...and what Rupert said.
Murph, you're going to get a high like no other the first time you ride after CT surgery and can actually feel your hands the whole time. I suffered through it for 10+ years not knowing how severe it was. Came back last year, doing the same things you're currently doing, and I have found so much enjoyment in racing these days. I can't say the thrill is quite the same at the local level, but hitting bucket list races is what keeps my head glued to the game.. I ride local stuff now just for seat time.. last year's bucket list race was Daytona. I had such a blast there that I'm going again next month! Same with red bud vet fest. I'm only racing the races I have fun at, or my daughter (age 6) wants to race.

That said, middle age friendly tracks would be more attractive as well. Natural terrain is a lot more appealing than a wannabe SX jumpfest.
Pit Row
Unfortunately even at my fittest in my mid-30’s I couldn’t prevent the pain from herniated discs while riding.
Doctor told me “can’t put the toothpaste back in the the tube”. I was a heavy equipment mechanic at the time and it was impacting my work. I avoided surgery by doing PT and switching to mtn bike racing, then switching careers. Still never gonna be 100%
I watched the Matt Hoffman 30 for 30 episode, got stoked and bought a KTM fall ‘20 thinking I could ease my way into riding…Back did not agree, sold bike after two rides.
Give up weed.
