Did anyone realize it started today?

I know this event jumped the shark years ago but I'm a little surprised I didn't see any ads for it this year.

I found out about it from a rider's IG story. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't stay around for much longer.

It’s been very stale the last few years. Guys do double backflips and front flips and the crowd couldn’t care less.

Is it still around? Weren’t some of the events held in peoples mega backyards with no spectators besides industry people allowed last year? Fall far from grace when they were getting big stadiums and arenas in the past

Sad to see honestly. Loved it as a kid but seems like everyone has just lost interest in it and freestyle in general for some reason. Maybe the decline of mx video games? Whatever it is it really sucks

Correct. Had nothing to do with popularity but all to do with CoVid restrictions in Ca.

I’ll be at the BMX and Skate events on Friday. I think I know someone competing…

That and they wen't from one x games a year to a bunch of different ones. Giant money grab that kind of oversaturated the event imo.

Yes they were. Through college I built skateparks during the massive boom in is heyday. I also built all the ramps for the Mountain Dew tour a couple years.

It just became too much. It was cool when things were novel and new, then you have the backflip to keep it going. Now it all just kind of seems the same. Same deal with snowboarding. Who cares if you can add an extra 180 or whatever. It used to be about style, now it’s just gymnastics.

Xgames lost its luster when Instagram came out. It used to be the place to see some gnarly insane never before seen stunts. Then more shows popped up, but when Instagram took over, everyone sees it on a regular basis so no one cares about Xgames anymore.

I remember sitting down with all my friends and being on the edge of our seats watching fmx. This was during the early to late 2000's. Travis landing the double backflip was so badass and I could feel the energy in that arena from the TV. Cool times, definitely lost a bit of it's appeal as of lately. I almost went to the X Games in Philly in 2002. Looking back now I regret not going.

100% agree. Instagram de sensitized and normalized lots of things that used to make people say WOW. Now kids just scroll over everything as meh! saw that 5 mins ago, old news.

I knew it was on but don’t wanna buy an app and subscriptions just to watch 3 days of content. The timing of the events are lame too. Some of us have to work during work hours.

I understand all the comments about xgames being dead. But at the same time they are still a long ways ahead of moto and must still be much better viewership. They are being broadcast on prime time, ABC and ESPN.

Even in the 90's it was awesome. I would go to Media Play or Sam Goode to purchase the X-Games soundtrack CD.

Look what dirt squirt posted just above. It’s just like moto, you have to buy an app (ESPN+) just to watch.

Makes a ton of sense honestly. We see all this stuff every single day now, and if someone comes out with something new guess what… we will see it on Instagram tonight. Hard to dedicate hours of our days to watch when we have it at our fingertips as soon as someone does anything new or innovative.. and that’s an if. We’ve all already seen a dirtbike in every angle possible. I think LOL.

To add to this though, how freakin cool was X Games years ago. I mean new skate parks every year, the double back flip, the coliseum, high jump was poppin, mega ramp was insane, etc. I knew who people were because of x games wether it was bmx, skate, etc. even rally was fun as hell to watch. It was definitely a cool era.

That’s just the moto portion. Look at the weekend coverage it’s on prime time, no app required.

I feel like X-Games lost its flare when they started doing a handful of events per year. I still try to watch the skateboard and bmx finals.

It's on prime time because it is their product... ESPN is locomotive dragging this dinosaur back out of the cave every year, because it USE to generate big sponsor dollars...

I'm an eternal optimist and try to go into x games every year with a positive attitude but man... it's just not the same. Tricks are huge but it's just lack luster overall. There's no personality in it any more of sorts and gone are the days of Pastrana charging the course and truly putting on a performance.

For anyone who watched, that crash from Harry Bink could have been deadly if he hadn't pulled that off somehow. That was scary! I'm sure the clip will come out at some point.

I agree with you there. Having one big event per year brought all the hype!
