yeah I'll go until I can't. Oldest guy I've seen was probably mid 70s. He wasn't going fast but he was out there. I've told my boy I hope I croak setting in a lawn chair at the track watching grandkids ride would be even better if I am out there with them.

I always said I'm going to race until I'm 60, then reconsider. That's only a couple months away, so I'll push that back to 70, then reconsider.
I'm getting faster, so are my friends, so my best days on a bike are in front of me.

I'm 52 as well. I have to say I'm feeling my age more and more. Falls that I would jump right up from as a kid might now take me out of action for 2 weeks (LOL). I'll go as long as the body can.

Plan to do at least one +50 class race this year since I’m now eligible for that class. Probably go like all races I go to, look forward to it the week leading up to it. Have fun prepping the night before. Dread getting up early in the morning race day. Have fun at practice and first moto. Sit around waiting for second moto telling everyone I’m not doing this again, wasting an entire day waiting for my second moto…

Almost 58 and I still have a good time! I always think that as we get older, just lining up is a WIN! Smile

54 and still going strong but some days everything hurts😂….. no plans on stopping…. Nothing can replace this awesome sport….I really think the key is avoid injuries and not stopping for any great length of time.

I don’t think that far ahead. I do prepare 2-3 season of the year in advance. I turned 55 in Nov. July - sept I plan on riding a lot and racing wi. Millville, red Bud, 3 rnds of Racer X vet series , fair races teus, Thur, Friday’s. Get some cash from the fair races. The only races that hv 55 is Millville and racer X. The other races 50+, 125 class and maybe 40 plus. If I,m like the track and I,m feeling it race 250 c and sweep the motos for fun.

Vet racers measure their lives in 5 or 10 year increments: when you are in year 0 (as in +30, +40,etc.) you're supposed to be kicking butt, and when you are in year 9 its the other way around. Moving up every 5 or 10 years is a great thing, as it makes us want to hang around for the next kick at the can.

Thank goodness for the new 5 year splits, though, as I did well when I turned 60 and a mere four years later I'm happy not to be last. Now I'm looking forward to +65 this year!

And it really is all about this:

I hv a pal that’s 58 or 59 he,s in crazy good shape. Insane amount of cardio and other training at the y. The last few yrs he rides a 450 wo on sand tracks. He has his 01 mint cr250 yet. He had a couple really bad crashes last yr on his 21 450. I told him for yrs get a 125, he order a new yz125. He won a pro am race at Millville along time ago and alot of sand races. He rides a lot but doesn’t race any more.

I'm 65 and plan on riding mx until I can't. I still love to run and mtb as well. My grandfather always said, "just stay moving". He lived a long active life and walked everyday into his 90's. Better to wear out than to rust out.

Been around it all my life but started late and plan to finish later. 53 now and see no light at the end of the tunnel. Races are few a far between but I do mange to ride about once a week.

See you there…

Love to see the old guys but pretty damn stoked to see the sheer amount of 50 year olds chiming in.

God willing, I plan to give up racing the weekend after my 100th birthday and then I’ll find something else to do.

62 here. Started racing moto @ 13, stopped @ 19 and restarted @ 36. Going to keep going till I can't. Usually race some of the Racer X Vet Series 5 race series in Midwest. Won +55 A by 1 point "Back in the Day" LOL. Lots of riders in most classes. There are quite a few dedicated old bastards that still race most weekends. Good thing the vet classes give a new lease on life with 5 year vet class increments. .

Can still do most the jumps on most tracks, the 450 4 strokes' have made it so much easier. Most of my past riding buddies gave it up, ride with my son and grandkids a lot which is best part of riding for me. Keeps you young as long as you don't get injured. Feels like if I give it up I'm a quitter, I don't like quitters.

54 here, and not giving it away anytime soon. The Vets class at our club is +35, not fun racing against kids 20 years younger. Still enjoying the racing with mates though.

I worked dec to April straight. In may I took aprox 5 weeks off, my upper body was so pumped up from work. Got my 2 covid shots. I was at my highest wt 182 never been above 172. My legs where skinny and the knees hurt. I probably added 4 lbs of muscle to my legs, just rested my upper body. But did a lot of sit-ups. Without dieting eating spaghetti and lasagna. I got down to 164. Same jump rope stuff doubles and speed jumping as 30 yrs earlier. I did the experiment to see if I could get in good riding shape. I didn’t want to quit working and race if I didn’t hv a body capable of doing it. It would b a waste of money and time. So yeah you can do it.

Interesting read. I'm 58. Old injuries are starting to really make themselves known. I work hard on fitness and I have good genetics so that helps. I think I have 2 more years of racing, then I will stop with gate drops and become purely a practice queen.

Outside of OTHG and OTMX there are very few vet-friendly local events. I'm really not interested in gating with the 40+ Int/expert class when I'm 20 years older than some of them. Their mindset is different than mine. Not to mention practices for "Vet" often start with 30 or 35 year olds. I got kids that old!

I'm not gonna get faster. I'm not gonna start hucking big triples. I don't want to be in the way, and I sure as hell don't want to get landed on. Hoping to ride till at least 70.

After hitting my 50s... things are a lot different.... Now I see why you don't see many old dudes racing... this thread got me thinking... I'll ride for as long as I can... but as far as racing... I just can't see me doing it much longer.... I've been there and done that.... and at this age, a "big" crash is much worse than 30 yrs ago....

I remember weekly racing in my 20s... I went to the same track a lot.. and there were very few "vet" riders... but I def remember this one +40 guy... dude was crazy fast.... always rode Husky..... which was odd at the time... and I remember looking at him and thinking "OMG that dude is old"... he just looked old to me... and he was only in his 40s...

And now I'm in my 50s... LOL... there is a first time, and a last time, for everything.... might just do my "last race" this summer... then practice track hero to the end......

37 now... Will go as long as my body can put up with it. I'll probably need to get something done with both my knees and my left hip at some point as they are all a slight inconvenience to my every day life already.

Man, y'all give vintage racing a try if you haven't yet. I practice on modern bike/track but only race vintage these days. Love racing the old iron and different vibe on race day....way more laid back
