Real Talk about Ryan Dungey

Edited Date/Time 6/21/2022 3:31pm
I know he used to get shit on in here because Villipoto had his number, or because Tomac or Roczen could show up on some Saturdays with a little more pace, but this comeback is proving that Dungey has something that no other elite rider has ever been able showcase - unending fitness, speed and consistency.

Six years is a long time for any of us, but it is an eternity to be away from the elite level of this sport. This should erase any doubt that the dude is an all-timer.

There was never any doubt that he was/is an all timer.

No one ever said he lacked fitness speed or consistency though

He’s killing it for the circumstance right now clearly. But anyone who thought he wasn’t an all time great is just a hater. He’s second in all time 450 MX wins. He has multiple titles in both disciplines at the highest level. There is no picture you can paint that makes him not an all time great.

Seems to be all going to his plans. So impressed. Sniffing the pace and battling with the top of class. It will only get better for him and us. The racing has been great and today Ryan made it even better.

Anyone doubting he was an all timer . Before this come back ,is an idiot . Plus the idea Villo just had his number is stupid . They were very close . Had Roger and him stayed Suzuki for 2011 and on for a few years . Villo would of had his hand s really full . That KTM was really bad . They just had great riders on it to make it look better than it was .

I think the racing in the first 450 moto was so good because Dungey was pushing the pace of the 3,4,5 place riders from 6th. He definitely inspired Roczen to keep pushing.

The guy is great for the sport, and it’s absolutely amazing to see what he’s doing out there. Millville should be fun.

He was all teeth after the race! You just know he loves what he is doing, loves the challenge and is meant to be doing this. So happy for the guy

Pure fantasy because of absolutely how rare of an ability Dungey is showcasing to miss so much time and come back just about 90-95% of his old self within the first four rounds, but I kinda hope its got RV thinking. Doubt it, but fun to imagine.

He surprised me a little bit today. He was showing some serious hunger out there at times. Pretty darn cool.

I just don't think this one would be close. The only two post-retirement rides I remember from RV were when he got beat by Josh Varize in a 125 race, and a lackluster performance at the MEC.

RV is an all-time badass, but he let himself go in retirement in a way that Dungey apparently has not. I can't blame him, but it just makes what RD is doing all the more impressive.

What he is doing is really unprecedented.

Cairoli was impressive, but he won a handful of MXGP motos last year and probably was close to finishing on the podium in nearly half of his motos. He’s done relatively well so far in the Nationals, but it’s impossible to compare that to Dungey’s 5 year retirement and return.

Always was a Dungey fan... Much of what we had seen so far was what I expected. Today? He outperformed for sure. I hope he stays battling for moto podiums!!!

Yup

And his personal conduct/the way he conducts himself on the track and in public is good for the upcoming kids to see.

In this new revision, RD5 v3.0, I’m absolutely STOKED on the “balls” he’s shown. Especially these last 2 weeks! The dude is hanging it OUT!

I’ve seen more “Oh, hellllllll NO!” out of the “Happy Dude From Minnesota” than I think I’ve -EVER- seen before. Hell, I f he’d had this much fight in him back in his 250 days?
1. We’d probably not even know who the hell “J-Law” is.
2. There would be fewer rental cars destroyed.
3. Josh Hill woulda had a “more serious” career.
4. Suzuki would have more 250 titles.
5. RD5 would probably have an H&H tattoo.
6. KTM would’ve had to pay him AND Roger more $.
7. Marvin would t have had to “Let Ryan Win”.
8. Fox woulda sold even MORE gear.
9. Nike woulda made and SOLD those bad-ass Boots!
10. RV woulda had a harder time.

All that aside, I’m just glad he’s back & having fun.

Yeah, huge amount of respect for the guy. I’m bet he’s loving it, and that’s so cool. As they joke about on Pulp, he loves getting roosted and hammering down for 2 motos in the heat. It’s just cool to watch.

Ive always been a big fan of the Dunge. I was pretty bummed when he retired because I really enjoyed watching him race. When I heard he was coming out of retirement I couldn’t believe it. It’s definitely hyped me up more for this outdoor season. Seeing how aggressive & fast he was today was so awesome to watch. I was hoping we’d see him battling up front w/ the fast guys. I think this was a big boost of confidence for him & he’s only going to get better. I was hoping he’d get better when they came east & so far it looks like it!

The thought hasn't entered RV's mind, I'm certain

AND KTM for that matter. The guy may have won another title if that had happened.
