either way, he seemed to enjoy being back on the 250F. Also, people I talk to close to the situation say that if he's selected by Team USA, he'll drop down and race the last four Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, as he's not in the title fight in the 450 class. How cool would that be?

The 250 he is riding has white number plate backgrounds. That's something you would have to intentionally do, as they are normally black, right? Was this to fool people (those who can't hear it and tell it's not a 450) to keep it under wraps that the decision is already made?
This stuff tells me he is for sure picked to ride the 250 for the USA but they don't want to announce it yet. I can't see any other reason he'd be spinning hard laps on a 250, much less on a 250 with number 51 and white backgrounds.
Of course I could be wrong, but..
You know the 250 and 450 share the same plastics? It's a 3 minute job to put Barcias plastic on a 250. He wouldn't run 51 in the MXoN anyway.

Hell to the yeah if this is true! Woohoo

If the US can finally get a win at the MXoN again, maybe we’ll get to see some more interesting shake ups like this in the future.

Not only will it be cool to see the US send a 3 man team regardless of which class they normally race at the moment but it would be awesome to see Barcia shake it up in the 250 class here for a few rounds! Boy would it be a bad look if Justin Cooper beats him though. Grinning

I don't know about him being a legend, but racing the last 4 races makes sense if he's selected.

Might be tough for him to beat Cooper. Then you have JMart possibly doing the last 2 rounds.

Regardless, it'll be cool to watch if it happens.

You say that like the Star 250 can’t make passes, lol.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind choosing Barcia over Craig. Craig is fresh off of winning a 250 championship (indoors, but a championship nonetheless), on the bike best equipped to take on the 450’s in terms of power. Barcia hasn’t been full-time 250 since 2012. A whole decade.

And if that’s not enough, Craig is 30 points up on Barcia in the 450 championship right now.

What has Barcia done to deserve the spot over Craig? I don’t get it.
Craig will crack under the pressure .

I love it there is excitement for this event by our riders. Regardless, this will elevate the performance of the Team to where it should be.

Yeah well re: the results from Red Bud this year, they were a bit of a head fuck cause Barcia went 8-3 for third and Craig went 5-6 for eighth so they were a lot closer than the overalls suggest

If the goal is to pick a 450 rider for 250, Barcia is the man imo. I see anyone except a storm that watering bad the track beat team USA this year.

They should just do a shoot out in the 250 class. Unidilla, budds, ironamn. Whoever wants the ride put there hand up. Whoever scores most points gets it. J-coop vs bam vs Craig vs rj

I'm not really a fan of Barcia or Craig being the pick but it seems like that the case. I take Barcia all day long over Craig. He was a way better 250 rider than Craig, it's not even close

Send BamBam, grab a beer & watch him do his thing.

Agreed.
Somebody made the point that the 250 rider is going to get a shitty start, so might as well get someone that can and will make passes quickly and rip through the pack. Who better than Barcia, or Anderson? Sounds like Anderson wouldn’t happen due to Kawi politics anyhow. So, BamBam would be awesome.

Some great debate here
I actually like both Barcia and Craig
It’s just a race
that weve obviously not cared about in the last 8 or 9 years so why get so critical over it now
Personally I feel Barcia would be the better pick because he may “ get up” for this race and if he’s feeling it there will definitely be some fireworks following him around the track

I hope Barcia gets the post. Most of all, I hope he is the reason the US wins. I just want to see heads explode around here.

LOL

I'm a fan of both Craig and Barcia.....I think Barcia would give just a little more.

The BAM-TV episode would be epic.

Barcia got 13th on a 450 at the same track that we are having this year's MXoN.. I don't remember there being an injury like JCoop had at Assen.. remember his hand being jammed into Anderson's bike after the very first moto causing an injury that Cooper rode through to net that finish?

All these people saying Barcia would die for his country, where was that last time we gave him the honors to represent us, on a 450 that he rode every day no doubt?

Cooper also won his qualifying race against all those guys in your screenshot.

AND TOMAC GOT A 7TH... apples to apples.

I don't see a valid point here bud.

1) The don't award the chamberlain based on hot laps 2) You think cooper would finish in the top 7 in the 450 class? 3) The last time he was on the team he destroyed any hope we had within the first 30sec of moto one.

Thanks but I'll pass. Good rider but not one of the 3 best Americans.

You gotta be able to ride through the pack on the 250 at mxdn. That’s the briar patch Bam Bam was born in.

I wholeheartedly believe team UsA will lose regardless of who they select. Its not really the MxON anyway If Russia is not allowed to compete
