Just listening to the archive show and I have to say the discussion was downright hilarious. To me the biggest failure sounds like the flagging. I mean the other disorganization is not ideal, but for a big event with a LOT of riders the flagging definitely needs to be on point.

Agree, they need to add at least two more official days to the event thurs-sunday.

Triple gates are not fun.

It seems like if they did that and hired a few more flaggers that a ton of the “shit show” would be fixed.

As fun (and easy) as it is to pile on GH it sure seems like most attendees left with a smile regardless of a few issues.

Every big event has problems but yes it’s important to learn and knowing Lori she will. I know with Europe still closed it was way bigger than expected.
But negative critics don’t help but that’s part of anything successful now a days.
Riders had a good time but some negatives clouded the event. But accusing Lori of not caring is just wrong. I know what her mental framework was after the rider passing. Her questions about track layout and being Vet friendly the weekend before and changes she made against what Jody had planned for even up till Friday night. I known and worked with Lori for almost 30 years and she cares and be thankful she’s there. She will improve it and make it as safe as she can for everyone but it’s a dangerous sport.

Here is the thing GH should understand. If riders spend thousands of dollars to travel and spend a week in Cali getting ready for the World Vets and it is an unorganized shit show I would be pissed. It is a bucket list item for me, but for the money I am going to spend to get there, to race, and get home, it better be a well oiled machine. For me it would be a 7200 km round trip and all in I'm probably investing 4k to race that event, and taking 7-10 days away from work and family. It would be reasonable to expect the organization is top notch in every way. From what I read, this isn't the case. I have other bucket list items in the queue if that be the case. It's not like this is the first rodeo for GH and this event. At this point there should be no excuses and no fuck ups.

Yeah, you should probably just skip this race if those are your expectations. If you want to show up and go with the flow you’ll probably have a great time, if not, it’ll probably be a long weekend for you.

I'm sure they'll miss you when 900+ riders show up again and only 890 have a blast.

So there shouldn't be a level of professionalism with the "Vet World Championships?" Okay. People fly in from many parts of the world to race this thing and they should expect what then? A local Motocross Action REM race?

It's amazing that Glen Helen can get 900 people to attend this race and half that to attend a MXGP Grinning

You have a unrealistic vision in your head of what you think it should be and it will never live up to your expectations. I guarantee you that 99% of the people in these threads bitching about it were not even there just like you were not there, they just want something to bitch about, its pretty much the same cast of characters who come on here and complain about everything, flaggers, race order, dust, Lappers etc etc. Big races and big turn outs and you get problems, nothing will ever be like you want it.

I raced the the first one, "I think it was the first one " that was held at Perris and I remember there being so many riders people were parking out on the highway.
It was well organized, the only thing I remember was that the motos were short.
If I'm doing the math right and the GH promoters are pulling down 100k they could take a little of the money and add a day or two to the schedule. Or cap the entries to what the can handle for a single day and make sure it's staffed properly.
Really, they need 4 or 5 days to push 1000 riders through practice and racing, that's if you want to give the riders their monies worth, even if they had to up the entry fee a few more dollars to do that, it'd be worth it.
For most vets a 10 to15 Min moto is good.
Have the pros and intm practice day one, nov beg day two, pro intm race day three, nov beg race day four.
Day five is put on hold in the event they had to extend into another day to finish up all the racing.
Most riders would gladly pay a little more for a well run race with two 15min motos, than less money for a shit show with really short motos.

^ this is the attitude that creates a shit show

It happens to be 900 average vets that are the ones that pay for the show. Sure the few locals that live down the road are ok if their race day gets ruined by a unorganized / understaffed facility/ promoter. Turns into a ….joke.
If the race gets a reputation of being a joke why would someone train, practice, take time away, travel and spend the money to arrive and not have a legit race? And then be belittled and humiliated by someone defending their mistakes.

The thing that sucks is the guy from Dubya Wheels sounded pretty bummed out on the phone about how the race was run and it has his name on it. He seems like a good dude when he is on the show.

Man, this race sounds like an organizational disaster! It makes for hilarious content/discussion but I’m just curious how this even happens..

6 flaggers for the entire track, one of them caught sleeping, another on the wrong side of the fence and another plying on their phone all day.

No riders meeting

No referee

People racing without numbers

People skipping the starting gate entirely

Different race order and laps than advertised

No tech inspection or Rider ID’s / credentials checked

Clusterfuck staging and organization

The list goes on and on. Never change GH… “World Championship” Grinning
Racing schedule and practice schedule were posted online

Referee was rem sat MX Frank

Transponders were used, I did not see any bikes without numbers, but I may have missed
People do cheat

They added a race after 30 pro was red flagged for 2nd motos
They had to cut sown laps or I would have been racing in the dark

Tech inspection? Really... I checked in and showed my drivers license

Staging well coulda been a little better, they’re we’re friends prepping and saving start gates for riders BEFORE they were called out of staging
Practice was out Of control many guys in practice that were not in that group

Organization was pretty good

Thinking they need to make it a longer event
Like practice Thursday start racing Friday qualifying races Saturday make main event (s) Sunday kinda like mammoth does

This was the first year I almost didn’t do it, but because of cost of entry, it’s gone up a lot and to me since I can race or ride here every week, if you came from far away I get it,
The sand bagging is horrific if your an event sponsor, or buddy of certain cliques, you can drop down and race the novice class every year, even when you won it every year prior.
My only real complaint is they completely over watered track for start of second moto,s I expect better. The downhills and uphills were a waterfall and as slippery as a greased cookie sheet.
Now the REM October cross the week was far more worth it, long practices long motos almost perfect track condition YET ROUGH, which I like best, and flaggers spread appropriately for the racers protection.

Refreshing, a first hand account of a person that raced there. I raced the REM program once when I had to go out west for a conference and had a blast! I got to ride the main track and the World Vet race is on my bucket list.

I just hope everyone who went except for a few had a great time. I think GH has heard all the complaints and will address it in a meeting with Dubya but first with the group inhouse as to what they need to improve and will. I know all those making the comments were not there so you just let them go they mean nothing except want people to hear them and that's what this is for.
I know Friday took the wind out of a lot of sails and it hurts the soul to try and go on. I know how much it hurt Lori and not any of you saw it. This race was always to be to celebrate turning 30 and still racing and making it fun. It will be back stronger than ever next year and better they will see to that. Its not about making lots of money if it was the early discounts would never had been made. It was done to let those that can't afford a post entry to get in early and save.
I hope next year is everything I am hoping for. A man can dream can't he?

I wish we had an event like this in the South East. I'm going to try to make Vet Fest 2022 at Redbud but that's still a long haul for me.

One would think that if they have been running this event for 30 years they would have the program dialed in by now????

I wasn't there so you can ignore my input.
