I agree, if 'stroker' is used to mean an engine that has been lengthened in stroke.

I was referring to those who say 'thumper' for four-stroke, and 'stroker' for two-stroke. Both two- and four-strokes have strokes, so it makes no sense to me in that setting.
It seems pedantry hasnt been killed off by the Pandemic

But yes, i agree LOL.

Good word, Phil.
Maybe if anything, people have become more pedantic. Wink

Not sure how old you are but I started riding in 1969, and we've been calling good dirt "chocolate cake" since I can remember.

Maybe it's overused, but if you've ever ridden in west Texas "cake" is a treat.

Agree totally with the table deal.

Not exclusive to dert-berks, but "full throttle" literally means "no fuel/air input".

The first I.C.E.s ran wide open until someone developed the "throttle" which if you look at the definition, it means to restrict air.

So if you're "full throttle", I am not impressed.

When people verbally say “BRAAAAAP. BRAAP!” Like dude it was funny 10 years ago but it’s old now, plus you aren’t 12 years old.

For some reason the word “trick” bothers me. Check out my TRICK levers bro! Bruh you just bought them off of motosport, Im not calling those trick. The only people saying trick and that get a pass are people 40+ years old.

Factory can be annoying at times

I worked in the industry so I should be able to think of some better ones soon Grinning

Huge hats and tucked in ears is the most frustrating thing to me. Instantly makes the riders look so silly.

Lately I’ve been listening to all the videos and podcasts, and constantly they keep referring to “last year”.

Do they even realise they are still in the same year as they raced supercross and motocross?

Only because I’ve not seen any rear forks lately.
My son does this but with the handlebars it drives me nuts.

You see that dad he went over the front bars.

You mean the F#*king Handle Bars, can you see any Handle bars on the rear of the bike.

Calling an "engine a motor".

An engine is always a motor. But a motor is not always an engine.

Thought of a few sayings/comments that are often said that I find annoying haha.

1) When somebody says they "got a 3rd place holeshot".... No, no you didn't. You actually did NOT get the holeshot but rather got a 3rd place start hahahaha

2) Podum interviews by all the top riders when they start the sentence with "I can't thank Sponsor X, Y, and Z" BUT never finish that sentence with "enough". I get it if they wanted to say "I can't thank Bell Helmets enough" but it ends up actually being "I can thank Bell Helmets....", leaving it open ended and actually sounding/meaning worse hahaha

Anyone else have some good ones?
Using the word “obviously” to describe things that aren’t so obvious. I’ve heard it overused in a lot of moto interviews

"This is the most anticipated Supercross season of all time"

"Rider x is a legitimate title contender this season" *meanwhile rider x is a guy who won a 250 regional championship a decade ago and averages 3 podiums per season, yes this is a shot at Justin Barcia and Malcolm Stewart superfans*

"Ken Roczen deserves a title this year" ...nobody deserves a title, just because they have overcome adversity does not mean they should get a title automatically. If that was the case, Trey Canard would be the GOAT

The first I.C.E.s ran wide open until someone developed the "throttle" which if you look at the definition, it means to restrict air.

So if you're "full throttle", I am not impressed.

Am I missing something?, a drill is a term for the device that rotates the drill bit, which cuts the hole.

With you on that one. Ask for a drill in 95% of workshops and we all know what we'll be handed...

I've heard machinists make this argument before, a few times actually, but it is the epitome of needless 'semantics police' awkwardness haha, no offence seemefirst

No, the powered device is a "drill motor", the thing that makes the hole is a "drill".

No worries.
You are right about how often the 2 are misused.

Hell, even manufacturers advertise them wrong.

But yeah, being a toolmaker for so long does that to some of us.

Calling an "engine a motor".

This.

When Im talking shop with someone and they reference the engine as a motor I take what they say with a grain of salt.
For all the haters, Google images "motor"

Motor oil, that bike has a lot of motor, motor sports, whatta ya got for a motor in that thing? He motored right by me, motor boating. I think its just something that should be expected as meaning an ICE or an electric motor these days.
